Horrible, I put in a reservation for a rent a car. When I arrived to the airport for the car rental agency was closed and I was left without a car. I contacted Hotwire though the app and they refused to refund any of my money. So basically Hotwire took my money and didn't provide with an option with a replacement rental car until the NEXT DAY! So I had to pay again to a different rent a car service or I would have been stuck at the airport till the NEXT MORNING. STAY AWAY FROM HOTWIRE!!!
Canadians be ware!! The app gives absolutely NO indication that it defaults to USD even when booking a local hotel in Canada. I didn't realize this until I looked at my credit card statement and was shocked. The room was listed at the same price in USD and CAD (within $2 per night), but I was charged in USD at a 0.71 exchange rate. Thus, I ended up significantly over paying for my non-refundable, no cancellation "Hot Rate" hotel room. I would've saved money booking direct with the hotel and received free cancelation (which would've been great now that we're experiencing an Omicron surge).
Horrible experience, instead of save money they will keep your money. "Secure your money and go to other place, bc hotwire is tricky" and customer service they do repeat the same to you once and once again, so cant even take a conversation with them.. i rented a car for $1,266... and due to their tricky app got frozen... i hit a second time to pay and it makes a 2nd reservation for another $1,266, talked to them, no willing to do anything for refund.. If you are poor u wont be saving with them
We've had mostly good experiences with hotwire. any bad experiences have been taken care of by their exceptional customer service. Be aware that the difference between a 3 star hotel and 2.5 is significant and can be potentially dangerous. (wish i were joking). we only book 3 and above and even then we try to keep it at 3.5 or higher. Happy travels!
I have used Hotwire for 20 years. Used to get good deals but now the deals aren't good and they use deceptive tactics. Last deal was supposed to be "3star all suites hotel". The hotel didn't have any suites! I called to get it changed or money back. They said they would cancel the reservation if I would pay them a $60 cancellation fee! I think they should be paying me. Remember you are stuck once you pay and the deals aren't what they say they are.
When entering destinations, search would not appear for me to select. Got really frustrating. Map resolution was off. When I entered Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico in the off chance that search was able to work, it presented me with an area directly south of the city by several km claiming that it was the city center. The mobile experience was so off-putting, I chose to use a different service.
Twice, this app has left me to sleep in my car. Not only was the hotel room hotwire had supposedly reserved for me unavailable for my check-in, but after spending hours on the phone with their customer service, whose English was hardly understandable, while standing in the hotel lobby, they were unable to resolve ANYTHING! And it was too late by that time to check in anywhere else! Best part about it is im still waiting a month later to be refunded. Tighten up Hotwire, you lost me for good!
They say the prices are always lower with the app. THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE! After downloading the app my trip price increased by $600 plus this was the only travel site that couldn't find a rental car near the airport I was flying to. I don't understand how it is that every other travel site could find me a rental car at the airport I needec to fly to except this Hotwire. I will never use this site again!
The app is great and user friendly. I use it all of the time. There's always good deals to be had. Customer service from people at hotwire has also been exceptional when I have had any problems (by problems I mean mistakes that I have made). Two thumbs up for the app and hot wires customer service!
Horrible! Used them on/off for yrs & always had a great experience. Been a while but went to use them again & had issue after issue with their site! Kept erroring out when trying to book & even said booking not completed. This was already after previous issues. Resigned myself to paying $50 more directly through a hotel & turns out it still charged me! Even though I was never assigned a hotel or given an address & the website said booking not completed. AND they won't refund me the money! Scam!
I specifically searched and booked an oceanfront hotel so that my children and I would be able to walk to the beach quickly and safely. This was my first trip alone with kids so I was very specific about what I wanted/needed. The hotel ended up nowhere near the ocean, 4+ miles, or a 15-20 min drive. Ive contacted Hotwire cust. service several times. The only thing they'll offer for their mistake is a $25 credit. This place is a fraud!!
DONT BOOK A SUITE! Over the years had great exp. booked 12+ trips, no problems. Had a rough experience with the hotel I booked(Almost 2hr check-in) got to the front and they oversold their rooms and downgraded us to what they had left, but had to charge the extra price I paid for a suite since it was paid through Hotwire. Called Hotwire and they said I didn't book a suite & that I was only guaranteed a room for 2 even though the front desk confirmed I paid more for the suite. Never again.👎
Hotwire is great for Hotels but not for car rentals. I've used Hotwire to book hotels for years, but after 3 (very frustrating) attempts to rent a car through them I've decided to stop using Hotwire. Over the last year, I've had the same experience of booking a car to only later find out at the rental agency that they don't have that car available. This has wasted so much time and money. While Hotwire has refunded me each time, it is only after hours of waiting followed by needed to call the insurance company (Allianz) to separately request my refund for insurance... which was book through the Hotwire app! Working with Allianz was a nightmare and I only got a refund for one of the 3 incidence. This is no way to do business.
Horrible, csr wasted time and was no help. App is really glitchy. Applied my promo code then took it off after checkout. Straight bait and switch tactic. Could've saved a lot of time and a little extra money just booking directly with the hotel. With all the competition with travel apps now, there is no need to use hotwire anymore and deal with their shady business tactics.
Pretty good deals on hotels but the app itself is buggy and has failed everytime I attempt to book. I deleted and reinstalled yet the issue persist. I have to call customer service to make the reservations and have missed good deals in doing so. Three stars for the deals but will be seeking a different company with a better app. Good luck with your search.
This is a very easy to use application that is self explanatory and very intuitive. I fly standby all the time and I can book a car or hotel when I land and I have only had issues one time out of many when booking last minute. When I have booked in advance, I don't have any issues. Great service, good app.
Worst travel app!! Most expensive rates of most apps! Horrible for trying to choose. Does not let you choose, hotels or hostels, or motels. Goes right to hotels. Blocks out amenities so you can't choose what you want. Horrible app!!! Would rate less than one star, if had the rating!!
Hit and miss. Advertised price is not what the hotel costs. Buried in their policies is a statement that says your rate may be higher than what Hotel charges. Keep that in mind when you see what appears to be a great deal. Chances are its 5-10 less than per night than advertised on 60 dollar a night hotel. Always check the hotel if you can first before booking. Some hotels offer better deals directly. I will not book through this company again. Otherwise the app is easy to use.
Well I got the app because said you can look at all reviews in app, there's absolutely no where you can do that. Also you can't make screen bigger, I don't like how the hotel jump on the map and sideways instead of up and down
I live in Canada. Online they said I should try the app to get a better rate. Turns out it was a whole lot better! Like 30% less!! But when i booked, my cc got charged a much higher amount. WHAT?? OH! Because the APP WORKS IN USD!! They can't refund it they said. Terrible.
I am definitely not a fan of this app. Booked a non smoking room. Of course the app changed it to a smoking room. The individual at the counter asked where I booked and before I can answer he said was it Hotwire or Expedia. I told him it was Hotwire and he let me know this happens a lot. With my luck all the double rooms were all booked. Had no choice but to stay in a smoking room. Once we got in there we could not take it. Immediately had to request another room they had available.
App crashes constantly. The option to reset your password just takes you to a blank screen. When you call customer service they are no help at all. The woman that I spoke with kept telling me to access something that I didn't have access to, only to tell me after being on the phone for 25 minutes that you can't do it via the mobile app and it had to be done on a desktop or iPad. Absolutely horrible experience and I will never use hotwire again and advise anyone reading this to use anything else.
Tried booking on the app but there was an unknown error - happened twice. The room was not booked but my card had two separate pending charges. Called customer service but they wouldn't speak - even though I could hear background noise. Two different agents did the same thing. Finally spoke with someone but they put me on hold for 40mins told me my card wasn't charged and stopped talking, like the other agents, until I hung up. Super weird, extremely aggravating and will not use the app anymore.
HORRIBLE. Booked flights on this app, and had all settings listed in CAD prices. Double checked before paying that the price was definitely CAD (total cost at top of page WAS DEFINITELY showing Canadian dollars). Found out AFTER paying, that the price was USD, and charged my card in USD. Customer service would not help me fix the difference. Canadian customers be aware! They'll charge you US dollars regardless of your app settings!
Feels like the app is a smokescreen to distract you from poor reviews. Super difficult to access customer service; app randomly shuts you out of conversations with agents when you navigate away from chat screen. Won't stop sending you notifications no matter what you press. Not cheaper than just using the webpage; they add extra taxes and fees.
I buy travel all kinds of ways and this is the simplest, fastest and almost always best (when I occasionally waste my time to check) way to book both hotels and cars. Unless you are navigating yourself into a barracuda sea of booked up resources during a very busy time/place, this app can help you successfully buck the system with zero planning on the fly. Love it!!!
No longer reliable. I've used hotwire for rental cars for 20 years and they have screwed me on two trips in a row. The last trip they told me the vendor was on-airport, and it was not. Required an added hour each direction waiting for a second shuttle. I rented today's car 19 hours ago. I foolishly clicked a "hot rate" which is not cancelable. The prices are half today. Half. Thanks for taking care of me, Hotwire. @#$& you.
