The new update has reduced what was a great app to rubbish! You can't favourite places anymore or check your favourites You can't actually open the reviews and you can see about 3. So you can't read about the hostel You can't look on the map properly and see where the hostel is in comparison to everything When you do multiple searches you have to enter the dates, people staying all over again which is so faffy You can't also filter the search for female dorms or ratings Disappointing
It's a good app to search hostels (probably the best). But payment is not secured when booked through this website. Your payment won't be refunded if the hostel cancels the booking and it is possible. Customer service is really bad. They keep on repeating the same words (terms and conditions).
New update got rid of the saved hostels feature, and got rid of my huge list of saved hostels without warning! Please bring this back, I want access to my saved hostels!!!
After using this app for 3 months out of my 6 month trip it's such a Shame for it to just suddenly stop working. Every time I go to confirm payment it says opss an error please try again and it has been like this for 2 weeks new with no way of fixing it as the customer care don't seem to even reply. My two other friends I'm travelling with have the exact same problem. Extremely frustrating!
!!WARNING!! Hostelworld charges you a deposit to book but makes no reservation at the property. This happened to me twice a few years ago so I stopped using the app. I figured I'd give them another chance, surely things have changed after 4 years but no, exactly the same - I book accommodation, arrive and the hostel tells me that no booking was made by Hostelworld and I've lost the deposit I paid. Of course I've contacted customer support and again received absolutely no response.
Very poor customer support. Can't reach them over chat or call. Only email which takes forever to get a response. AirBnb is much better than this as far as customer support is concerned. Not recommended at all.
Good app to navigate hostels while travelling but disallows me to pay in my local currency (INR). Payment options always come in Euros/Dollar/Pound sterling. There should be scope to compare hostels and displayed on the screen across parameters unlike the filter option which just provides a list display.
The app needs to update it's database on which hostel is still actively operating post Covid19 and also provide a feature where we could make complete payment (for our peace of mind) instead of just a deposit because I experienced a last minute hostel cancellation and refund when I was on the way to the hostel which was unfortunately closed down. But overall the app is user friendly.
Glitches too often. When I have perfect 4g, perfect WiFi it glitches and I have to restart the app. Mainly when I'm trying to open images specifically about a type of room
Wished it worked better. Very nice way to find good hostels but avoid booking using the app. You won't get refunded for cancelled booking and they charged me for a booking without giving me any confirmation mail. Call, mail or book at the hostel.
Whats happened to app, since update cant search any destinations.
Very useful app to book hostels on the go. Clear user interface and easy booking procedure. I didn't encounter any problem thus far. Not all feature are enabled, but this also depends on each individual hostel I suppose. The app becomes better with more hostels participating (knowing the prerequisites for a hostel to be included in the app would also be interesting).
This app has been an amazingly helpful experience ever since i first downloaded it on my phone years ago and started traveling. I remember even now how surprised i was that there was such hostel culture available and so easy to just book somewhere far away and get confirmation that you have a place to stay the night. Though now I'm experiencing a bug with reviews, it's not loading the "to be reviewed" it's just loading it but not successful. Another is "no past trips" what do you mean?? 😳
Easy to navigate. Find new places to explore by surfing hostels on this app. I did and I'm excited to go. I found several destinations I would not have considered before based on the information available on this app.
The app has two turn-offs for me: you see the price for a bed, but not if it's in a 4, 8 or 10 beds dormitory. Quite important detail. And the currecy of the prices depends on the language that you've selected for your OS. Not in the currecy of the country in which you are travelling. A good thing for people on the road, but not great for locals or for plannig trips.
Hostelworld has no way to reach customer service for issues! My reservation was messed up and I reached out via email and phone. No response to email in 4 days and the phone line simply says they have an increased # of inquiries and to go online, and then hangs up on you. Do not book through this site
This app is a must-have for any traveller. It is super easy to use and is the best app for accommodation on a budget. They also have deals and a translation service but I have not used those yet. This is not the app to use if you want hotels however, as there are not many hotels listed. The only weird thing is that you cannot change the list order when searching but it does a good job sorting for you. Great app.
The app itself is OK, although I regularly struggle to successfully book places. It just shows the processing page and then seems to time out. I also get very annoyed when I get app notifications for staying in places or cities when I dont book. Particularly given that I often wanted to book, but was unable to. So the fact that I cant use it, and then get pestered for not using it results in it getting 1 star.
Great app! I used it all the time when I'm backpacking and never had an issue. I can't even imagine how I travelled without before. So far I think it was only in one small village where they didn't have accommodations listed. The app is easy to use and navigate. Support is super helpful if something comes up.
I like the app a lot except for the search feature. I want to be able to search an entire state/region rather than only a specific city. I would also LOVE to have a rating system for if a place is a party hostel or not. It's challenging to differentiate from ratings alone. Also it would be nice to know maximum occupancy of a hostel. If a place can hold 600 guests I'd rather not stay there.
this website and app is an excellent resource for searching and booking specifically for hostels. I only have two major complaints. 1. there is no option to pay for the entire booking, they only allow you to pay partial and pay the rest when you get to the hostel. 2. they dont display the full amount of the hostel on the confirmation page they only show the separated amount that you paid and what you still owed making it more difficult to divide the cost between other people you are travelling wi
Great app as it allows me to book on the go where ever there is Internet. Was nice to book hostels on China as well, last minute. And the info regarding most of the hostels is convincing. The ability to use it offline and reach the destination is of great help in certain places. Where there could be an improvement is that, a more crude check could be done with the addresses posted by the hostel. Not all the times it was easy. But overall I would continue to use it! :)
I literally cannot see a map view of where the properties are in relation to the city I am trying to visit, is it by the airport, train station or a form of public transportation, no idea, i need to copy and paste the address to Google maps to see where in the city it is, want to read reviews for a place, can't click on to see the full reviews or see more than the 4 scrollable ones on the page, how is that helpful?
