Foursquare is a biblical term used for the Tabernacle, in the book of Exodus; for the Lord's temple, in Ezekiel 40:47 and heaven in the book of Revelation.
The term "Foursquare Gospel" was given to the founder Aimee Semple McPherson in inspiring the revival, during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, California, in 1922.
"Foursquare" is that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and resistant. Such confidence in the power of the gospel is expressed in Hebrews 13: 8, which is presented in Foursquare churches as "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and will be forever."
