Wish They kept developing the product. Im surprised they keep the servers spun up. Everything still works with the app and web login. slowly there website it falling part because its not being supported. I still use this almost everyday
Email stopped working soon after getting the discontinue email. Hoping dev sees this and releases the device on particle so we can reprogram them and/or open source the project.
App no longer connects. Can't log in. The api.gethook.io login doesn't work for me. So no google or echo connectivity. Web based web.gethook.io still works. I guess that's something. Looking to finally move on.
Great while it's still functioning, but open source the code so the community can continue to support the hardware ourselves.
it's a shame they stopped maintaining and developing this. could have been huge. glad the API still functions tho 🤗
Copy function of ifttt does not work
Stopped working suddenly
Cannot connect device anymore.
doesnt work. cant create an account
The App does what it is supposed to do and hook works well with my Google home. But there are some things I would change. 1 how the app prioritizes organization. The first thing a user should see is the buttons/switches to turn on and off, not the dashboard . By doing this you make app more useful. Also change the appearance of the on and off buttons (they look dated). Next please consider adding more material design elements to make the app look more consistent with Android. Make a widget to give users easier access to their switches. Last fix screen resolution/size problems. On my s8+ the hamburger menu is messed up because of this.
App needs to be modernized. Seems to be a crappy full screen static webview. It lowers your on screen buttons until you swipe up to unhide them, you can never see what you're typing because the page doesn't adjust when you open the keyboard, and the on screen log popups often cover important elements until they go away. It's also rife with glitches, terrible guidance to the user, and super high contrast 90 degree UI.. To be frank, it reminds me of my first app I wrote in Python that involved a basic UI, that was a decade ago. I was quite excited for this unit, but I don't think I'll be be recommending it to anyone until the app catches up. To be fair, it does work so I didn't go one star.
Struggles to connect and when it does it will not recognise and remote I try. Customer service didn't want to know as they check it remotely and say all is working. Well it isn't so be warned . Have tried it at several friends houses and with lots of different brand remotes and nothing will connect.
Did exactly what it is supposed to do after the purchase of my hook. After a few months, things started to fail and it stopped saving my hook data.
Randomly stops working. The app appears to be abandoned, not expecting to get anything else out of it.
Hook has worked well for about 6 months. Have noticed some delays in response time for turning things on and off lately today for the first time. That being said, the internet seems slower than usual too which might be a mitigating factor. Not sure what that is about but I did just get a new phone so maybe that has something to do with it. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Google Pixel 2 XL is the phone that I use.
It works but sometimes its buggy. It REALLY needs a widget function so that you don't have to keep going into the app and click about three buttons before you turn on and off a light for example. One click on home screen would be so much better, please implement it!
Pretty buggy still, and could use a scheduler to turn things on and off. Also, having issues with 315 mhz devices. Hook is not reading the remotes
App and Hook product no longer work at all. Abandoned by the manufacturer.
Simple and functional.

The app works, but does not make turning on or off devices a quick task. You have to open the app, switch to devices or groups view then find the device or group that you want to perform the action on. The application also hides the navigation bar on phones that use the soft navigation buttons. So you can't quickly toggle a device and then exit the app. You have to swipe up to show the navbar again before you can exit the app.
This makes a good budget solution for home automation. I've only had it one day now, but it was fairly easy to set up and I was pleasantly surprised to find beta Alexa integration. Not all of the light sockets I have respond to the toggle consistently with Alexa, but they don't with the remote either. Now I just need to figure out the IFTTT flow to create timers (there's currently a bug that doesn't properly get a hook on mobile, but does on a computer) and I'll be set.
Don't waste your time. It's obvious whoever built this app never tested it. Connect to photon WiFi and select the name and hit connect and it attempts to connect. For an hour straight if you let it. Doesn't time out. No further setup/options to do anything more advanced or even attempt again without starting over. Gotta send it back. No way I'm wasting $50 on this.
The concept is great, the execution needs work. Perfect if you only use 1 set of Etekcity plugs, or are lucky enough to get different RF signals. I bought 2 sets of plugs, a year apart, that ended up having the same RF signal. I was assured by hook customer service they could get the 2nd set working by adjusting the signal on their end, but after several attempts to fix it, it's still an issue and communication has gone from great to barely getting a response. Ready to send it all back and go another route.
Overall I like the app. Negative reviewers have valid complaints. The lack of timers is a downer and a lack of a widget is crazy. The menus do seem cumbersome and this is compounded by the lack of widgets support. Hopefully these complaints will be resolved by an update. At least that is what I am hoping for.
Worked great! Finally had to change the wifi settings on my hook since I changed my router. Unfortunately it will no longer connect on their end. I can add wifi to the hook but something has to be done on the developer's side to "authenticate" it. It will never allow me to update to the newest firmware from their end, thus it's useless now. I built an RFLink to use for all my 433mhz devices now so that's probably the final solution for some folks. Or just buying a sonoff bridge.
