BROKE AFTER ONE DAY. I got the app to "tap" exactly once for a 2.5 hour ride, and then it did not work again. One bus driver said to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, which did not work. I tried adding more money to the card in case that would reset it, which did not work. Signing in and out doesn't work. It just shows the first ticket over and over with a black scanner code, which apparently happens with certain phones (i have a google pixel) and there is no solution. Fun!!

Buying the virtual card in the app was painless, but nothing happened when I tried to tap (every which way, to the annoyance of the drivers) (hint: it has nothing to do with the QR code displayed in Google Pay). Finally I realized that NFC wasn't enabled in my android phone, which is necessary for the reader to communicate with the app. It works fine now, but it was a stressful experience trying to figure it out. It would be helpful to highlight the NFC requirement in your FAQ page.

Installed and opened easy enough, but when attempting to create/pay for a new virtual hop card and account, it repeatedly told me that the transaction had failed. I eventually was able to use Hop Fastpass' separate website to create/pay for a usable virtual card, but also discovered a day or two later that all those failed transactions had actually gone through without showing up on my account, and I was missing a good bit of money. Two fairly quick phone calls later and I did get refunded.

One star for the one time this app worked on a bus before never working again. Even brought my phone to the Tri-Met office where a helpful employee looked at my settings and confirmed I should be good to go. But except for that first time it simply hasn't worked since, no matter how I tapped it or pressed it to the reader, even with the phone unlocked and app onscreen. Bonus fun: Trying all this with a driver staring silently at you and people waiting to get on. Glad I brought $ just in case.

It's like this app needs a minute to warm up. It never works right away when I board the bus in the morning. Most drivers are nice, see I have a card balance and let me on. Others will have me keep trying and eventually it does take it after a minute or so of readjusting my phone and holding up the bus. It works quickly and on the first try the rest of the day. So what gives?

Needs major improvements, especially needing a billing address section. Have to delete debit card & enter it in again if billing address changes when the rest of the world simply has a billing address section. Also your bank account still gets charged/deducted without loading value to Hop Card if billing address doesn't match. Never had this happen ever before, every other site/app totally declines transaction. Took over a week to get my money back!!!!

I'm just going to buy a bike. Not intuitive at all. Setting up a card required me to call my bank to get it authorized. I've never had an app confirm a call by me call and navigating a bank's options to then have to talk to someone who doesn't know how to authorize it on the app. The last app work perfect. Never had a problem. Why are it this difficult to put a card on an account?

Doesn't work with Google pay. I just get a message that I need Google pay installed (it is). I checked that all the permissions were turned on, still didn't work. I found this out right before boarding a train and was forced to board without fare or be late for work. Trimet replaced a perfectly good app with something that doesn't work at all.

Has maximum balance of $250 and doesnt allow multiple cards. App force's you to use Google Pay which forces you to have a lock on your device. Its convoluted, annoying, and requires multiple applications to function in addition to NFC permissions. The least that could be done for the virtual card is to allow you to expand a pass from the app itself. Rating does not go below 1 star unfortunately. Has $3 fee for virtual card as well which is absurd. They need to bring back the previous app.

It's convenient, but the issues it has are too major to have considered a full roll out of this app. It used to work fine for me, besides not accurately updating my balance. Suddenly, it decided it couldn't load a balance anymore- I refresh the app, restarted my phone, I made sure I had service with and without wifi. I tried to load my payment method as paypal. No luck. I definitely have enough funds, since I had to buy a paper pass at a max stop. Reinstalling hasn't worked either.

The Hop Fastpass app is substantially more complicated and less functional than the old Trimet Tickets app they retired. Requires features with significant security issues to be enabled (NFC), offers no explanation of what they are or how to turn them on for users that aren't aware of what they are, requires GooglePay to use, as well as a $3 "activation fee" to start using. Setup is significantly more involved and confusing than the previous app. It also randomly just stops working, forcing a restart. The previous app didn't require any features to be enabled, and could just take a debit/credit card number straight through it without any 3rd party payment management or fees, and it never crashed on me. From a user perspective, literally everything about this app is notably worse than the Trimet Tickets app they retired to push this. I cannot find a single enhancement over the older app. I won't be using this app, it's just not a suitable replacement, I will be reducing my ridership, driving more and using ticket kiosks instead.

Although the app displays all of your account information from your physical card, you are only able to make a new electronic card rather than a digital copy of the original. So now, if you use different cards to pay for your rides, they don't accumulate toward a month pass and you have to pay an extra $3 to open the account.

It would benefit all riders and Trime to combine best of Tri Tickets app and the Hop FastPass features. Takes multiple attempts to change password successfully. Virtual Hop FastPass not deducting as used. Reader charges bank account $2.00 for each tap when I have an HC pass. A regular update would be nice. Thank you Trimet!

i love the idea of this app for trimet but the developers need to work on a few things. it often takes a VERY long time for my card to a can. and when youre getting on the bus and the driver and all the riders behind you are getting annoyed, its stressful. sometimes i never get it to scan and end up not paying allor needing to pay in cash.

its very useful, and its somewhat useable. its just very clunky, terrible overall. would not recommend. I am very tech savvy but the app is not intuitive, and half of the things in the app don't work properly. for example, you can't shoe your proof of purchase.

This used to be a good app with easy to find and follow schedules. Since the latest update it is absolute garbage. Planning trips and looking for arrival times is MUCH less convenient than it was before the update. Only giving 1 start because less was not an option.

This app was great up until it deleted my debit card info and refuses to "save" ot for future use. Now I cant load it when I need to and its always telling me that my card information is wrong. It never gave me this problem until recently and its very frustrating. Customer Service never answers and Im at the point of calling it quits. The only thing that is saving this app is the fact that I can check my balance. At least I can reload at a store. But if I can give this app no stars I would

Your hop fast pass app is hot garbage. It never works & stresses people out trying to make work. I tried in between the opening and closing of the doors on the max to run out and check a different terminal. We also have to worry about these transit cops that don't always care about wether or not they work dishing out $35-50 tickets. I put $5 into this stupid thing that I won't be able to use. Do better Trimet!

Ter. G. Feb 4, 2022

Terrible. The updated app is awful and doesn't work. I just missed my bus to work bc it gave me wrong times for 2 different bus lines. Plus the interface makes you jump through 100 hoops to get where you want.

I would definitely advise againt autoloading/preloading money to any card, physical or digital. Once they have your money, they will only issue a refund within a specific and narrow set of conditions (see Ashley Patrick's review below). They won't refund if you make a mistake, have extenuating circumstances, change your mind, etc. Stick with cash for the time being. Good luck!

Worked great for the last 4 years, using it every day for work. Suddenly it no longer works. Keeps sending me to google pay whenever I use it to "add a card". If I select the hop card there, it's just a loop. If I input my debit, it says my card is invalid. Yet I can still load money to the pass from the same card. Makes no sense.

So far this app is horrible. The reader on the bus didn't work the first few times I tried to tap, and the drivers had no clue how to help me. Now that I have a new phone, it worked for a bit, but now it says error everytime I try to purchase fare. I have tried multiple cards and it won't load. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Restarted. You name it. I can see why this app has 2 stars. It's unfortunate that Trimet decided to switch to this.

I bought a $25 Hop pass since I didn't have a choice but to move to this app, and for whatever stupid reason no matter how I hold my phone up to the electronic reader it will not register my tickets! I rely on the bus and max to get to work! Its ridiculous and annoying watching everyone else just tap and go and Im stuck trying to figure out why mine isn't be recognized..

Help function is useless and has conflicting answers. Seems to be designed for iPhones, Android an after thought. App transfers payment to Gpay, although it still calls it Google Pay in many places, but I don't see anything in Gpay indicating it is there. Once transferred, when you open the Hop app it automatically opens Gpay. I have no confidence that it will actually work.

Jef. B. May 26, 2022

I can no longer access my account in the app. First it wouldn't accept me adding money and kept giving me "cannot communicate with server". I reset my phone, no luck. Undownloaded the app to re-upload it and now it gives me the same error when trying to sign in.

Ama. S. Aug 26, 2019

I really dislike that you have to use Google pay. I don't have it set up, and don't want to set it up just to use this app, so I guess I'll be buying the physical Hop card, rather than buying tickets as I needed them like I used to. It also wasn't clear to me in the app how the whole Hop pass works, and had to ask my roommate for more details (he rides daily). I liked the Trimet Tickets app much more.

Trimet is light years BEYOND better than what I dealt with in Denver for a year. The hop app syncs well with my hc card I have had absolutely 0 issues. Drivers are always always friendly which makes me feel safe. I don't like traveling alone anymore but I feel the drivers are alert and will help to keep order have an issue come up. I would also like to add google maps pairs well with transit here also. I NEVER have issues with g-maps and makes Portland & surrounding areas easy to get to.
