Hulu

When I click on a show it loads the opening Hulu Original splash screen and then freezes and crashes my Chromecast with GoogleTv. The device then restarts. I just tried to resume an episode I had started on my Roku and it played 30 seconds of a commercial then froze and started a loud clicking noise I had to unplug my Chromecast. I've reported to support and they said they've had other reports of the same thing happening but apparently they are in no rush to fix it. Developers should be embarrassed. I guess I'll have to find other ways to watch the shows.

How is this still in business? I am watching this app go from bad to worse. Hear us!!! There are at least 5 people who say the same thing. This is overly bloated, too slow and I have to restart my shield after every episode! And these weird selected decorations.... Who thought adding line above the link a good idea? I end up selecting the wrong item every time. Don't you guys have any UX sense?

If there isn't a roll-back to this update or at least a fix I will be cancelling my subscription immediately. The interface was ugly before, but at least it worked. The last update sacrifices any functionality for pretty pastel colors and fancy transitions. White text on a light blue background? Really? Who in their right mind thought this was acceptable? As if that wasn't bad enough I couldn't even watch one show before it crashed and locked up my nvidia shield so bad it had to be reset, which it does every time I try again. This update has rendered the app completely unusable.

App is outdated and does not support modern features of Hulu such as Live TV, things they mention in the description of this very app!!! Right now the app was last updated in 2017 (two years ago) and they have no plans to do so. I wish they would update the app. I'd like to use more of their features, but they clearly don't want my or any other Android TV user's money. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR APP HULU. UPDATE: App has been updated and has full Hulu functionality. Upgrading my review from 1 to 4 stars. I'm not a huge fan of the Hulu interface.

Video quality is poor. Things often start with no picture at all or the sound isn't synced with the picture. It's gotten to the point where I'm legitimately surprised when something starts correctly the first time and doesn't take like five tries to get it started properly. Besides that, I've had the app randomly close in the middle of something several times. It's also told me I have no network connection when the speed test on the TV shows I clearly do. This is a mess Hulu. Your service isn't cheap. For what I pay I should get much better.

I am running this app on a TCL Android TV. This latest update crashes and causes the TV to reboot every time we use it. Also, the pause button no longer works. You have to use the play button to play/pause. The pause button works in all the other apps. The app borders on unusable. I don’t think I’ve been able to watch an entire episode of anything without at least one random reboot. This is the only app that crashes the TV.

Live TV is broken. We pay extra for live TV with Hulu, but it often doesn't work on our Sony XBR55X900E. Sometimes we get a vague error message. Other times, it just buffers forever. Even when it does work, it often stutters and jumps. All of our other apps work just fine. On top of all that, there's no surround sound, and Hulu is raising our rates.

I like the new design pretty well, but oh my god, this app works like trash. If I'm watching a TV series and pause for long enough for the screensaver to activate, Hulu will think I'm watching the previous episode after I reactivate the app. That is unless it times out on pause during the last few minutes of an episode, in which case it will think that the episode is over and start the next episode on reactivation. Every once in a while, I'll encounter a bug where at the start of a show, the fast-forward/rewind functions are disabled and the show will stop and return to the beginning after about 40 seconds, and repeat like that on a loop until I restart the Android TV. I've never encountered these issues when using the mobile app. I'm using a 2015 Shield Android TV with current software.

At first, it worked just fine on my brand-new (2018 model) Android TV from Sony. That is, until I upgraded my Hulu service to "Hulu with Live TV". Then I found out (the hard way) that the Android TV version of the Hulu app does not support Live TV. This was the whole purpose of my buying a new Android smart TV., so I could cut off from cable. Now I have a TV and a streaming service that I am not happy with and I will be getting rid of one (and maybe both). It's very disappointing after using (and enjoying) the Hulu service for over three years.

Hulu is a rip-off. They entice you in with a $2/mo discount, then the second you try to upgrade your plan (to give them more money) they yank that discount away. Not quite bait-and-swtich, but close. The TV app is serviceable, but clunky to use. Pretty but not well laid-out, so you hve to do a LOT of clicking. And finding your way around is difficult. It needs some work, possibly a complete re-design.. I didn't try the phone app because once they yanked their promised discount, I yanked my account.

I don't know why this is even on the play store for Android TV any longer. It's not been updated for over a year and HULU said they have NO plans to do so. Live TV will never happen and is NOT supported here. This doesn't support profiles and has a host of other bugs they will never fix. This app on Fire TV and everything else works great.

Finally got the latest Hulu update on Shield, and now we have profiles and everything we could wish for. Runs smooth, fast and flawless. I don't know what other people are complaining about. We are very happy with this update. Also the claim that (third party) remotes don't work is false, again no issues with the app, or remotes or anything else. Everything is working the way it is supposed to.

The app is almost a year old, doesn't support profiles, still uses the old UI, doesn't support HBO or other similar content, and has audo/video sync issues (even using Ethernet on a connection that is plenty fast enough to not need to buffer). Thankfully casting to the Android TV is supported, and the normal Android Hulu app works fairly well with Chromecast.

Playback is terrible. On a regular basis I will start a show. It will show the hulu logo, sounds plays, but I don't see the video. Going back and staring again works and I get the video. Other than this, it does what it needs to. Not that it matters, since if I want to watch hulu I don't have any other options on Android TV.

App only plays audio and no video for about 30 when starting any content (Hulu Live or a TV episode) on the Nvidia Shield TV 2019. It also does this after every commercial (ad) during the show. The app has absolutely no settings to adjust like any other streaming app to attempt to correct the problem. $70 per month and I can't even just click a show and watch it without problems. Side Note: the navigation really needs improvement as it takes way too many clicks to get to anything, the reaction from remote click to movement is extremely slow; combined issues results in accidentally clicking on the wrong thing contently.

I have the same issue with the MiBox S. I had the Android update. HULU became literally impossible to use (froze every 3 seconds) and that's not an exaggeration. I uninstalled it to see if I could fix the issue with a reinstall, and now I can't get it back. Please make the app compatible so we can reinstall the app. Why should I pay for HULU when I can't use it on my main devices. If it isn't fixed soon I will be cancelling my subscription, because this issue is one created by HULU, that shouldn't exist

The app has been more or less abandoned at this point which leaves it stuck with the old interface and no live TV and multiple profiles support. The app has been updated on the Roku and Apple TV, so why not update the Android TV app so we can get the latest features and not be left out in the cold.

Limited functionality, no support for User Profiles and doesn't seem to be updated more than maybe once per year,ear if that. Shamefully poor for a paid subscription service. It supports only the default user profile, and plays from that user's list well enough, but Hulu is giving all other users in your household a big FU finger. No Hulu for you! If I can't use it on my TV, I think it's time to cancel the subscription. I could understand this when Android TV was new and not widely used, but that hasn't been the case for years now, no excuse for such poor support except lack of effort by Hulu.

This app is unusable. It is absolute garbage. I have to constantly restart it to keep it working. Reading the other reviews it appears I'm not alone. You'd think that with all of the money that Disney has they could afford to hire some software engineers who know what they're doing. It is the ONLY streaming app I have that is this unusable.

I installed this on a Sony XBR65x930E. Once you select a movie to play, you have no control over it other than pausing and playing.. Forward, rewind, and other controls don't respond. The app hasn't been udated in years. Why make a seperate Hulu for Android TV app if you aren't going to update it. They should have a unified app for all platforms.

Worked great until whatever update they recently (July 2019 maybe) they made to it. Since then, every single time it tries to go to a commercial break, the app crashes. Iif you relaunch the app and go to resume the same video, it starts you at the very beginning. Nexus Player. Worked perfect until then.

Like every other recent user has stated, this app is useless. Biggest problem seems to be on demand playback. Can barely watch before video freezes and audio continues. If I watch on my tablet in browser and cast it to device no issue. So that points to this app being the issue and not my ISP. Hard to believe Hulu hasn't done anything to fix this considering the number of similar complaints recently.

New update pushed today broke the experience on my Nvidia Shield Android TV running android P. The app performance is very sluggish and the app keeps buffering and freezing when playing content. App worked great prior to the new update and unfortunately there is no way to roll back. Uninstalling and re-installing the app doesn't make any difference. Since last update on August 7, 2019, nothing has changed. The app still freezes and support or feedback from Hulu development team has been abysmal to said the least. Just search for Hulu freezing on Nvidia Shield TV and you will see that many people still having issues.

It is very convenient to access Hulu via my PC or iPad to search for content that I want to watch (keyboard, mouse vs onscreen alphabet pick). I can add content to MyStuff which is fine, but my Android TV DVR runs the ‘classic’ Hulu app which does NOT have MyStuff, rather it has a Watchlist. Content in Watchlist can be imported into MyStuff which is nice, I guess. Content in MyStuff cannot be seen in the Watchlist. So either the new Hulu app needs to offer better backward compatibility support OR the new Hulu app needs to come to Android TV (same with Roku, I believe).

Auto play doesnt work. Trying to play a title after finishing one doesnt work. Any troubleshooting doesnt fix it. 3 months trying to contact the weirdos on support hasnt helped. Hulu doesnt exist for TV any longer it seems. I dont watch tv on phone or PC so this is useless. Garbage.

The HULU Live TV app doesn't work well with our TV and soundbar. We have a Sony XBR-55X800H and HT-Z9F soundbar and the picture freezes and buffers all the time also the sound stops working and I have to uninstall and reinstall the app to fix the problem. We pay extra for this app and I don't think it is worth it at all. This has been a problem for several months and all the other apps and live channels work great on the Sony TV and soundbar. I do not recommend HULU. I will be switching to Youtube TV.

What a mess. Constantly freezing screen (audio continues) during commercials. Sometimes just flat out dies after playing a commercial. I have to back out of the show and restart it. Of course it looses where I am so have to fast forward through a bunch of the show which triggers an other set of commercials.

The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because I can technically use it. But the fact that the Android TV version of Hulu doesn't match the mobile version is absurd! Missing the new layout, the option of profiles, and Hulu Live TV kind of defeats the purpose of having Hulu on the Android TV. Hulu please keep up with your competitors and update your app the same way Amazon and Netflix keep their versions consistent.

This app still has bugs. I subsribe to the ad-version of Hulu and the app works fine for a little while then the video will freeze during one of the Ads breaks but meanwhile the audio will keep playing. The behavior continues after the Ads are over so the app has to be restarted. This behavoir is present on my Nvidia Shield and my three Chromecast w/ Google TV units.

I waited so long for Hulu to get updated on my Android TV, and now the app literally does not open without crashing. I figured I was just SOL because I have a slightly older Android TV, but all of the reviews here confirm that this is just an awful, way too late and yet still somehow rushed update. Hulu, please let me know when I can actually use your service on my TV again. Thanks a million.
