on accessing the app it says service temporarily unavailable then shows the log in screen, but have to log in twice because the 1st time it freezes on either the pin screen after entering the new 6 digit number or a blank white screen. Slow to react when finally gaining access. Very poor. Worked better before the "upgrade" and even that could be troublesome. Sometimes change isn't for the best!

I can't remember this ever working properly, three and a half years later and it's the same issues but worse. It's always been difficult to gain access. Just now, I passed everything and know all my details only to be stopped by a screen that says that a previous attempt to activate my digital security key is active and if I want to resume it. I click on yes and it says error and crashes and to phone customer service. I do and get passed around because they're useless on there too

Edit - Forced to update to the new version, now can't access the app, it crashes on start. NOT HAPPY. The app is good for day to day banking, transfers, bill payments etc. The fast balance feature doesn't show available balance, which is annoying as it did a few months ago... And the notification feature is pretty useless, as it doesn't actually notify you of transactions... A pop up notification/alert would be good, so you can open the app to check the details...

Used to work perfectly, now out of the blue I can't get past the log in screen - biometrics just leads me to an error page every time. So frustrating as this app used to be great for fast balances, transfers and checking statements, now I'm back to the laptop to log in online which is so inconvenient. Please fix this app ASAP! Never had a problem before, been using it for years, now back to square one.

Awful! The original app last yr was fine,don't fix what was working perfectly fine & made it worse.The new but definitely not improved version is very slow,taking twice the amount of space,not user friendly& auto deleted my biometrics so had to reset everything,wasting my time.Very difficult to find statements now whereas before it was really convenient. My internet is exactly the same so don't blame the Internet connection. Pls bring back the old version from b4 2021. Thanks

Completely useless since the update. Crashes when trying to log in with biometrics. You have to use the "close all" option to reset, which of course closes all your other apps. This happened when I was trying to book a flight. Ended up losing the booking and had to start from scratch (and of course the price had gone up). Will be using the OTP option from now on.

The app now requires you to tell it you want to use your fingerprint every time you want to login (the previous version remembered this, saving you one tap right at the start); it's now noticeably slower. The interface is less compact, meaning you see less data. I feel I'm being pushed to use the "other services", which I'm guessing annoys other users as much as it annoys me. If I want to browse your services, I'll do it from a PC. I just want the app to manage my finances guys.

Updated app doesn't work half the time, it is most frustrating, app use to work fine for years, then it was updated about a month ago and now half the time it doesn't load and just gives you a greyed out start up screen which you can not get past, and you can not reset, or turn it off and on again, you just have to wait several hours for it to clear itself and try again, which is not convenient. Total nightmare!

This new app is not fit for purpose. Most of the time it won't allow access via fingerprint whereas the old app worked perfectly for years. When I then try to log in via pass code it flips out and then the screen freezes to prevent access altogether. Absolutely hopeless. My Nat West account allows access via fingerprint each and every time without issue.

A classic case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". For me, the HSBC Mobile Banking App has worked fine for years on the last three Samsung Galaxy phones that I've owned. The most recent update (March 2022) has however turned a generally reliable app into an unstable unreliable one. Trying to log in using the 'biometrics' (fingerprint) freezes the app rendering it unusable. As a result, I can't currently access mobile banking on my smartphone.

Since the update to introduce a 6 digit security code, the app now won't open with biometrics first time, it accepts fingerprint then freezes. I have to clear memory every time to get it to open. Edit to add that now the app won't close properly either, selecting 'Log Off' does nothing. It's also really frustrating that you can't alter the amount of an existing standing order. Having to flick between a browser session and the app (to generate security code) on a phone is cumbersome.

I am writing once again to state just how bad the HSBC app is. Since its update a few months ago, there are nothing but problems with the login. The app is unable to recognise the eye identification without crashing. The option to use your numerical password, is almost useless, as the eye scanner doesn't allow enough time to try the other option, before your eyes have been read, then the app crashes as it cannot keep up with the information it's being presented. 4 months and still hopeless 😪.

The HSBC app and online banking have all always been quite rubbish, but I always think that it can't get any worse, well I was wrong!! After this last updated I can't even log into the app, besides being 100% sure that my pass key is correct, it won't take it and keeps telling me is wrong. Customer service is pretty useless as well so would be fun to get this sorted.

The most recent update was just ridiculous. I understand wanting to increase security but it's been implemented so SO badly. I have no idea who thought forcing you to minimise a web page at checkout to open a different app for authentication was a good idea, it's caused me multiple failed payments and duplicate orders already through timeouts and refreshes. It was fine before, it didn't need changing, sort it out!!

The new app has some useful notifications letting you know when money comes out of your account. It doesn't feel as secure now that the physical secure key has been made redundant though. I resisted switching away from this when I had the option. It certainly felt more secure when sending money that I had to generate a code on a proprietary device to verify it. I'm happier with the new app now that I have had time to set it up and use it but wasn't happy with the sudden switch of login method.

It was a pretty basic but dependable app until the recent update. It's horribly slow, freezes all the time and checking account transactions is actually harder cause of that sliding function. Fix it cause it's bad. Edit: 2/12- the developer states that ' the app runs perfectly fine on Android' and only had issues with Pixel. No, it does not run fine. I use Samsung, everything is updated and it crashes all the time. Update 2022- new update and it crashes all the time on log in with biometrics. Awful app, huge institution and your app is terrible.

I never rate apps but the latest update is awful. What was the point?! I can't even see my payment due date unless I open the actual PDF statement. The app doesn't automatically log you off when you try to login again after some time has passed, just tells you it's not working basically, and you have to manually log yourself off to log back in. It also deselects your notification preferences every other day so you don't get notified of transactions. It is useless and I'll be switching banks.

Terrible. I appreciate it's there for my protection, but I spent ages last week trying to make a credit card payment and three times in a row it rejected my credentials when trying to verify it via the app. I gave up in the end and opted for an old-fashioned text message code instead which then worked. Useless since the last big interface update.

This app is most frustrating. I never had a problem with my HSBC app until changes were made to the log in process. My screen freezes and the app is left hanging. It is completely unusable. I have contacted HSBC for help. I have checked for app updates. They are up to date. I have uninstalled the app and re-installed it. HSBC support has been most helpful but the app is a problem. It works for 3 hours and then freezes again. My banking app with another Bank works perfectly.

I was reasonably happy with the app, considering what I use it for and would happily give 4*. However, since a recent update with regard to passwords, I'm far from happy now. Changing to numerical only, from alpha-numerical, is in my opinion a big step backwards as far as security is concerned. If people wish to use numerical only passwords that's their choice, I want my apha-numrical password option returned!!

Truly awful... Biometric log in works about 1 in 10 times. Extremely frustrating, especially as previous version worked completely fine. HSBC suggested fix of updating Android system web view makes no difference. Replies to reviews suggest that they are unaware of the scale and nature of the problem - eg: one response asserts confidently it 'works fine' with Android 7+ - Just not true! So come on HSBC fix the problem or say what the plan is to do so. 40+ year customer at wits end with this!

Buggy and DOESNT WORK. After recent updates it doesn't open properly, and crashes during the start up process and needs to be opened 2-3 times before it starts properly. Now, I can't transfer money as the list of payees won't load with an error, or it says I don't have any. So I can't access my own money. This app really is rubbish - time to find another bank.

Awful. The app doesn't load, after many attempts when you finally log on and attempt to pay, it says you aren't logged on. It basically doesn't work. Abysmal. UPDATE: App still malfunctioning. Freezes mid transaction or mid-log in, says transfer could not be processed when it shows on my statement. Freezes while trying to log in and the only way out is to restart the phone. How come other banks, within the HSBC group manage to offer usable apps?

Ever since I started with this bank, I've had nothing but headaches. I have called up the helpline several times because every time I try and activate my mobile app it says activation failed. It is truly frustrating and their only assistance is that I need to wait for them to reset another thing over and over and I am now tempted to just switch banks. Usually I wouldn't write reviews but honestly it's awful. I've never even managed to sign in.

Update has removed important features of the app, made it more slow to load and is much more buggy. For example, in the old app you could see credit card payments had gone through as the app would show "available credit" separately. Not really sure how any of this is a good upgrade.
