Whether you are an experienced birder, a bird watcher or a beginner at birding, iBird’s intelligent search engine and comprehensive species accounts will turn you into a birding expert. Completely up to date with species designated by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), iBird UK Lite contains a database of 50 species of both native and rare United Kingdom and Ireland birds. It's the perfect way to evaluate if you want to enjoy the hobby of birding for free.

Using iBird's patented “Percevia™” matching system you can identify birds by colour, location, shape, habitat or any one of our 34 identification attributes. You can even search by bird song. iBird's species pages have dozens of built-in bird songs from the talented recordists of the Xeno-Canto community, hundreds of professional high resolution photographs, hand-drawn composite illustrations and range maps. No other bird app offers both illustrations and photographs.

From well-known birds to exotic rare species, iBird works like magic, revealing a list of birds that perfectly matches your search choices. With over 1 million downloads of all versions, iBird is the standard by which all birding apps are measured.

Excellent app. I have already bought the full version for my ipad but can only use the demo version on my android phone unless I purchase it again. I'm not prepared to do this. It should be possible to use it on other devices once you have bought it.

Insufficient sample birds in order to demo properly. You only have 7 days demo so why not give the option of getting a bigger database? App ignores male/female differences, e.g. the female blackbird is not mentioned. Birds near me was utter rubbish, didn't show the obvious common birds in the 40 sample birds.

If your intention is to put people off - well done. Surely the object should be too enable those willing to learn how to observe and analyse. Not at all helpful in sorry to say.

The app would not open

OK, but rather slow and clunky, may be faster if fully downloaded. Not sure why neither the illustrations nor the pictures for some species (eg blackbird) show the female where there is sexual dimorphism. Also there seemed little information given about each species apart from a physical description. No info on diet, behaviour etc. The song samples are of decent quality but the attempts to phonetically describe the song are next to useless, I can't really correlate them to the bird calls, personally. EDITED IN RESPONSE: Yes, I did miss those extra menus, thanks. Lots more content, and some birds have both sexes & juvenile colouring illustrated, but then some don't. A bit confusing that, and I'm not sure the demo version sells the full version very well? Anyway, I've given an extra star, but I still don't like the interface much and prefer the other bird app I've previously used so far.

Selected blackbird and shows picture of puffin. It then took the developers a day under six months to ask for more details. Note that other reviewers seem to have experienced a similar issue of the wrong birds being shown.

Gave me a picture of an owl, identifying it as a woodpecker...

RUBBISH doesnt give you an identifier,no labels, and you have to know the name to find out what the bird is! DUH! The whole point of it is to IDENTIFY birds! If you already know the name you dont need this app! DO NOT GET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Only show 50 birds not worth the space
