iChing

The Book of Changes was originally written in the Western Zhou period (1000BCE) as a divination manual. This book eventually evolved into what Westerners call the I Ching.
Six numbers are randomly generated to make a hexagram which is then looked up in The Book of Changes. The book contains a list of hexagram interpretations as arranged by King Wen. Each interpretation suggestions a course of action in relation to the question posed to the oracle. A secondary of the hexagram provides additional guidance.

The I Ching has remained popular for 3,000 years. In the U.S. it is featured in Phillip K. Dick's award winning 1962 novel "The Man in the High Castle."
