This app is great. Being able to see the equivalent paints makes it so easy to find paint when others aren't available. Two requests- 1. Direct feedback button? I only saw a button to answer survey questions, but not leave direct feedback. 2. Instead of just pinning colors to compare, which can be kind of clumsy, why not just make a comparison tool, where you select color A and color b and put them side by side? I understand the pinning tool does that but it isn't very straight forward. Just a simple selection to compare colors and put them side by side would be very helpful. You could even make it so that you could compare more than just two colors, e.g. you have three colors- the original, one that is 97% equivalent, and another that is 95%, and you want to see what they all look like together. Select colors A, B, and C and see.
I've been using this for at least a year now. It's made it much easier to find the colors I need. Better than spending time looking online or a huge exel file that hasn't been updated in years. There are still issues with matching colors but I think in many cases it's due to the naming of the colors by the manufacturer. You'll have 3 different blues with the same name. Although I haven't used it much the News section keeps me updated on upcoming kits.
It's good, especially to see the available paints from each brand included, but it's missing some ranges (Vallejo's Mecha Color line, or the whole Army Painter brand, for example). And it'd be useful to add more than one checklist, with custom names (eg. owned, borrowed, lent). And the paint equivalences between brands isn't as accurate or complete as it should be.
I don't review a lot of apps, but I must say I've been using this so much ever since i found it. The creator continues adding brands based on surveys, fixing issues quickly and efficiently, and developing new and helpful additions to the app regularly. All that for free? It is ad supported but a small donation takes the ads away as well. This app has become indispensable to me.
App is great for comparing colours. Having the pinned colours is also good to see what colours go with others. Is there any way of adding more scale conversion listing. I work with spacecraft and the scaling is all over the place with all manufacturers. If there was a way to add maybe 6 more options to the scale list that would be great.
Very useful and well made app. I'm not sure if I just haven't found it but it would great if we could sort by color hue. I can only sort by manufacturer code.
I really want to like this app as much as other people have. Unfortunately, I ran into a few things that are issues for me that stopped me from getting started with the app.l paints 1. Testors enamel paints are missing as only the Model Master line is included in the app. 2. The Scalator is only metric. 3. Would be nice to be able to manually add paints to your inventory if they are missing from the app's database. I realize this is ongoing work and applaud the efforts of the developer. But in my case I was unable to really get started with it. Maybe at a future date I can try it again and redo my rating. Thank you developer.
Excellent app for anybody using modelling paints; all the big names (Tamiya, Humbrol, AK etc) are there. The developer has taken a simple idea and continued to expand and refine it, the database must have doubled in size since I first got it. His latest addition of the colour matched is brilliant. There are some mistakes, but I know from experience he rectifies them very quickly. Really, really good. As essential to modellers as glue and sanding sticks. Go on, download it and enjoy.
Unbelievable app. So many different brands and shades cross-referencd. If you have a huge stock of paint but aren't sure you have the color you need or an equivalent in another brand this is invaluable. Very easy to use and constantly updated. The most recent update has added the ability of using your device's camera to make a precise color match. The spp is continuously being improved upon.
Fantastic app, the only feature i can see missing is that any colours added to your inventory should be highlighted/identified in some fashion on the equivelence list. Would be nice to scroll down and see i own a paint at 96% similarity without having to read each paints description and remember if i own it.
Nice app. Non-intrusive ads or pay a buck to make them go away. Paint catalog seems to be growing. Still needs Mission Models Paint to be perfect for me. Lifecolor would be good too. Also, having a print or export option for inventory would be very helpful!
A life saver. My most recent kit doesn't have a list of color codes, and I didn't really want to rely on logic. Thank you so much!
Thanks to author. Almost perfect app for color choose in scale modelling. Please, add more tamiya products to catalog.
I've had this app for a while, and even contributed a small amount for its upkeep. Absolutely love it - very useful in the shop when I find they've run out of a particular colour, and the inventory feature is a real bonus.
Bought premium because it is useful, but... some of the colours seem to be way out, eg RAL7028 or missing, e.g. Tamiya Panel Line Accents. The paint inventory is useful but it would be better if you could also add the amount of paint you have (simple percentage of pot left?), not just whether you have it or not.
Could you add 1:64 to the scale converter. Also the one thing that would make this perfect for me adding italeri, and also adding a "Generic" option in brand selection, where we could add the colors we have of regular acrylic paint (for terrain and such)
I love this app, and would absolutely recommend it to all painters. The only reason I give it 3* is because it doesn't have Reaper MSP/Bones etc in there, and they're a fairly large brand (and my most used). If these get added will gladly update to 5*. Everything else about it is fantastic!
Definitely came in handy recently trying to change the colors from a Tamiya model kit to Vallejo (my preferred brand of paint). Would like to see a few more brands - like P3 for example, maybe also some craft paint brands like Apple Barrel, Craftsmart, etc, as I use those for large set pieces instead of my good hobby paints. Other auxiliary brands of thinners and flow aids like Liquitex would be nice too. I know you can't include everything but just a bit of a wish list.
Got paid version. Good app overall and would suggest the following improvements: 1. Option to add quantity / bottles you have. 2. Free format to add brands and old product line no longer available. Perhaps for your own mix. 3. More brands, eg, Gaia, Windsor and Newton oils and other related products, eg, weathering pencils. Would recommend to those who are serious with the hobby.
This is the only choice for scale modelling and if you support the developer via small chainge (five buck a year for premium) you get rid of adds and opens up other functions such as kit listings etc. So do yourself a favour and get it, you wont be disappointed. I love this app...
I'd like to give this a higher rating based on previous experiences, but the app keeps crashing now after selecting the paint option. ive sent two notifications and received no reply on either.
Very good I use it a lot. Some colour matches are a bit odd but there are a lot of variations in colour matching. On the whole one of my most useful model making apps.
Fantastic app. Love the crossreferencing and the inventory aspects. Makes my life easier as miniature and model painter and hobby store employee. Only downside is it doesn't cover the rest of the Mission Model line from 124 to the 160s.
Great! But I have a suggestion. A good friend of mine has a new paint brand out of the USA called "Scale Colors" it would be great if you could add his product to your app. It's a small family owned business, but headed by a Very prominent hobbyist. I could get you in contact with him. FYI I've used your app from day 1 and love it!
Good app for model colours, so purchased to stop adverts, only to find with latest upgrade I now get adverts again, and cannot stop them reappearing. Problem has now been sorted, app working as it should do.
This app is a real help for me. Most shops were I live (the Netherlands) mainly have Humbrol, Revell, Vallejo and Tamiya and sometimes AK and MIG. My own collection of paints mainly consists of the first four so i'm less inclined to order any tin or bottle of the other brands - for which I then also have to pay shipping costs.. Many paint references in the instruction manuals of plastic model kits I buy are NOT in those four brands but for example in Federal Standard, Testors or Gunze. So being able to find (close) matches with colors i DO have is fantastic. Two negatives: #1 Brands often disagree with each other as to what exact hue, shade, or lightness a specific color is. That is not the fault of HCC. For example, finding correct German WW2 RLM colors can be difficult in a number of cases even with this app. #2 Sometimes HCC makes an error but it's easy to inform him about this and he will correct it.
It would be great if in the color finder with camera, or was possible to write the hex value manually instead. Other than that, the app works fine.
It's an okay app. I mainly use Testors enamel and they do not have that as a selection. They have model masters enamel, but not a single Testors enamel. As well, the suggested colors section you would like added is very specific and does not allow you to type in a suggestion, like Testors enamel. Kind of annoying considering Testors enamel is sold at nearly any hobby shop that sells a range of mediums.
I was just starting a new model kit and wanted to see if I needed to buy any new paints for it and went looking for a conversion chart so I could spend, as I have before, a while checking through all different brands and colours I already had. Google suggested this app, installed it and I couldn't be happier. I've now got inventory of what I already have and an at a glance check for different brand equivalents.
