Such an elegant game. They manage to pack hundreds of hours of fun in a tiny APK. It took me a while to realise that enemies don't shoot through/over their friends. I wish there was a "cancel last action" button to make stupid mistakes less annoying. I paid for premium and I like the achievements, it's motivating to try one more time. I wish the achievements completed before paying were marked. Overall, a great and compact game that everyone should have on their phone.

I downloaded this the first time almost five years ago. It has been one of the first things I download each time I get a new phone since then. It is fun, and challenging, yet simple. This is a modern classic in the vein of chess, with deep strategy offering dedicated players rewards, but simple enough to be a momentary distraction in a moment of down time. An excellent game.

Exactly what a mobile game should be. Challenging, simple to understand with plenty of gameplay depth and a great challenge. It's a shame that there is only one super quest item to recover, the fleece. I'd love it to be more of a permanent dungeon explorer sort of thing with maybe another five or six super items (2 handed [sweeping] sword, healing potion, scroll of fire that clears a level of demons, elven bread for [restore energy] etc) added every 10 levels or so after the 16th. 5* as is.

Inconsistent controls. When you spawn it you don't have the same options as when you normally move which causes some confusion on some levels. No level selection. Fat finger mode helps but still clunky on controls. It would be nice to see a level creation or skill mode where you can customize the setup.

Hoplite is a stone cold classic and a ridiculously good value. I typically can't be bothered to seek out mobile games due to common business models (ad ridden, data harvesting, badly gated f2p) and relative quality versus what I already have on Nintendo handhelds and other platforms. If you enjoy tactical turn based games, this is well worth getting. Demo is fantastic - so good I forgot to buy the full version for ages. Amazed that it has hundreds of challenges on top of the main game. Get it!

Game is lots of strategic fun and has a good difficulty curve, but I purchased the premium version, thinking I would be able to buy more upgrades past level 16, but you can't. You keep all the upgrades you got, plus the fleece, but cannot gain anything further. Didn't really feel worth the $4. I would recommend the free version, but not the paid

This really is the best mobile game I have ever played. Simple yet complex, easy to learn and hard to master, with near-infinite replayability and a real "just-one-more-run" pull. The achievement system is what every game should aspire to: rewarding in-game skill with more tools which can then be used to accomplish more difficult goals. Once you have earned all of the achievements, the endgame is just as fun, trying out builds and seeing how deep you can go. The only missing feature for me is a mode where you can start at depth 16 and choose your upgrades

Very well made. I rarely come across a game like this. Clearly has a strong learning curve. It takes plenty of thought to make progress. A simple game with good music and a wide array of upgrade paths to choose from. Would love to buy premium when I get the chance! One of the things I would complain about is getting hit by archers by a blundered move. I eventually learned to be cautious and stopped getting hit but at first it was very frustrating. Other than that the game is marvelous.

A simple but puzzling game, where you defeat increasingly difficult levels of enemies, each with specific strengths and weaknesses to exploit. Later levels increase the number of enemies, but as you progress, you get to choose special abilities/upgrades to accompany a range of strategies. Completing achievements unlocks even more special abilities as well. If a game like chess is too repetitive for you, despite the billions of game outcomes, then maybe this will feel a bit so too. I'd recommend.

Fantastic. I love rouglikes and this is a great one. Easy to learn and hard to master. It plays like chess with the challenge of planning for the next area. Even love how the paywall is implemented. You can beat the game for free but if you want more roguelike elements, just 3 bucks! Not to mention that there are tons of challenges if you get bored of the normal game mode. Great concept and great design. Excellent job!

The one Android game I keep coming back to. On the surface it seems like a simple roguelike tactical game, but it's more complex than it seems. More of a puzzle game with a tactical coat of paint on it. Definitely hits the sweet spot in making you think about your moves and getting that sweet feeling of eliminating several foes in a row with the correct amount of luck and anticipation. Definitely worth it to buy the full game for the low price that it costs.

I picked up Hoplite about a year ago, and it is still one of my go to mobile games. The design is great, the interface is clean and uncluttered (unlike a lot of mobile games), the pricing model is non-predatory (also unlike a lot of mobile games), and there is enough of a skill ceiling that you can see yourself get noticably better over time. Just want to reiterate that last point, the gameplay is actually skill based. This game rules.

I absolutely love this game, it's challenging as hell and perfect for playing in short spurts or long stints. There are similar games with different art styles, yet this takes the cake, sure there are only 27 levels in the main game, but there's a metric ton of special challenges to keep you coming back. If you like hexbased turn based roguelikes, give this game a try! Well worth asking price! Outstanding job dev!

Great game! It's a game of tactical strategy and wits without stupid time constraints (which I hate specifically), luck-factor and whatnot. If there's ANY game I'd gladly pay for then it's this one. However, after level 17 or so it quickly becomes so exceptionally difficult (only because I'm a tactical dimwit) that, for me, it becomes just too difficult. And I don't like difficulties in my life ^_^

A clever little rogue-like tactical combat game. It's turn-based, not real time, so you can plan out your besr move like a mini puzzle game. The mini RPG power up progression system does two great things: 1) each play through is different, and 2) it makes you feel like a badass warrior, leaping and thrusting and bashing your way through a horde of minions.

A bite-sized but deceptively complex and well-balanced strategy game made specifically with touch control in mind. The look is decidedly bare bones retro, which is fine, though more animations or graphical modes would be nice. And daily challenge modes add longevity but not quite enough to give the game a "daily play" hook. Still, the core experience is so good that you'll return for more strategic fun. One of my few mobile purchases and one I don't regret.

Phenomenal game. While deceptively simple, levels are randomly generated with acceptable terrain and enemy placement, creating an engaging gameplay loop with a reasonable difficulty curve. Though you can only max at floor 15 in the free version (the one this review is based on), the different perks and strategies and highscoreboard keep you returning for more carnage again and again. Would definitely upgrade to premium, had I have the money.

pretty good game. poorly designed maps/mechanic can make it impossible to complete levels. if the last enemy is on an island, it can be impossible to get there and back. best fix would be to fully recharge your energy on killing the last enemy, not on descending to the next level. having to end your game because of a glitch is super annoying.

Like chess. But a lot less complex. Hoplite makes you take strategic decisions on when and where to move your single character by predicting the moves of computer-controlled characters. This, though tricky, is quite easy once you properly and neatly understand the game mechanics. The diversity in AI-characters is small and so the prediction of their moves involves a lot less confusion than other games of this kind. Overall, a good game with a very straight-forward gameplay and innovation.

Its a very fun puzzle / adventure game. I'd have given it 5 stars but it's a little short then you have to upgrade. If the developer is looking for suggestions, maybe once it is complete the player chooses their starting depth. Its not much fun clearing levels 1-10 to get to the challenging levels every time. Plus, I'd love to play the otherway around, hoplite is AI and player controls demons.

Tried it randomly loved it! What a great strategy game. Easy to learn. Impossible to master. Good for 30 seconds or 30 minutes. Challenges in the full version introduce new mechanics so definitely worth the price if you like the free game. I stopped counting at 3000 challenges!

Simply amazing, and the premium version adds all kinds of new powers. However, I keep running into a problem with the game freezing. It responds to my touch, but doesn't follow through. I can't move or use abilities, but the blue path outline will still appear.

Gon. C. Aug 22, 2021

This game is great. One of the best strategy ones out there, only comparable to ENYO (although that one is honestly better). The graphics are quite simplistic, but that is not this game's appeal. The mechanics are what's interesting, and the many options and builds available. And you don't even need to pay to enjoy this game at its fullest. Great choice.

Alb. T. Mar 15, 2022

The game's concept is fun. But, after playing a few levels, you can figure out that picking health increase is OP. Being able to keep on increasing your max health too often breaks the fun, and is the best "no-brainer" option. I hope the devs try to balance this.

Great game almost Chess-like feel (with a single op spartan Hoplite piece) and premium is worth it. I played the free version a lot and could easily beat the quest for the flecce which was still fun and remained adequately challenging if I played fast and lose. I decided to try the paid versions the challenge mode alone was worth it and the new powers are fun usually (makes it harder to predict and secure powers from alter). Recommend.
