Such a well designed app! I downloaded this yesterday and tried it out today. It's exactly what I've been hoping for to further my learning. There were a few things that I thought it would be nice if it could be adjusted and then I moved to a new screen or settings and it had more options than I could imagine. I've been using duolingo and watching Chinese language television with English subtitles. I think this app will drastically improve my comprehension.
Such a good app. There are so many sentences to practice and audio for everything that is said so you can practice your listening. I really recommend it.
This app is AWESOME! I very quickly subscribed for 6 months to start. A very great deal for a great product! Worth every little penny. I wanted to add it to my laptop as well. If you just follow the simple instructions the Customer Service will have you hooked up great. EXCELLENT Customer Service! I even learned that if you want the GPA Order Number, check your Gmail email account.
I use this app solely for speaking/listening practice when commuting long distances by connecting my phone to the car stereo. Before any long commute, I go through 1-2 lessons and then add them to the repetition training range. I launch repetition training, and try to understand what's being said and then repeat the sentences out loud. In this specific use case, the app works perfecly. If you want to practice listening/comprehension/speaking, I highly recommend trying this app while commuting.
This app helped me recognize the difference in pronouncing the different tones, and also has detailed explanation that helps me grasp the concept of the language much better. The app itself isn't the most revolutionary in terms of interface and there isn't a voice recognition where you can try and pronounce the words yourself and get feedback. However the actual enunciation of the words are reliable and there are no ads. I would definitely purchase the extra lessons for 5 dollars as well. Worth!
I've tried many Chinese learning apps, some of which are pretty good. But this is the one I've been looking for! The material is introduced with simple sentence templates, followed by variations and gradual addition of vocabulary and complexity. Edit 8/2020: This already superb learning till that I reviewed over a year ago is now even better, with the ability to bookmark words and sentences. If you believe in the immersion approach, this is the app you want!
The repetition training in particular is fantastic. I've been looking for an app to help improve my listening, and the ability to turn off my phone and have understandable input throughout the day is fantastic. It would be nice if the repetition training could repeat itself after running out of sentences. One service I would pay for, is adding additional speakers that are randomly used for the audio.
A ridiculously fantastic app! The audio quality is impeccable, the repetition tool is super helpful, the characters are written in a clear font, and the user interface is simply beautiful and minimalistic. I LOVE this app and plan to purchase the full version in the near future (the price is amazing for the good content [ $5 ] + only a one time payment, bless). The free version is incredibly generous, too! Keep up the good work!!!
This app is great! The sentences are ordered in a nice way that introduces new words and grammar very gradually, building on the previous sentences. You are supposed to figure it out as you go along with only a few explanations here and there, which feels natural and rewarding. The audio is of high quality. It has some nice extra functionality where you can make the app play sentences from previously studied lessons, which I also like a lot.
I've downloaded a lot of apps to help me improve my Mandarin, but this has got to be my favorite one. The repetitive nature of this app helped me with solidifying the meaning and use of different words, but it wasn't too repetitive to the point where I felt it was tedious. I would also like to suggest some sort of search button that quickly redirects learners to where the word was initially introduced
excellent App, can choose both traditional characters and simplified. Very clear and easy to understand with lots of daily life events, hopefully even more content will be added in the future, deserves 5 stars. Dev is also very helpful and quick to respond to any problems. Ive been using this app for more than 2 years and its been further developed, lots of useful sentences. I often use it by looking at the English translation and try to figure out the Chinese sentence before listening/reading.
Been using this for about a month now and made really good progress! It's simple but effective, and I think it has the best difficultly curve I've ever seen in a language course. The repetition training function is also really useful, I've started using it whenever I'm driving. Definitely recommended for serious learners, it's way more substantive than the usual language apps.
This is the first time I came to vote for an app all by myself, without any reminder by the app. This app is so amazing, no doubt it has to get 5 stars, it is easy to handle and gives you various options to learn Chinese in a simple way. It gives you access to all vocabulary words.The lessons are so easy, you can also practice reading characters along with the Pinyin.I am going to recommend this to all my fellow language partners. And THERE ARE NO ADS. Thankyou so much. It is totally worth it.
There is much to like about this app - it has a simple, clear interface, the content is excellent and the price is reasonable. But for an app that's based around repetition there's no spaced repetition software (SRS). This is a major shortcoming imo. There's currently no way of grading how well you've understood a sentence, sentences that you find easy are repeated with the same frequency as those you struggle to remember. I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't for this.
This app is absolutely amazing, and works for all different kinds of situations and skill levels. I grew up speaking Chinese, but couldn't read at all. For the longest time I couldn't find an app that worked for me, since most other apps also make you go through grammar and such, something I didn't need. This app gives you a no nonsense way of practicing and increasing your reading vocabulary, and you are free to go at whatever pace you'd like. Awesome!
The app is just amazing! The best material I've found to improve listening and vocabulary in real and useful contexts that make sense. I've been living in China for almost 2 years and have used a bunch of different materials, but most of them don't really take into account how the mind of Western languages speakers works neither what's useful for real life. This is one of the few apps that I can feel how the developers put themselves in the shoes of students to make learning effective.
Excellent app for beginners and intermediates. Lots of material, and the audio quality is superior to most other apps out there - very headphone friendly (I am looking at you, "Du Chinese"!). I had an issue with audio playback earlier (interruptions while screen is locked), which the developer responded and gave me a quick solution to in record time. Delightful!
Great app! Very helpful, and versatile in that I can use it both to practice Chinese -> English and English -> Chinese. One thing that could be added that would be amazing is to include the option for hearing the sentences also in English. Then it could easily be expanded to first hearing the sentences in english, followed by a delay during which you try saying the Chinese sentence, followed by hearing the Chinese. Coupled with the smooth difficulty curve of this app, that would be extremely helpful. I realize this probably would be a load of work for the spoken audio though :)
By far the best chinese learning app I have used. With Chinese, it is critical to have a way to see the pinyin, the tones, and the characters. This app allows users to hear pronunciation, to practice critical verbs and grammar so they are able to begin communicating as soon as they begin learning. I would only recommend the users to have the ability to click on a character and see its definition and common function in the sentance to allow users to review characters they may have forgotten.
If you really are determined enough to learn Chinese, this app will work better than any other. For me, I hide the pinyin and translation first, then I try to say the word/sentence that is shown out loud and after that I check the pinyin to see if my pronunciation is correct. If it is, I try to translate the word/sentence in my head and reveal the translation. If the translation is correct, I move on to the next word/sentence. Every few lessons I do a revision exercise. Highly recommended!
I've been studying Chinese for 3 months, have used a bunch of different apps, and this is my favorite. The content can be used in many different ways (listening comprehension, only show characters for reading, or only show English & translate...). I'm only on lesson 60 but it has been a huge help in the process. The only minor thing I would like is a way to export difficult or tricky words in each lesson to Anki for review, kind of like what the Hanping dictionary does when you star a word.
If you can recognize isolated words and simple phrases but can't understanding linked speech, this app will help. With enough repetition you will comprehend what has been said without having to think and translate. This app and it's graded content is a quick way to get there. I have had some issues with the sound and stability, but the support has been responsive and the audio issue may be specific to my device.
I learned how to make fun sentences in the first lesson! That's incredible! It's immediately apparent that this is a valuable language learning tool: introduction to new words is fluid and fun, toggling between slow and natural speeds is easy, and I find the clean and simple interface aesthetically pleasing. Initially, there are some free lessons and then you have to pay~ but it's is so great that I'm surpsised that there are so many free lessons. Wow.
I wish I had this app when I first learned Chinese. This app helps you learn grammar by seeing patterns in (thousands of) sentences, vocab in context in step-by-step progress. Coupled with other useful features, this helpful app makes your Chinese learning so convenient. My favorite feature is you can instantly look the definition (by tapping the clipboard icon at top right corner) for EACH word when learning the sentence. This app is so valuable that I think the price is too affordable. 很棒
The best app for what it does. And reasonably priced! I love the woman's voice, and her wonderful pronunciation, as well. The custom speed and repetition settings are exactly what I needed. I've had this app awhile, over 3 years. I love everything about it, and should have left a review earlier.
