rubbish. (2019)Now 2022... and still rubbish software for Android. Subscribed New App and repeatedly told still cancelled 2019, have to log in each time. Hangs on loading, crashes BUT, when it actually works, is an excellent concept. Pity about the New App software, had anticipated past faults would by now be corrected.

Since the latest upgrade, the app keeps freezing and then reloading pages, this makes it impossible to use, makes the subscription a waste of money. C'mon Independent get it sorted for Android or you will lose subscriptions.

I have used the previous version of this app for some time with little problem. This version seems to have difficulty downloading the news page with annoying regularity.

Doesn't work on Android???? Great experience of this app on an apple platform, but having recently switched to an ethical phone that uses Android, I cannot get it to work - it just crashes within a few seconds of opening every.single.time! Phone is brand new, updated etc etc, and I've gone through the steps of uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Continues to work just fine on my (old!) iPhone 7, but unusable on my new Android device 🤷‍♀️ Anyone else managed to get around this? Do share pls!

Old Subscription stopped working when was forced to upgrade. Had payed 149.99 for years subscription and now have no newspaper. Customer services appallingly slow and Google useless to help as well as all off shore and dont understand. 149.99 for a service you cant use awful. Customer services ignore emails pointless including it below.

Perplexed. New version updated, won't allow me to sign in to my account manually or automatically. Just won't load. Using Android 11.

I daresay it would be very good if it worked. All I get is a buffering symbol or sometimes a shrinking logo and nothing more.

Excellent news coverage, incisive analysis and thought-provoking comment. Also, a wide selection of email subscriptions to keep you up to speed.

Works fine but don't click on a podcast episode, as you'll never be able to get the podcast playback options off the bottom of the screen. I had to uninstall the app and redownload. A little ridiculous. Also doesn't seem like the news is actually updated. The Ukraine invasion page was updated 8 hours on the app, but 7 minutes ago on the website, for example.

The app doesn't open on my Google pixel phone, just a large logo disappearing to a small red dot.

Far better suited to Apple than Android, the phone hangs and crashes on a frequent basis - the iPad doesn't seem to suffer the same fault. Clever link back to full website for older, archived articles. No back button - I have to return to the main page and retrace my steps which is unnecessary and annoying. Clear font and presentation. I can't seem to search for a particular sport on the app? Overall, I find it less than impressive. I'll probably cancel my subscription and buy print

The news is good but the app is not. There are problems with updating the contents. Sometimes I open the app and it is all up to date, other times a small pop up appears at the bottom which you need to tap to update but if you don't catch it in time you are stuck with old news. Sometimes there's no way of updating. Please add a manual refresh option. I've been using this app for a few months now and this is still happening. Is anyone from the Independent actually reading this?

Great when it works 95% of the time. Hasn't updated the articles for 4 days now. I don't know what is going on. I'm tempted to cancel my subscription. I emailed for help and they said that their website has been updated but isn't syncing with the app - technical issues. I'll up my rating if it gets sorted soon as I really like reading the news here. It seems to be working again.

One job failed: can not read the news articles I've paid for. I am interrupted every other article, in the middle of reading its already downloaded text, with the whole article being replaced by the message, "Oops! Cannot load article content this time". Oops, indeed, given the content was already downloaded. Even if this were fixed, the lack of buffering for offline reading, lack of refresh control, and lack of search (not to mention other sensible features) makes this a really crappy news app.

More than a little disappointed that when viewing/completing anything in the puzzle section, it repeatedly drops out (albeit managing to retain any info you may have managed to input so on re-entering the puzzle, you can pick up at the point you were forced out) when accessing on a tablet (Android 9.0). Exceptionally frustrating when the idea is to relax!

Changed my review from 1 🌟 to 3. I took out my subscription while abroad and have in the meantime found that the problems with the app are cause by any low speed data connection. When linked to a "proper" 3/4G or WiFi network all works fine. But if you travel for work as I do that is not always possible. Halve of the 2/3rd world are on 2G. Dear Independent, you want a 5 🌟 review here?; Then put a proper low speed/data option in like text only. Photos can wait until home/better connection.

App 'functions' well enough but latest update, yet again, has barely any features of the website. Stories are often old or out of order and saving stories, for later reading, does not sync between app and website. Unable to search or read by author properly and this often fails. A very poor app has got worse. Much, much work still needs done with this. The app is almost pointless.

Disappointing. Often out of date by a whole day and shows only a fraction of the articles you can see on the website, yet all the articles are accessible if you know what to search for. I have a premium subscription, but this app needs to be better Update 17 July 8:20am. There is no news again today, everything is from yesterday. Uninstalling and cancelling subscription

Pretty useless on Android. Constantly crashing.

temperamental and glitchy. the app freezes on a regular basis. Whatever you do don't click on the audio because you can't stop it or turn it off even two days later. I had to uninstall the app and download it again to stop it playing.

Good for news and long reads, Suduko keeps crashing on my phone

My biggest bugbear with this app is that it attempts to load a video on each and every article you wish to read. While they do not autoplay the app blocks the article text if it cannot load the video (Content cannot be loaded) This is very frustrating when trying to read while on my commute or at any other time that my data connection is patchy. A shame as the journalism is generally excellent but this flaw makes it unreadable at times and not worth the £5.99 price tag.

Very disappointing app. For an online only news service you would expect the Independent to be the most advanced and best. Sadly this is not the case when it comes to this app. Premium features have not updated in weeks and the news stories only appear to update once a day. The website is great, but the app something of a flop at present.

Indy Live worked. This app is useless, unless you want random news items ordered entirely by time of posting, rather than by any kind of category. Yes, the items ARE given a category, but these are not contained in any kind of collection, not even chained through links. It's just an un-searchable tag. The description says the content can downloaded for offline reading. It can't.

It doesn't start up properly. A logo and that's it ☹️

Only 3 stars and that's only because of the news content. The latest uodate has removed the ability to choose which sections to display. half of the sections now don't load. Very poor update, can't see any so called improvements. put back the previous version.
