DO NOT BUY iHome DEVICES: 1 star because I can't give 0. Unable to set up any devices. Every time I try i get a pop-up that says "In order to add a device, please make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi". I've tried with multiple phones, troubleshooted by myself and contacted customer support who gave me instructions which I tried with multiple phones. They then told me to return my switch because they no longer support the app. Super disappointed, I can't return the switch as it was a final sale.

It's really unfortunate that support for these were discontinued. I log in today to find out why my lights were note responding in the Alexa app & they won't load in this app. Now I have to figure out what to replace them with, however I had surgery, they were working fine and I can't do anything about it for at least another 2 months. Stop discontinuing apps that work. I've had apps that were no longer supported or updated but they continued to work. Useless items and no incentive to buy again.

Spontaneously stopped working. Two plug outlets will not reset, will not connect to WiFi. Nothing has changed in the rest of the home network.. All settings, including making sure 2.4 setting is in place. Have tried resetting about a dozen times. It used to take care of any issues I had but now all it does is bring up a message to connect to WiFi and it already is connected. Frustrating.

Can sometimes be aggravating to set up, but the help line is good. one thing I learned on my own if if you get a message that continues to say " permission needed", restart your phone and do it again. If the device doesn't connect the first time it gets stuck in that loop. Other than that the app works great. Also, make sure you have a 2.4ghz band on your wifi or they will not work.

Kind of works. If you notice, the Android app has not been updated since Sept 2018. That is two years since this review. I was able to set up my door sensor using an old iPhone. Rule set up and push notifications do work on the Android so once the devices are added to the account it is usable. It would be nice to have a pause feature on push notifications but since the app is no longer under development I don't see new features happening.

Update: It's not my damn phone. I've had problems setting up the IS550 with 3 different pure Android phones. I'm still not completely happy with this device. I'm not sure my issues are with the design of the app or the IS550 device. Setting up the device (connecting it to the app and setting up on my Wifi network) is more difficult and cumbersome than it should be. Fails repeatedly, until it finally works. As an occupancy sensor, it's unclear whether motion or sound is what is triggering it.

My 2 plugs worked perfectly until I upgraded my home network, now the app is useless. I'm getting the same not connected to wifi errors I've read on here. Nothing seems to fix it: permissions, reinstall, I've tried it all. My plugs are now paper weights. It's a shame that I'm not an isolated case and I've read just so many people having the same problem.

I'm digging these smart plugs! Whenever I'm using an ad hoc WiFi app, I have to remember to disable my data and setting up these smart plugs were no exception. Just turn off your data, for just a minute, to properly set these up, then promptly turn it back on when it's done. Another setup tip, the directions say reset the plug by holding down the button for a complete 12 seconds. At around 10 seconds, the red light starts flashing, at about 12 seconds, they both stop flashing. Great smart plugs!

Have been using this for a few years now. It is hit or miss, will disconnect often. Have to re-add device a lot. The process to set-up is cumbersome and frequently fails. I had to reset my router the other day and the device disconnected. After trying to re-connect device in app I get "connect to wifi" error message even though I am. Buy something else or return what you got. I have given up.

Was skeptical about it's reliability or connectivity after seeing all the poor reviews. It took three attempts to reset wifi on plug and go through device setup before the device was connected. I tested a time rule for a lamp and it was spot on. So from the start the plug was not difficult to connect and it worked, hence the 4 stars. I haven't had it long enough to put it to more use to give a better reliability rating. This may be updated in the future.

Total Garbage. Setup on Android requires a jumping through a bunch of stupid hoops (i.e. turning on airplane mode). Once setup, I see my smart plug in the app, but turning it on doesn't do anything. The app shows that it's on, but it's not. Close the app and reopen and it shows as off. This piece of garbage is going back immediately. Edit: Developer's reply is worthless. I was using a 2.4gHz network. Setup completed successfully according to the app, it just did not actually turn on the switch.

Updated review: the wording in the app to describe the error message I was receiving was unhelpful. This was very frustrating. The developer emailed back within a day with information that eventually was clearer and enabled me to use my switch again. I have generally been pleased with this switch, but less so with the app. I greatly appreciate that it can be used through the wink app, alexa, and Samsung smart things after setup. Switch would get at least a 4.

Absolute nightmare to set up if you have an Android device! RESPONSE TO DEV:. I definitely have an account. I used it to finally complete the install after reviving an old iOS device I had. Why doesnt the Android app work like the iOS app? In fact, its hugely different. I was connecting to a 2.4GHz network and connected to the same network when using the iOS app which completed successfully. Edit: Android app is still buggy as hell. My account has my name on it. Perhaps another issue?

Came back because they claimed to have fixed all of the problems with their service. I can't get their plugs to work in their own app, let alone with Alexa or SmartThings. I saved their plugs (iSP5 and iSP6) for almost a year, hoping they would eventually work. They're in the trash now. I recommend staying away from iHome products due to their dishonesty.

App won't let me setup a new device. When you select add a new device it gives you an error saying you must be connected to WiFi even when you are connected to WiFi. App is required to use the product. Terrible experience, will be returning the smart plug. Tried a few more things and still didn't work. It was returned.

Lots of connectivity issues like when you unplug the device, seemingly 90% of the times you will have redo the entire setup. Same with changing wifi passwords. You should have the ability to do that in app as a main setting instead of having to delete all of your devices and redo install which then asks for the password. That said, 10% of the times it will work flawless. Example: I had it unplugged for a year and just plugged it in. It worked no problem!

Does not work, after updating firmware, app uninstalling/ reinstalling, full default of devices they still do not work reliably. I have the whole house covered in wireless and perform a lot of home automation with experiences in a variety of solutions. Most at least work or are simple to get going, I have two outlets and both fail all the time and required re-adding them to recover functionality.

I couldn't get through setup of the iHome motion sensor because the app could not detect that I was on wifi. I confirmed 2.4GHz connection, closed and reopened the app, restarted the phone, but still no luck. I'm a technology technician with 20 years experience and have installed a lot of Smart Home and IoT devices. This was just a flaw in the app. Returning the product and going with another brand.

Garbage! Was able to connect first time out of the box then i disconnected it trying to connect to Alexa and could never reconnect. At least it was free cuz that's all it's worth! I don't have time to sit on the phone trying to get it to work when it should always work. Save your money, just read the reviews!

these are great when the cloud isn't down. So far this week, my smart plugs have had a very long delay and aren't very responsive when using them through Alexa. the delay is so long that I've tried turning them on or off with the app and they get out of sync so they'll randomly turn on or off.

After using this app and having 5 sensors for more than two years I just wonder why you guys can not make it stable. I have changed phone few times and still the same Most of the time the app can not fetch stats from your server. Sometimes the notification is not working. Sometime it just make a sound and sometimes just showing. On the latest android nothing is working and no notification at all. Permissions are all given.
