This app really shows lots of info that is otherwise hard to find, for example compared to Google maps navigation. If you travel far with local trains in Japan, some will have extra fees along the way depending on how far you go, and this app actually shows that info. But the interface is a tiny bit confusing sometimes.
At the moment I can choose only two city: Tokyo and Kyoto. I don't understand which is the problem. If you surf to the Hyperdia's website, everything works. I will change my rating when this is will be updated.
on our last visit 2010 the website was our go to... with this app, it just didn't work. aside the fact, that Japanese write their stations differently (n to m in spoken language), it was hard to navigate or get any result. :-(
This app used to work, yet for some reason lately, the website seems to work much better. I can understand why people would prefer the app, but if I want to find a train line from Namba in Osaka to anywhere else within Kansai starting at 10 AM, I will be shown a train trip starting between 5 and 6 AM
Excellent app for Japan Trains just like the website. You can plan your rides on the go if you have access to the internet. The only downside is you can only download this in Japan so make this the first app you download when you land.
App not updated since 2015. Do not use! Old non-updated app should be removed from the play store. You can use the website, make a shortcut icon...
Tried testing this in preparation for an upcoming trip and it's unusable. Can't find basic routes UI from 2005 If this is the "go to" app for find JR only trains to use with the pass then hoo-boy
Hyperdia says to download the app to filter JR pass compatible routes but you have to pay for that option. Why not just offer on the regular website?
I didn't like this app in Japan as it was too much hassle finding a station name. So much quicker using Google maps
in 2019 this app stop working because too old and builded for android 2.3. Please update project!!! I can help. ;)
Menu button required to buy access for JR Pass filter but meny button not visible on Galaxy S9 in English!!
Very outdated and unattractive appearance and simply not as good as the in-browser site
No way to buy the Japan Rail Pass option. Confusing and frustrating.
It has a few issues but it's an invaluable tool for anyone trying to get around by train in Japan.
worked great to plan rail trips travel from tokyo to central Japan....toyama,kyoto,odawara,takayama......could not trave in Japan without this...GET IT.
Simple and featureless but it works. Use it all the time.
It was good. Tild me platforms and reseevation prices. Will use again.
Works great! This is my goto app when I was in Japan.
Needs updating or replacing... Not accepting new destinations.
Old app that doesn't find train stations.
One of the worst user interfaces ever
Must have app for Japan rail travel
Can't live in Japan without this app
I cant select the feature jr pass so uninstalled
The website is better than this application.
Vrry useful and easy to use
The app didn't work.
For English speakers, this app is almost very good. It provides enough information to plan and price a trip, but unless you can read Japanese very well actually taking a trip with it will be difficult because, it doesn't provide platform numbers for where to catch your train. Which makes things difficult for people who aren't proficient in Japanese, especially if you're transferring at an unfamiliar station. Another useful feature would be English instructions for purchasing tickets for specific trips from the various kiosks and probably also one-man cars. In its current state, this is a good app, but still very much a work in progress.
