New update, new review : this app is getting close to perfect. So much fun with it, and unforgettable B&W experience. I'm a photographer and this is just great, neat software and functionality. Keep it up and thanks for the good work. Development ideas : - mason grid gallery instead of the square one (not everybody captures square.) - ability to flick pictures while in edit mode (would prevent going back and forth through the gallery)

Cute black and white camera. Which is quite limiting, because pictures should be taken in full color than converted to B&W afterwards. Doing them from the begining without color limits further editing. Also, from the previews the filter packs are nice, nicer than the average B&W photo app filters available in the Play Store. But I never felt a need to spend my money to get them regardless of the ”special offer”.

It's heading the right way but the app really needs some improvement. Personally, I love the images that come out of the app, however, it's slow to respond and not intuitive to use. I'd like to see a change to the adjustments option, when you're trying to take an image and want to adjust contrast or something, the positioning and access just isn't right, it's also slow to respond. There's also lag when I'm taking images. Also, please add a timer.

Really impressive black and white camera app. Easy to use, and captures extraordinary images every time. Highly recommended.

It was a lot of fun. This app will be briliant when you want to take photos that looks old and vintage.

Does not integrate with any photo apps. Cannot find photos from this app in photos app, Google photos, ir any other place.

I love it and use it as a personal photo diary, however my phone got stolen and I really wish there was a way to get my photos back(I kept them in the app only)

This app has been around for years, hands-down my favourite for creating black and white photo's. I always like to try out new apps, but I keep on coming back to this one. The quality is consistent, if you use the right settings your photo's can really look like they were shot on film (which is great if you don't have the kind of money to spend on expensive film and developing it, but do enjoy the look of it)

Like the pics but app full of bugs. Auto Save to Camera Album turned on, yet pics no where to be found. Select them in Gallery tab, then Save to Album still no where to be found. Also keep being prompted to select a path but nothing saved to created folder. Yet pics show in Album tab. Where are they? Mute shutter doesn't work. Turning Autofocus off doesn't work. Exposure wrong. Select bright area exposure goes up not down and visa versa. But never stays at what you selected anyway. Frustrating!

I honestly feel that you are planning to shut this app down. There have been no new updates for a very long time. I love using this app but lately it crashes everytime I open it. And pictures aren't getting saved either. They get saved as blank grey images. If you are shutting down this app then please do it already. And if that is not plan then please do something about the frequent crashes.

Looks like great app! However I can not find a way to set the focal length (crop factor), which is crucial for me. I can change it while shooting, but it resets to wide angle every time I go back to the app, so unfortunately it is not usable for me. Also, I noticed that the photos are not stored as JPGs in any folder, only inside the app, and when you uninstall it they are gone! So be careful.

Pretty good! Makes me want to pull out my old K1000! Annoying things: 1) Camera settings are lost between uses. Wish I didn't have to turn on the yellow filter each time I open the app. 2) Wish the images were just saved to the phone storage rather than accessable only from the app until xfered. 3) Blacks get crushed too easily: the curves on the exposure slider need to be adjusted to maintain detail in the darks...and in the whites for that matter. But for the price, I'm really happy with it!

The app is great. I love it. I'd like to support the developers. As it is one time purchase, not some ridiculously expensive subscription model, I proceed to purchase all the filter & the textures packages. But that's when the problem begins... I got all the filters alright. But I couldn't find any of the textures... please tell me how to find it.

Edit - this app need to take advantage of the new phones with multiple lenes! Really good black and white control. Can capture nice tones and moods using the supplied simulations. The user interface is clunky and not that intuitive. I would suggest to make this a paid app and invest in a better user experience. Export and review functionality is lacking. Still the best B&W Android on the market!

Overall i like all the features for photo editing to black and white. But recently, out of a sudden i lost several pictures from the apps. And because the app gallery did not sync with the phone gallery i did not have any back up of the pics. Some other editing apps can automatically store editing results in phone gallery. With Hypocam, I have to manually save to phone gallery.

a bit of uncharted territory, inline help wise. app crashes sometimes, but that's not unexpected after a rewrite. took me 5 minutes to find myself familiar with the controls after that it was pure joy to photograph everything. nice textures and filter. recommended purchases: all filter, all textures. both for ~10€ at time of writing. best this side of Adobe lightroom.

Almost there. As well as being a decent camera app it's great for converting photos in to B&W photos, but the lack of integration stops it from being efficient. I would much rather use my own gallery to look at my photos and then be able to "share" to the app. The integrated gallery view is laggy and static. Use the Android default to select images would have been more elegant. I like the simplistic interface in the other sections though. So 2,9 stars.

Great B&W photos, but very bad UX. I love the photos I can take with this app, even without any additional filter packs, but the UX is really bad. Viewing photos in gallery, you would expect pressing the OS back arrow to go back to previous screen (camera) but instead quits entire app. In gallery you expect to tap picture to open preview, but only a long press will open. No pinch zoom in preview, touching photo closes preview. Filters can't be applied to existing photos.

Ok, so this app takes great pictures.. But everything else is terrible. They try to have you do everything from the app, and it's bad. No help or instruction sections. It WILL NOT save to your phone automatically. You have to go to share>other and upload to Google photos, And despite being able to select multiple photos, it will only allow you to do It one at a time. Very awkward to use. The UI is garbage, it's pretty, but laggy as heck and awful to use

The sheer quality of the pictures is always excellent. I have a P30 Pro, and the resulting photos from Hypocam always exceed the proprietary app's B&W settings. Clarity, tone, saturation - all modulated better. However, I fully agree with other reviews in that the file sizes & the manner in which they get saved needs changed. Far too difficult.

I had purchased all the filters available since I found it truly amazing. But what I have observed that the application has become slow and ought to lag a lot during the course of time. I have mailed as well for the same but didn't get proper response besides common tryouts to mitigate the issue which I had already done. I am not sure why the concerned team is not at all looking up to this. Please I urge you to have a look on this and resolve the slowness and lagging of the application. Thanks

No zoom in the editing mode. It's crucial to see 100% magnification, 1:1. Also agree with some user below who said it's often counterintuitive, that long taps showing the originals without filters, I don't know. Make it possible to autostart the edit mode instead of the camera for those who would like to use it just for bw filtering. Will change my vote when fixed, of course. So far decent results, nice app to have, thanks.

So far, I'm very impressed with the app for shooting monochrome images. Using the various filters and textures that I purchased are also easy to apply. Although, you have to touch symbols in the app to see exactly what each symbol represents and allows you to do, I did not find this to be an issue. I haven't found anything I don't like, and with a bit of time in the app, it is enjoyable to use.

Its an awesome app for bw photos. I love the look and the layout. in reference to the filters. i am disappointed of not able to purchase the all filters pack. Nothing happens when I press on OK got it... And this is the case with few other individual filters too...only few show the google play payment window. others are not responsive.

Brilliant app for B&W photography. The app design and UI are very well thought and slick, giving you a lot of control without being intrusive. My only suggestion would be to make it easier to show photos full screen in the Gallery without having to go through the Edit screen for each photo

kar. b. Aug 17, 2021

It used to be a very good app but now it stopped saving pics. The pictures that's been taken just gets stored in its internal gallary. Nothing happens if you click "save to album" button. But the trick is to send it to someone else on whatsapp or to any other editing app directly from its export option and that's how I can keep a copy of the picture in my phone.. please fix this.

Jef. W. Jun 12, 2020

For non-photographer to explore b&w: easy pleasing interface but is missing critical info/control: No histogram, and no info or control of shutter speed or iso. So you just have to trust the auto exposure and squint and guess while you're editing whether or not shadows or highlights are blocked out, and that'll depend on your phone's screen brightness. The ability to switch out digitally simulated color lens filters on a black and white live view, though, is really cool and a great way to learn.

What a terrible app! I paid for the extras and really regret it. WHERE ARE THE PICTURES! I've spent hours digging through folders on my phone looking for the pictures. I tried various export functions and they are appearing in ones and twos in different folders. As another reviewer pointed out - what an appalling interface! So unintuitve! The Hypocam folder is empty but I see the pictures in the app. WHERE ARE THEY!!!!!!!!!!!
