This expression alludes to the dishonest practice of a merchant substituting a worthless cat for a valuable pig, which is discovered only when the buyer gets home and opens the bag. [Mid-1700s]
silver liningAn element of hope or a redeeming quality in an otherwise bad situation, as in "The rally had a disappointing turnout, but the silver lining was that those who came pledged a great deal of money." This metaphoric term is a shortening of "Every cloud has a silver lining," in turn derived from John Milton's Comus (1634): "A sable cloud turns forth its silver lining on the night."
a picture is worth a thousand wordsA graphic illustration conveys a stronger message than words, as in "The book jacket is a big selling point—one picture is worth a thousand words." This saying was invented by an advertising executive, Fred R. Barnard. To promote his agency's ads he took out an ad in Printer's Ink in 1921 with the headline "One Look Is Worth a Thousand Words" and attributed it to an ancient Japanese philosopher. Six years later he changed it to "Chinese Proverb: One Picture Is Worth Ten Thousand Words," illustrated with some Chinese characters. The attribution in both was invented; Barnard simply believed an Asian origin would give it more credibility.

I use their website frequently to help my beginning ESL look up idioms. They have a wonderfully exhaustive reference list of idioms that are searchable by word. I haven't used the app much yet, but it seems to be just as helpful as the full website, so I have high Hope's. The entries all provide comphrehensible definitions in addition to useful example sentences.
The app is very informative, decisive and user friendly. The fact that it has various sources of information makes it versatile and it covers a wide range of information. You can search and get any idiom you seek as the data base is linked to various sources, helping you source out related and synonymous content. The app is sure the best you can get when it comes to idioms.
By far the most complete app to build my vocabulary up and better my general understanding of the language. I just wish I was able to browse through the app letter by letter. perhaps it could be included in a premium package or something...
It's absolutely awesome It's one the best apps to build up vocabulary, idioms and slang that I have ever come across. It helps a lot to know about the usage of idioms very distinctly and precisely .I recommend everyone to utilize this app in order to improve in learning idioms and communicate well.
The v3.0 update did not fix this persistent issue. I'll search idioms, then close the app and open it back. But this time, Instead of crashing with popup message, Force Stops instead...

Garbage I have a brand new phone and it still salls etc closes, hi I tired this ap sometime ago. I listened to the ap creator and u installed and reinstalled. So far so good. Nice ap and very informative. Sorry firbthe lousy review the sort time. I try never doing that to anyone. Hiever I was so frustrated. Trying to get the ap to work etc. Ap is a really great ap. 🧡 Definitely I would recommend. 🧡
for my opinion that's a good app for idioms and slang there are a lot of phresel verbs, it's been helping me to boost up my level in English, however i think it needs more colors in the background ...

This is a very good app to learn Idioms but the fact is that when searching for Word with 'A' it doesn't show all of words starting with 'A'. Please fix this problem.
An alphabetical browser of idioms would have been better. Not useful for someone who is studying idioms methodically. Excellent for search purpose though.

Very useful app on my iphone, there is a large range of idioms and slang and the explaination is easy to read and understand, anyway, the app you must have on ur phone for learners of english

For whom this app designed.. Is this for aliens or for humans.. Every time for only one idiom i go forward and then backwards... Its not a good thing to do always... Its actually irritating me.. Not even bookmarked idioms are not displayed consecutively.

It's really useful to learn slang. I think using idioms and slang is an unofficial rule of being native in a language.

Okay, now that I've tested my fair share of apps that promise similar experience, I can say that this one is my absolute favorite so far. Not only it has the fullest idioms dictionary, it will also help you out with understanding the latest slang and colloquialisms that you hear all the time all over the Internet.
