HRV Lite by CardioMood

CardioMood provides a scientific approach to your heart rate variability analysis.
With HRV Lite you will be able to:✓ Take measurements of your HRV with unlimited durations✓ Estimate your average stress level (Bayevsky Stress Index)✓ Calculate time-domain HRV parameters (mRR, SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50)✓ Detect and eliminate ectopic beats✓ Sync with the CardioMood cloud at http://app.cardiomood.com

We also calculate 20*log RMSSD, which is a popular metric for HRV used in many apps, such as ithlete, SelfLoops, Bioforce HRV, Lepo and others. Just as in other apps we call it "HRV score".

We will be glad if you support our project by purchasing Expert HRV (an expert app for HRV analysis).

We hope you will like our effort and leave us a positive feedback! :)

Requirements and limitations

* At this moment we only support Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (aka Bluetooth SMART).
* Your phone must have Android 4.3 or higher.
* Even though we support recording with unlimited duration, you should avoid very long measurements.
* To avoid problems with cloud syncing, the time and time zone should be set correctly

If your device is not supported, don't give up and don't give us negative review.Feel free to report a bug, or request a new feature via [email protected].

Free CardioMood Account

In order to use the app you will need to create a free CardioMood account. We do not distribute spam and everything is for research purposes only! We provide it for free to get more feedback, so that the algorithms can be improved. If you do not trust us, simply specify a fake name. :)

Instructions

Our heart is controlled by autonomic nervous system, so heart rhythm reflects its state. By analyzing beat-to-beat variability (also known as HRV), we can easily estimate the ratio of activities of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Our body reacts to stress by increasing sympathetic tone. When we are stressed, our heart rhythm tends to be more stable resulting in a low variability. In contrast, a relaxed state is usually associated with high HRV.

Here is how you can evaluate your stress level:1. Wear your heart rate monitor and relax (sit in the chair or lie down)2. Set the measurement limit to be 2 min.3. Establish connection with your heart rate monitor4. Click START RECORDING5. See your heart rate graph with average stress level after 2 minutes

If you see artifacts or ectopic beats, try to eliminate them or adjust heart rate monitor to ensure good connection and repeat the procedure.

We estimate stress level using standard algorithm developed by a soviet physiologist R.M.Bayevsky. Normal range for stress index is 40 – 150. Values above 150 is considered to be associated with stressed condition. Values below 40 are often associated with sleep (it is like that for example if you stay awake too long).

Even though there are standards for HRV, all estimated parameters and normal ranges can be individual. Only a trained physician can correctly interpret the recording, with respect to your individual features and medical history.

This app works pretty well. It has had some problems connecting through Bluetooth, but has gotten better over updates. I was happy to provide data to the developers anonymously, but the recent update requiring an account log in crosses a line for me. I will be uninstalling the app as a result (only waited to uninstall in order to post here), and returning to a homebrew app instead.

Why can't you just use the phone's camera combined with flash for HRV, like other apps? Also, have you contacted Samsung and other manufacturers that include an HR sensor? I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 with HR sensor, but you can't use it. Very disappointing.

For stupid reasons this company would blacklist users. Got suspected cracking/pirating their app, but I only sideloaded its apk on a phone without official gms, and all things including previous records malfunction on my other phones. This Corp seems focus on supervising user behaviors, not analysis, nor quality.

Superb functionality for free app.

It detects HRV but plots no graph, so no report.

I had just decided to buy the expert version of HRV, because the lite version promised so much potential. HOWEVER, the "star" button near the top right of the screen freezes the app on my GS4. I've tried it several times, with reboots. I think the star is to go to some website, perhaps even to google play to write a review. BUT, it freezes the app with a black screen, and no functions on the phone work except double tapping the physical button to get Samsung Voice....then you can forcefully terminate the app under GS4 Settings ... Then you can use your phone again.

It's off to a good start. UI is pretty good (upload status doesn't need to be interruptive though). Some inconsistent results or weird behaviour also; history screen shows a stress value of 134 but it's 55 when opened. Are the results adaptive to a certain baseline like ithletes helpful color codings?

Seriously, no 'forgotten password' option?? How am I supposed to retrieve it? Otherwise is perfect. But please, let me use the app without creating a new account.
