I, Cyborg

Outfly, outshoot, and outwit your enemies as an outlaw cyborg on the run! You're a cyborg copy of Ypsilanti Rowe, the interstellar outlaw, whose enemies (and exes) are gunning for you. Can you upgrade your brain and pull one last heist?

"I, Cyborg" is a 300,000-word interactive science-fiction novel by Tracy Canfield. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Being a cyborg copy of the famous outlaw Ypsilanti Rowe comes with plenty of advantages. But when your cybernetic brain begins to fail only a rare and obsolete part can make your systems function again. Journey across the galaxy as you hunt down the missing piece. Along the way you'll shoot down enemy ships, or jam their sensors so they never know you're there; seduce Ypsilanti's old flames—or just stay out of their gunsights; dogfight beneath high-gravity stormclouds and race pirates through a mined-out asteroid's rocky tunnels.

When Ypsilanti turns up in the original flesh, will the two of you make the perfect team? Or is there only room in this galaxy for one of you?

• Play as male or female; gay, straight, bisexual, or asexual.
• Boost your skills with cybernetic upgrades: you're a cyborg!
• Ambush a weapons shipment above a gas giant's rings.
• Smuggle alien pets, penetrate the walls of a comet prison, and befriend an intelligent starship.
• Work for the local crime lords, set them at each others' throats, or rat them out to the Intersolar Police.
• Infiltrate the halls of power and steal top-secret data with a touch of your augmented fingertips.
• Choose to favor your human instincts, your custom software, or a balance between the two.

Incredibly well written, quirky, funny, and exciting. Surprisingly diverse choice trees, and algorithms that change certain events to require a different strategy depending on your character's personality or skillset. Deeply impressed with the planning ability of the writer. Found myself replaying over and over just to try the different romantic options because they were so interesting.

Christian Vedsø, you shouldn't review a game you have not actually played. Because this game is ABSOLUTELY one of the BEST! Anyone remotely interested in choose your own adventure games should play this one. Great storytelling, entertaining, and versatile. Really lets you feel in control of your own story. It does seem difficult, especially at the beginning, but it's worth the payoff & that just ups its replay value in my opinion. I honestly have zero complaints, which is rare. I need a sequel!

Really good narrative told where stats in game actually matter. Good use of characters, but I found the way the sentences were constructed sometimes hard to understand. In my first play through I was a bit confused what some words were even after checking the stats page list. These words if found, after googling them, were made up words for the game which I had to derrive by there context or if a character explicitly stated it.

I really enjoyed this game and wanted to play it multiple times to see all the different endings I can get. It was fun. Most of the choices seem to heavily influence the outcome of the story, which keeps it interesting. There are a bunch of unexpected turns and twists to the story. The outcomes seem to depend a lot on stats, which depend pretty heavily on the choices at the very beginning of the game. The only criticism I might make is that some of the endings were a little abrupt.

This game was my first ever experience with a CYOA game and, honestly, it was amazing. It pulled me in from the first page, and it kept pulling me in. Everything feels real, your actions have consequences, and there are multiple ways to play. My one gripe with this game has to be the lack of a sequel, but the ending closed off the possibility of that.

Only played the demo part, as I couldn't motivate myself to keep going - I played through it twice, and realized that, while you are presented with a lot of choices, few of them are choices at all; most describe your character's attitude to a situation without affecting the situation at all. That's not what I want from my CYOA stories, thank you. Some of the writing is quite good, but I feel the game is less choice-driven than it ought to be.

I have NEVER felt more absorbed by a CYOA game than I felt with this. The authors talent for world building is INCREDIBLE. Everything felt incredibly real from character to setting to minor details. Reactions were realistic and dialogue was witty and well written. The setting and concept is VERY unique and I felt connected to everything going on and my character so deeply! My first playthrough didn't go so well for my MC and I felt so much for him I cried. You're missing out if you skip this!

I love the interactive fiction games and I have played a great deal of them from both Hosted Games and Choice of Games LLC. I, Cyborg is quite possibly the best one I have ever played/read and worth every penny of the $5.99. If you are an interactive fiction fan and also love Sci-Fi this is hands down the book for you. Buy it, immerse yourself in it, and enjoy. Just make sure you have multiple hours put aside because you won't want to put it down.

The writing in this was some of the best I've seen in a CoG. I would have liked a few more options for interactions with Smarason and it's kind of disappointing that there doesnt seem to be much of a good way to get an ending with Quillon, but the characters were all very interesting. I loved the interactions with Pehlivan.

Great storyline, amazing characters and very interesting world building! Different choices lead to different dialogue and set different tones. Very enjoyable and repayable

A fun game and an engaging story. I really enjoyed this sci-fi title and it was totally worth the price. My only issue was how the game relied on your stats heavily.

Very very fun. One of the longer books with one of the best stories. Great characters, great dilemmas, and great story arc.

I adore this game and the worldbuilding. I've played as a bunch of different characters, and keep looking for another game as well-written. No luck so far!

I liked each part of the story but the ending it was just too fast and not as detailed as other episodes.

Pretty solid sci-fi story. Worth the price. Reminded me a little of Total Recall, or Blade Runner.
