I love this app, the convenience of having your whole local library all right at your fingertips. I'm reading much more than I used to and than I thought I would. There's only 2 flaws, it's not compatible with my Kindle e-reader which is easier on my eyes and the theme setting does not work. It will always match your device settings even if you set it to a different option. I prefer to read with the light background setting but I like the rest of my phone to be in dark mode. It doesn't let you.
I LOVE Hoopla! The app is great, very user-friendly. **I only have one suggestion—would it be possible to add a feature to the app that lets you know which books/audiobooks we have actually read/completed? The borrow history is nice, but just because something is returned, doesn't mean I actually finished it. Or perhaps instead, a status on the book as to if it was completed, or what percentage is left until complete?** Thank you!
I appreciate the content but this app is extremely frustrating. It will not hold my place. Setting it down and picking up again throws me into an entirely different chapter. Not the next chapter, one that is 3 or 5 or 10 chapters ahead. Or might go back to the beginning. I have closed the app, reopened it, and it has no idea where I was. Recently at the end of each chapter it went to the Table of Contents. For the last 5 chapters of the book.
Great selection. Easy to use. I love the audio books. I love that if I return an item before I'm finished due to lack of time, it returns to where I left off. No guessing where I was and having to re-read. Books and audio books download immediately. And....the best part is...it's totally free, connected to my local library.
I LOVE HOOPLA! What an awesome way to stay active in my library membership. No issues with the app. SO many titles that I actually WANT to read! Not just obscure junk (though, that may be a result of the particular district that I am a member of but its still awesome!) Audio books even play while my screen is off, which is great because I can save battery and not worry about accidental screen touches while I carry my phone around, listening to the book as I accomplish other tasks!
A subscription through my library means I have free access to thousands of audio and ebooks. No holds or wait times. There are sleep timers, book marks and a jump back 15 second function that I like and use regularly. This is my most used app. I wish they had sleeker, or more customizable widgets as it takes up most of a home page and shows books you're already done reading/listening to. I just need a sleek 1x4/5 with control buttons and the book I'm currently listening to.
I can't access titles that I've downloaded without first accessing the internet. So download books to take to the cottage or other area I dont have wifi coverage? No point, they just won't play without my being able to sign in, provide a password, etc. I've flagged this before, but hoopla keeps telling me I have an old version of the app, no matter how many times I've updated it. So silly.
I love this app. That being said, the bookmark function can be awkward to work with on my phone. I'm still not sure of how to skip around chapters. Still for what it is, this app is great and very useful. I've listened to some fantastic audio books that i never would have purchased on the competing app.
Once you find something you're interested in, hoopla is just fine. And actually very convenient. However Their search function needs a boatload of work. It's practically useless. On the other have, after you've rated a few things, it is very good at recommending things you're apt to like.
Excellent resource! The content is not vast at all but I have found titles unavailable elsewhere. Be mindful of the limit per month. I initially borrowed multiple titles without listening to any previews and ended up immediately returning 8 of the 10 titles within moments of opening for the first time, but realized I was not allowed to replace them so had to wait and entire month to check out others. I still have much gratitude and appreciation for Hoopla and it's service to humanity.
Love having access to free audiobooks that are usually not available through my local library. Wish I had a larger variety of books to choose from though. Would love to see my listening history versus just knowing when I returned a book. Would like to see a "my library" button or section to show what books I have in my queue cureently instead of being in the recently borrowed section with all the other books.
Access to audio books without ads or other gimmicks is awesome 5/13/2022. Here is almost a year later and you have shown a great improvement. Book listing layout is more focused. Movement thru menu selections are much easier to do. If you are showing ADs I don't notice them and thats a very good thing. Thank you
Great way to get digital books and especially graphic novels, so much more choice than normal library system. Would have given 5 stars except for that annoying error that stops you borrowing books when the limit for the day had been reached and had to Google it to understand the problem. So just make sure I borrow new books early in the day.
A great media app offered by my local library. Great content and really easy to navigate. It is my go-to application. And check out the music and movies too. A good crossesction of music options. Hoopla continues to be the very best reason to have a library card. I enjoy its content every day.
Love it! I use it for audiobooks and there's so many choices! Easy to use. I wish there were an option to see which books you've already read though. But once you finish sh it book, it automatically recommends the next one in the series, which is super convenient.
Ebooks on the Hoopla app can be read on mobile devices, computers, tablets and laptops but not in the Roku Hoopla app. I have the app downloaded to my Roku tv and have logged into and synced my account. App works great for streaming movies, tv shows and audiobooks but that's it. Would really like to see the option to read ebooks, graphic novels and other printed materials added as an option to the Hoopla Roku app.
My experience with this app has been pretty good. I do wish that there was less of a wait time for the book to load whenever there's a long pause between listening sessions. I'm not sure why it isn't more seamless. It doesn't seem to matter if the book is downloaded or not. My guess is that the user is logged out and the app has to log back in to get back to the book. This is different from my experience with overdrive.
Excellent source for a large volume of books, movies and documentaries at your finger tips, and it's free! I am reading much more and have read several books since joining hoopla. I tell everyone about it. Hoopla allows you to select 5 books a month and I often use up all 5. Hoopla is a fabulous resource, and it has audio books as well Check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Love listening to audio books while doing mindless boring tasks...warning, though...can be addictive! Great selection. But I do suffer from withdrawal when I reach the five book limit before the end of the month. Update: And it just gets better all the time!
I love Hoopla, but hate the 15 title limit (which appears to be my local library's issue, not Hoopla's) especially if I'm watching a series. But otherwise, there are a lot of titles, I love not having to wait for my faves. Sometimes when I pause my book, the app just shuts down, and I have to reboot it.
Bookmarks not working make service unusable for ebooks! And the developers don't know what that means. I guess they don't read books and use bookmarks. The bookmark issue has happened on four different tablets, including Samsung. Also, in Alexandria quartet, all four books are missing the endings, including the audiobooks.
It worked fine before and I could borrow books, movies, music but now when I try and borrow something it says"The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favorites so you can easily access them after midnight." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and that did not help.
Love how easy this app is to use. I often go between my tablet and my phone and with books and audio books it syncs perfectly and I never lose my place. The selection of titles on Hoopla is the best! I should know, as I belong to 6 different libraries and have access through 4 different apps!
I love reading but I find buying books costly and I can always find what I'm looking for. I like searching by author of the same genre gives me the opportunity to find new authors. I've never had a problem with reading books offline. It's great to take when travelling by plane. It's a great app thank you
I appreciate the variety of content that Hoopla offers. Unfortunately, some of that content is of little use to me because of the app's refusal to function properly. I've especially been having trouble with music: the music player will not play an album in the correct order, and I've been unable to download the items I've borrowed (items that clearly say they're available for downloading). I've taken all troubleshooting steps (up to and including deleting and reinstalling the app).
