Horror in the Darkness Redux

Horror in the Darkness is a short exploration and puzzle solving adventure game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, where players explore and investigate, putting together clues and solve puzzles to uncover the secrets of Wentsire Manor. It is a mobile phone adaption of the classic text-based adventure genre, similar to the point-and-click classics. The game combines a bleak environment and an sense of underlying dread with moments of comedy to keep you entertained.

Fresh back from the horrors of World War 2, our protagonist was working as a private investigator. Not hugely successful, but it paid the bills. Mostly. But when the widow of his old friend needed his help nothing could have prepared him for the bizarre and uncanny events that were about to unfold.

Horror in the Darkness Redux is an extended and remastered version of the critically acclaimed original game. Original content has been adapted to use the latest features of the Horror series, such as manual save and an easily accessible map button. Expanded content improves the main plot arc and makes for a more fulfilling experience.

A solid text based adventure, though a few interactions were on the opaque side. They didn't detract from the overall experience however! I enjoyed myself and, though I don't believe I missed anything, I wound up with a variety of items in my inventory that had, seemingly no use. Whether this was intended to throw me off, if I'm just a bit of a hoarder in games, if I missed stuff, or if there were multiple ways to solve puzzles, I don't know. Either way, good for some entertainment and enjoyment

Awesome game! The music set the perfect tone for the eerieness of the estate and really let you feel like you were there, slowly being overcome by supernatural powers. A short story, but an interesting one, and well worth the $0.99 to support old school developers that still make text-based adventure games (which get no love from modern gamers). My one complaint was that the use for the fertilizer was sort of counterintuitive. Only part where I used a hint.

Fun little adventure very reminiscent of the text style computer games from years ago. A bit short, but very Lovecraftian flavour and interesting puzzles. Controls were ok and worked fairly intuitively with the puzzles. The background music matched the tone of the story. The only issue I had was the auto save - didn't seem to work, but I just did a manual save when the auto save kicked in. No problem. I liked the mapping function, I wasn't expecting that, very helpful. Good effort by developer.

I really enjoyed this choose your own adventure puzzle! There were two places I got stuck, because I pushed instead of pulled. A little more clarity in the descriptions would have helped there. I wish it had been a wee bit longer, too. Aside from those minor quibbles, I loved the mood, the music and the story.

Love playing text advs. This one's a real blast from the past, takes me back to the day's playing a game with book, pencil, paper the story is very good and the map is brilliant will be getting the other three books in the series. The use of the objects is not hard to work out . Really is in the style of Lovecraft dark and foreboding. Keep them coming please.

I played this game for the first time 2 years back and today I purchased the upgraded version, best decision ever. It was the same plot and same story, but it changed up the puzzles a bit and made the game harder to beat which was just what I needed. These games will always be some of my favourites. They'll never get old. Thank you for such amazing games!!!

The controls are simple and the game itself is elegant despite the incredible simplicity of the format. One star deducted because the hints weren't as helpful as I needed them to be and the difficulty in knowing what can and can't be interacted with. However it is worth playing and I can't wait to try the other games in the series.

The immersion is great! Great plot kept me intrigued all the way through. I love simplistic old school games like this. Also really like how there's a map so I don't get lost 10/10 😊 Also just realised it's made by a New Zealand company! I'm a game developer in New Zealand, so that's very cool 👌🏻

It still felt more or less the same as the original but the extended map is good. The "guardian" was genuinely creepy. Still odd how I had a few items remaining and none were used for something.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game, but there are some issues with the redux version of the game. I'm sure Redux is solvable, but I'm not sure how. The original is simpler and available in this version. Either way, it's an interesting story that doesn't end with the end of this game.

It was very well made, it had puzzles that weren't too hard, but not too easy. The game gave a good atmosphere and the soundtrack was amazing! The Game wasn't too short but not too long either. I would definitely recommend this to my friends. Unfortunately I can't upgrade, but if I could, I most certainly would.

Well done puzzle text adventure with suitably eerie music and Lovecraftian vibes. The writing provides atmosphere and practical description, but perhaps the emptier rooms and areas can contain more story-related clues for immersion. Gameplay needs to be longer - it feels incomplete! I finished it in one sitting. Will purchase premium to support development.

Straightforward and great for beginners to get into the genre. It would be nice to get more to it though. It's too short. I finished the game in less than a hour. Additionally, would be great to not have to do the maze again and if it had an option to navigate up and down on the world map.

Just finished the game, enjoyed it immensely. Like stepping back in time to the day's of text adventures played with pencil and paper, makes a real change to play. Looking forward to the next installment innsport. A well deserved 5 stars

I enjoyed this game very much. The puzzles were rewarding and fun, and the atmosphere was perfect for the story it tells. Part of why the atmosphere works so well is the excellent song that sets the mood for the entire game. It never got old because it fit so well. If I could I would buy that song and play it while I run sessions of Call of Cthulhu. I am really looking forward to playing the rest of this series.

Amazing! Could be a bit janky at points, but there's no ads and the text leaves alot to imagination. I got through fairly easily with some frustration, but I do like the hint system. Great game, thank you developers!

The game ended very abruptly, which made the story a bit unsatisfying. But I enjoyed playing it. :) I appreciated that there were no ads and I purchased the upgrade to support the author and use quick travel.

I give five stars, it is boring at the start but i kept solving puzzles in the game and it made me truly interested and wanting for more. To be honest, this was only a bit scary and it didn't even make me scared because i was thinking myself as a detective throughout the game. I expect more from the devs and i want to play more of these :)

Love these games! its so hard to find decent android games but this whole series is great. It's really well plotted and the puzzles are challenging but not so hard that you can't progress. I really like the descriptions of everything

I don't often rate apps or games but this one was too fun not to. If you're a fan of text based games, you'll love this. The story is great and the descriptions really make you feel like you're there. And some fun little Easter eggs to find along the way. Definitely recommend.

Fun little text adventure. Some issues common to the genre: why did that item disappear, why can't I use this etc. The one specific issue I will call out: the forest map disappeared after I read it. Write the directions down!

This is a fairly standard text-adventure/interactive-fiction game, which is why I like it. The puzzles are not too hard (which is good) and the interface has been updated to work well on a mobile device.
