Great VPN, no connection issues or anything of that sort. However, it was recently changed so that the free tier was able to watch ads to get a data allocation, 500mb, instead of just 15 minutes of connection time, which was previously the case. I thought this change was amazing, it dramatically improved my experience with the app. However, the developers recently changed it back to the time system and it is inexorably worse. I'm posting this review in support of the data system.
Before, I rated 5 stars for this app because it actually allowed me the websites I wanted to access. Now, it doesn't even work or even allow me to enter the websites that I've used before with the objective of the app that works as a VPN. I tried reinstalling it as an alternative solution but to my disappointment, the issue still remains. It was functioning swimmingly for maybe around a week or two, then I was bombarded with adds which I watched repeatedly and no time gained.
Main flaws: despite its claims, this app frequently does not automatically connect on untrusted wifi Networks leaving me exposed, and then it frequently connects on my trusted networks, such as on my already private network at home, thus cutting me off from interacting with the other devices on my network, very annoying. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling adding and re-adding to the trusted networks etc. Otherwise works great when I turn it on and off manually.
Signed up for a premium membership, was told it was $8.99 a month, was expecting to pay that but instead the full year amount was taken from my account. Also, paid for the membership, yet today when I logged on, it said I had basic. This better be fixed.
Can't be without vpn service, so I was forced to pay for subscription a second time to get my account working. Purchased a year worth through dashlane last month. Worked fine for a few weeks. App started telling me I had to subscribe again and since I can't wait for customer service response I was forced to pay for subscription a second time in the hotspot app
I'm fine with watching an ad every 15 minutes to get more connected time, but every time I open the app now or just leave it for 2 seconds I have to watch one or two 30 second ads, which is ridiculous when there's free VPNs that have no ads at all
A very average vpn service. The free version of the app is good but premium is not worth it at all. It lacks lots of essential features like kill switch, changing protocols (they removed these two in the last update), multihop, ip rotator, ip randomizer. Previously Hydra protocol was fastest in the market but with the introduction of wireguard it is falling behind. And on top of that the team is not working on any new features. It used to be my vpn of choice but it hurts to see Aura killing it.
It just shows a bunch of ads which you have to click through and then slowly connects if at all to some sites. Uninstalled. It used to be good though.
Randomly turns itself on, even when there is no change to a different network. No way to stop this. The app also makes the device thinks it's on mobile data instead of wifi which has many negative effects on other apps that require wifi to download content or back up files. Can't recommend.
I paid for premium service for faster speeds and now the speed is as slow if nit slower. Total waste of money and talking to someone in customer service is absolutely impossible. Junk ap!
I've been a premium subscriber for over a year. Best VPN for the $. Fast connections both in the U.S. and internationally. I stay connected all day sometimes without any issues. I see reviews complaining about having to watch ads for additional minutes and scoffing that they didn't want to pay for the premium service. I'm blown away at their entitled attitude as is they deserve to use a service and not pay for it. I say go Premium, it's worth it. You'll spend more $ on two trips to McDonald's.
Have it set to connect to all network types but often I find it disconnected. My home WiFi is nearly 160Mbps, with VPN on it seems throttled to the best I have managed today - 6.5Mbps. Not a good experience.
Used to be really good. One ad for 15 mins. Now one ad when you open the app and TWO for 15 mins. It doesn't connect well now either. Will be deleting and moving to another app now.
NICE APP❗ I often leave this app on all the time. I only realize that after a search result is from a country besides the U.S. or a price search is in £ instead of $. One minor thing – RARELY, after a long time, bandwidth might become slow to non-existent. The fix is easy - pull up Hotspot Shield, click the STOP button, then click START. 👉👉👉 On the other hand, speed may start out slow but then can get much faster over time. The app itself shows current speed. 👍👍👍 Great app overall❗❗❗
Subscribed and working great for almost a week. Now somehow reverted back to "basic free trial" (!) and if I try to log in it just keeps me stuck on one page with a pop up saying "You are already subscribed"! Well no sheet! Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get back in then?? Immediate unsubscribe. Do better.
I get the VPN included from Dashlane, but I cannot access/sign into anything when connected to the VPN. Defeats the purpose. Super frustrating, especially when all I want to do is browse safely and privately argh!
Worst support team, i had sent the issue i had with Premium service which was through Dashlane premium membership. You get Premium vpn of hotspot shield when you buy dashlane premium membership, but the service is not good. They are taking their time on the issue I had been facing since i bought the Premium. Highly disappointed and i have heard that their VPN is slow for dashlane premium customers.
Originally got my VPN through dashlane and it worked fine ever since they've swapped to this I've had nothing but trouble. VPN won't connect and if it does it completely blocks me from using the internet. I am not happy with this service.
Works fine on pc but now the android version won't connect did all the troubleshoot stuff nothing worked I got it from dashlane and now it's useless features because of hotspot shield.... To auto reply give me a solution no I won't fill in the link since that should be in the app not here even the support there is nothing but vage tips
Pretty concerned that the program reports a different IP address than other services report I have. How is this possible? While VPN does seem to work and seamlessly at that, not sure how it would report something so blatantly different in a completely different server. Happy to change my rating, even put in a report, but haven't heard anything. Paid for the full version as well.
Used to be a great app but now i have to go through a whole minute of ads just to access the app. Then i have to watch MORE ads in order to gain vpn time. I rarely ever review apps but this one is literally unusable now.
It keeps disconnecting randomly, even though I have connection time. And I really don't like that I have to watch an ad to use the app, use vpn tomato instead, its way better :[
I'm using the free version of this app and every time I stop using the app when I go back on all the time I have would say no time left fix it please....had 5 hours on it and just like that all was gone and it was turn off
After the update it became worse,many ads with less time to use the app,15 minute window which is very low level thinking, you already earn from the ads when we start the app but every 15 minutes, that very bad,
I paid for Premium for 3 years and it worked well enough. Then it just all of a sudden went to Basic. I sent a screen shot of my sccount showing I have Premium and they concurred. I still only have Basic when I try to access the service. Customer Care stated they can not assist me, not will they issue credit for the time I have not had access to Premium. Is this some sort of scam??? Be wary of this app since they do not stand behind their product.
New version 8.16.0 enabled by default a notification that says: "Hotspotshield is disconnected. Your data may be at risk." This is without the app being open. The notification cannot be dismissed and the app doesn't offer any way to disable this notification. Please fix as this is an intrusive notification that will lead to the app permanent uninstallation if it is not fixed soon. I already know when I need to connect to a VPN vs when I don't.
Very useful app. I wanted to play Clash Royale on school wifi, but the wifi had some restrictions, so I downloaded this app, and it worked! I was able to play or do anything on almost any wifi! And 15 minutes of connection time just for watching one 30sec add? Wow. But there are also some problems. Sometimes, the internet speed goes down from 0.24mbs to 0.9mbs for no reason, and on some wifis it just doesn't work, which is sad. But it still is a 9/10, thanks Pango GmbH!
