Disappointed with the change developers made to this app when it comes to check deposits. I've struggled with it ever since it began auto taking pictures, but today has been the worst of it. 10 minutes of readjusting angles and i could not get it to take a picture at all of the front of the check. The ONE time the thing took a picture, it was blurry. My app is up to date. Not happy with my experience with this bank now that the local branch has also closed.
I have spent 30 minutes across several days to try to deposit a check. Taking the photo is a frustrating process because I either can't get the app to take a photo or I keep getting error messages even though I'm following the instructions. Then once I take the photo, it keeps saying I can't deposit the check because it can't read the numbers. HSBC has closed almost all of its branches so please prioritize fixing this feature in the mobile app. The only alternative is for me to switch banks.
I've been trying to deposit a check by the app and it won't simply do it. The auto-capture does not work. No matter the backrgy, the lighting or the flashlight being on/off, it simply does not work. You need to change this to be a manual capture instead!
Could really be a convenient app. Some little tweaks could be made to the way it displays account deductions, additions, and balances. Haven't been able to deposit a cheque since update. Simply doesn't work. Even more egregious considering I have to drive miles to find a bricks and mortar HSBC bank.
The app is down again, with a code-based maintenance message happening at login. No way to access bank accounts, or to generate a code to access the web version. What is the point if your customers cannot access their accounts? What company operates maintenance over the weekend without the right people in place to avoid such issues? This is beyond dysfunctional and does not build trust with your customers. Fix this!
depositing checks is weak. no memo field and taking pictures of checks is hard to use. Shutter clicks prematurely before having time to position hands to avoid casting shadows. Clicking cancel button closed entire app forcing another 2 factor login.
After a few months of NOT simply spamming "Please adjust so the check image fills the frame and try again" every time I try to take a picture of the front of a check for the mobile check deposit, this behavior is back with a vengeance. Now it seems to only take a picture of the front of the check if it doesn't actually fit in the frame.
The check deposit feature is frustrating. It has readily captures the front of a check but struggles to capture the back. Took numerous attempts before it finally took the picture. Suggest adding a button to permit the user to capture the image like other banks do.
it always takes a very long time to get a good photo of the check and it doesn't always accept them. it is particularly annoying because they closed my local branches.
Worst app ever. I've tried too many times to count to get this to work. Activation fails EVERY time. I am done with this card .. would rate 0 stars if possible
Trash. Unable to agree to Terms and Conditions when making a payment on "new" app. So frustrating!! Have to use laptop, and pay on website. FIX YOUR APP...
This app used to work well, but it's virtually impossible for it to read my checks for depositing on my Galaxy S21. It took over 100 tries before it finally went through using all settings. With my local branch closing I'm even more dependent on the app. Please fix! 2/22 latest version still has the same issue. It can't detect the front of the check.
Mobile check deposit is trash, never works. Tried on multiple platforms and devices. NEVER WORKS! IT'S 2022, FIX IT!
02/21/2022 - The app was updated and was a vast improvement over my original review. Also, being a premier customer and getting premier customer service was probably what improved the service. Unfortunately, due to all of H.S.B.C. USA issues they have sold off their entire retail (branch banking) unit. Not fully sold on Citizens bank (they don't respond to any questions via website, IG, Twitter or email). I never had issues with HSBC but life goes on and so will my money.
Check Scanner is terrible... I have used this app for many years and has always been clunky, but worked! Latest update of the app won't scan a check for deposit and I tried 3 different latest phones from Samsung and Apple. Where is the quality checks before releasing and app?? Very disappointed as I expect more from HSBC! Oh, then tried to use the online chat... No response!
Excellent app with all the required features for day to day banking. Easy navigation and performance of the app is great. Need more services like check deposits, Zelle etc.,.
Another 1 star review! Took over 45 minutes talking to customer support to even get the security screening activated and even after that the app still didn't work. Every time I try to deposit a check it says "please try again later." Customer service's answer, well try again later. Why would it work later if it never worked in the first place? The unhelpful customer service followup response?: I would request you to visit a branch or a nearby ATM and deposit the check there, Or i can also help you with an address, you can send the check there, and we will deposit the check on your behalf. Insist they open an IT ticket at the very least.
app it's useless, doesn't open and shows no info of errors or anything, this is stopping customers to use their funds this is not a joke, fix this ASAP
Entered my account info exactly and app will not complete the process. Keeps saying to check account information.
I guess it's an upgrade of sorts. I had to spend 15 minutes on the phone switching some sort of digital security from my old phone to this one, but at least I don't have to enter my birth date every time I want to check my account, and finally can use a fingerprint (hallelujah!). However, it's still incredible that I can't pay my balance from the phone. I need to go on their horrible website and navigate my way to the payments. It's 2019!!
I'm not sure why people are having trouble with finger print scan? I just downloaded this new version of this app and it was right there, and it works well. This program is definitely scaled down from the last version, but it seems to have almost all the functions I need in an online banking app. There are a few minor issues, like getting notified that a check deposit was actually processed. Overall though I like this app and think most people will too. I'm not clear if I was supposed to delete the old version of this app and sent a message that was never answered. Bottom line is it does what I need and is easy to access and navigate. 4 stars. Saving one for improvements.
Worst app ever! Taking pictures of the check for deposit is impossible! Also who put the flash on and off to the lower right hand corner! Took me a while to find it. Turn on the flash and it still complained about the image. Took me more than 10 minutes to finally complete the deposit! The previous app gives me all the control of the image and I control when to take the picture. The flash thing was on the upper left hand corner where it is easy to find.
It's amazing with this app/bank, I always encounter an unusual problem you don't experience with other banks. Auto pay for credit card, I only get the option to pay minimum or statement balance, what if I want to pay more than minimum??? There should be the third option of "other" where customers can input a certain amount. Please fix this, it's really not that difficult. Other banks don't have this problem.
The check deposit feature DOESN'T WORK on this new version - it refuses to take the photo of the check, and even when it's a green light (which you would think would me "OK"), it won't take the photo. No way to do it manually, you just have to wait for the app to be happy with the positioning, and it never is (or is totally randomly every once in a while). Used to work fine on the old version. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Very frustrating. The rest of the app seems OK, but this is the ONE FEATURE I use regularly. Aargh. Just updated the app, and whatever bugs got fixed, it wasn't the check deposit bug.
This app is Garbage, the whole point is to save time by depositing with it instead of going to the bank. However the amount of time it takes to do something so simple is insane. Give me the option to take the picture myself instead of having the app randomly take pictures when I can clearly see the camera is not focused yet. Aside from that doesn't matter the light doesn't matter if I can see everything perfectly the stupid app thinks that the picture is not in frame or good. Ridiculous
This app has serious issues with taking images of a check. I have a very nice phone with a very capable camera - Samsung Note 8, but can't manage to take photo and deposit the check. The app keeps showing me messages, asking to fill the frame. Messages are popping up in such a fast succession that I don't get enough time to compose the image. This app is useless for mobile deposit and it's a major feature for me in a mobile banking app.
The app is clearly in its infancy and rushed to release. 1. Prompting for DoB with spin dial selectors is very inconvenient. 2. Selecting digital security option goes in circles without accomplishing anything. 3. Taking pictures of a check for deposit is clunky and flaky. After finally taking an image of the check, it spit out some error. I tried twice before giving up and depositing to another bank. Take a look at Ally how it's done.
Their previous app was bad, but this one is worse. Less features. You can't do 99% of things you want. Want to create a new payee for bill pay? Nope. Want recurring payments? Nope. Want to do a transfer to another bank? Nope. It's funny I see them replying to use reviews like these things are unintended issue and would be resolved by calling them when these features are just not part of the app. HSBC had always been 10 years behind on technology.
The basic functionality seems to be ok, but when it comes to check deposits, the app is completely broken. Even after taking multiple images with different lighting, background etc, it gives an error about not being able to read some numbers at the bottom of the check. The images seem to be visibly clear with no shadows or other marks; yet the consistent error message shows up. Net result is that there is no way to deposit a check remotely. Chat support couldn't help either. Very disappointing.
