Insteon, you need to update this software. It has been hit or miss for 5 YEARS. App crashes on Android. Fails to connect to all devices showing yellow status and leaving user in doubt about device switching status. Some days, the app just won't connect with the hub. Other times the hub has lost connection with the network. If Insteon plans a future in this tech, they should focus on making their existing customers satisfied.
It gets the job done...I haven't experienced any persistent bugs. The Android version is terrible from a UI/UX standpoint. The high-quality hardware does not match the low-quality software on Android, unfortunately. I hope Insteon will release an updated version of the Android app soon. Some transparency on a release/progress toward a new version would be greatly appreciated.
I've used this app and the hub for year now. I'm ready to leave and go back to my ISY. This past month, I've got lights coming on that aren't in scenes. I've got lights in scenes that aren't working within their schedules. It's unacceptable. I've updated my rating to 4 stars because i do think the developers try hard to get a good working app. i would give Insteon hardware an F though. They never later last long. get an extended warranty if you can
This app is awkward to use and program. The interface is terrible - not user-friendly at all. The only good thing about the app is that I can link it with Google voice control, so I don't have to use the app itself very often. I would not recommend choosing Insteon, and if I hadn't already invested $$$ in the hardware, I would be switching to something else.
This worked well for nearly a year, but it is now totally unreliable. Most of the time the lights simply do not respond to set schedule. It often loses connection to the hub. This is crazy! If it doesn't respond to it's set schedule it is of no use to me. I will look elsewhere. Also, it is NOT user friendly!!!! No FAQ, no Help section, nothing!
#1. Andoid users STILL aren't able to access mini remote button mapping. If you have a mini remote & no Apple device, you're screwed. You can't use the app to open up the options for each button. I tried to unlink & relink manually but without changing the remotes through the app, there's ghost controls of previous links. #2. Where's the new app? This one's fallen so far behind every other smart home company it's kind of embarrassing at this point. :(
The Thermostat app looks cool BUT setting the temp with the circle ring thing is ridiculous. If I want to set it to 75 I have to guess at the appropriate position on the circle, take my finger off, wait for what feels like an eternity (several seconds) and then try again because I'm off by a few degrees. It's even tougher when in auto mode. PLEASE give us an option to enter the temperature directly by just typing in the numbers for the temp.
Do not buy Insteon. Their software is written by people who took a course in writing code in high school, like I took a course in typing in high school, and their code writing is just about as good as my typing. The hardware is awkward. Most of it requires a brand new house with a house-wide neutral wire. The software is the worst software I have ever used. I had to create three new accounts to finally use an account, which means there are two accounts that exist that I can't even delete, because I can't access them. If you, or, more likely, the software, screws up the installation, there is no way to correct it. Once stuff is working, it works fine, until it doesn't. My first hub just quit after three years. Turns out, there's a bad capacitor on it, worth about $1. Insteon will replace the hub even out of warranty-- if you have the original bill of sale. Right. I bought Insteon to replace/supplement an X10 installation that worked okay, but wouldn't integrate with contemporary smart homes. The exact same stuff made by Insteon cost literally 10 times what the X10 hardware cost, to do the exact same things. And now they're eliminated X10 support. Don't buy Insteon.
My hub died after 2 years so I replaced it. In order to connect to the hub I have an option of using my old account or creating a new one. My old account continues to search for my old hub. Theres no option to set up a new hub with an existing account. Setting up a new account fails. Theres no way for me to get out of these endless loops or a way to manually enter in new hub info. Everything in my house is connected to this and it's very frustrating. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling several times.
Have to logout and login constantly. I've been using Insteon and this app for 5+years. For the past several months, I've had problems connecting with the app where the only way to fix the issue is log out and log back in to my account. The app seems to work fine on a windows 10 PC, but doesn't have all the features. However I'm not always going to have my laptop with me which defeats the purpose of having the app on my smart phone. Need it to be mobile. Get with the program smart labs.
This app is so unintuitive and it doesn't seem to properly control my lights. I used to use X10 and it worked great and this worked for a while but now it does not seem to function well at all lights turn on and off whenever they want to not according to the schedule I have set up very disappointed I hope they do an update soon.
All the other reviews I've read are really a bunch of whiners! Is the app perfect? No, but show me one that is. I have been using Hub for several years and I too went through the failed-hub experience. Not fun, but not related to this app either. The app works well for me. I use hub with Cortana and an HK speaker and have no issues with anything working. I have over s dozen Insteon devices and app is good for all. Sure, the UI needs improvement but I have a sizable base so its good for me.
terrible user interface. videos of 6 seconds to explain something that one sentence of text would cover? No way to create a scene because it wants you to select a device yet no way to do so, selecting a room doesn't let you choose devices in n the room or implicitly choose all members of a room. This is supposed to be more advanced than x10 however the 1990s interfaces for that were better.
I have been using Insteon going on 3 years. Insteon is a X10 replacement for my home and I picked Insteon for it's hardware to replace my 220v switches for pool pumps. In all I have about 30 devices. In addition I use Insteon because it uses the dual technology of RF and power line. The foot print of devices is at least 200 ft and all function 98% of the time. I haven't used any of the other brands, so I can't give a comparison. But I can say support is very helpful and have good follow up.
Insteon hub no longer authenticates with their service effective 4/14/2022. Thus, do not invest in any products. Their support site and forums also appear to be down. This is bad... Very bad. I have a huge investment in my jobs and switches which no longer work. And really, why does the Hub have to connect to their service at all? Why can it not be self-reliant. This is a very bad situation.
2476D dimmers can't be programmatically set to anything other than 0 or 100%. Unfortunate. Several comms with Insteon only resulted in "There is a Major Update coming for Android but we can't tell you anything about it." Pretty sad. I gave a second star only for the features that they advertise, which are good features. Sadly, the implementation is sub-par to non-working and lacking continuous support (no update to the app in over a year).
its time to move on... it's sad because I've invested a ton of money in this tech and the insteon protocol is solid... but lack of updates and poor quality of the products has forced me to move on to a more open source and reliable service... IMHO insteon has really missed the boat... maybe they can figure it out and come back but I'm not waiting...
This is a un programmable so called progr- ammable device, it is unable to preformed the simple task that it was build to do" set the temp for sleep time and wake time". Customer service is bad in general they have no knowledge of the product and can not offer any valid insight or troubleshooting on any of their products. I have everything insteon from the fan link to the motion detection, hub, light bulbs, smoke bridge, open closed sensors, plugs and so forth, it dosen't matter on what issues.
Ok when it works, but the app frequently has issues getting the status of my devices and controlling them. It'll just sit there with a little spinning icon on each of my devices, and while it's doing this it can't turn anything on or off. Frustrating!
Easy! Reliable! Intuitive! Well-designed! Functional! These are words you will not use to describe Insteon products. Operation was difficult enough back when the app actually worked and now, it simply doesn't. There used to be lots of promises and apologies from their "support" department (read: PR/damage control) but no actual delivery, and now they're not even bothering to reply--last reply from Smartlabs (Smartlabs? Really??) was on July 26 2019. The last actual update was in 2017. The "gold standard of home automation"? Yeah, right.
Insteon is extremely biased towards iOS and much of the promised functionality only works there, or not at all. The Android app is almost an afterthought and is missing MANY promised programming features. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to send back nearly $1000 worth of hardware and try something else. Disgraceful.
Logs me out every time I open the app. So frustrating to not just have the app open. Certainly can't get to alerts going off quickly! Oh, and good luck buying any products from them ... Everything is always sold out even with no sale going on. Been that way since late 2020. I've moved all my products over to Simplisafe.
This app does not work with Android 10+ which makes the smart switches and all the other gear useless. Like everyone else here I'm very disappointed there hasn't been an update since 2017. I now have overly priced thermostat, smoke bridge and switches that are just as dumb as the company that made them.
To say I'm disappointed in Insteon is an understatement. Still waiting for the promised new and improved app. I halted my planned adaptation of the products even though i have over a thousand dollars of the product in boxes waiting to be installed. Some of these are cameras (3) which we're now told Insteon is abandoning. If there is no new app by year end that actually has substance then I'll abandon Insteon and maybe my plan for smart devices in general.
Big disappointment. I love all my Insteon devices, but this app really let's the hardware down. It's very limited, super buggy, and the interface is ugly and doesn't remotely follow Android design language. There are so many features house linc once had that hub is missing. Bring house linc back! At minimum give me Sunset and Sunrise offsets!
I've been using insteon products and this app for approximately 10 years with no problem, although I tend to control them through Google Home or Alexa. I'm currently running Android 12 with no operational issues, but it does caution me that it was written for an older OS. I am concerned that they have not updated thier software and while I understand the current supply chain issues they seem to have been out of stock on to many items for too long. I sure wish they would keep us updated.
