The search system is broken, trying to locate and download topical works, the system will not allow orderly scrolling. Often jumped back to the top, or random change to a different group of books. I just wanted text works for bushcraft, got an immense variety of other topics. Used to have a simple search app called "Archivist " that actually worked, but it seems to have been removed from availability. Before that there was a simple topic search system that gave a fixed list of results. Bad!
I was looking for the app because I LOVE the 'borrow a book' feature the website has but I'm not a fan of the website interface, so I thought the app would have a mobile friendly interface to read books, but it's the same except WITH ads. Ok so I borrowed a book. There's a 'fullscreen' feature but the book covers 60% of the screen and there's huge text at the top and a huge ad at the bottom. People read for escapism, not ads. You should add a genuine fullscreen feature when people are reading.
It looks like came right from the stoneage. The UI was just 30 yrs old and yes the app was amazing smooth with only a thousand or so bugs. Yup, the developers are the best in their field. Even half asleep, they have managed to cook up something so rewarding and pleasant to our eyes. One will just end up with severe headache and nausea. That's it. Wonderful app
Searching is a useless nightmare. Navigating gets you lost without hope of return. Have to close app and start over. Just get on your computer and use the website. Save results to your Favorites and then you can use this app to watch films. That's about all it's good for.
Nothing more than a wrapper for the official website that spams your notifications with self-promotion ads on a daily basis. It does books as promised, but lacks movies, TV and music that are available on the website. Bookmark the official version instead. It has more features and doesn't hit you with daily ads.
Does not work well, though better then the site does, on the site nothing ever loads, though with the app you can't search anything without it saying no results found though clearly that's not the case, the search seems to only fit the criteria of the site, meaning only in their keywords can you find the section, though not the exact item, though it's okay, it's a good app.
The interface could be a lot better, it's basically the web version, but put into an app. There are quite a bit of full screen ads almost every time you tap something. It's not absolutely awful, but it's not much better than the web version.
This is an absolute mess. Tried to read a book. It's just a web interface, but considerably worse. The zoom button is on top of the page navigation button. It doesn't load to the appropriate resolution. The pinch to zoom functionality only works sporadically. Don't waste you're time with this app.
Keeps crashing, ads stall have to close app to get ads to close, wish there was a way to keep a list of books so I could come back and choose when I want to read them. Always have to continually search for them. All in all a so-so app.
Sharing only shares links to the app & not the item you're trying to share. I love the archives ever since I discovered the Live Music Archives section that I can post all the live music I record. I always have to go to the actual item page & copy the url directly before I can share by pasting it into a message or post.
Rubbish, this is literally a lazy wrapper to the official website with a useless search. When you go to an article on the, say, the software site, you actually search using the webpage. Developers are simply cashing in on the app's ads for a popular website. Use the website itself and save yourself the pain of the whole experience. Plus, The Internet Archive doesn't have any ads.
there are lots of ads. I love that I can find the books I'm reading, and they keep you place where you're reading. I'm very thankful to have this app. I wish that the "buttons" werw bigger and that it was easier to get to your favorites. I'm fairly new to the app, so it's possible that I still need to play around with it to figure everything out.
Terrible interface. Can't seem to access any of archived films or television. When a third, unaffiliated party makes a simplistic app that's better than the official app (*cough* Open Resources *cough*), you know you've done a bad job. Not worth keeping. Uninstalling.
The number of full screen ads is ridiculous. I often get dragged out of the app by these annoying ads popping up while I am clicking. The ads on the bottom of the screen should be enough, but someones greedy.
I use the internet version for reading, and the selection is pretty good. They don't have everything, but for free it's nice. What I dislike is waiting on the slowest readers. I can finish in a day or two even with school and work. But then again, it's free, so I'll give it 4 stars.
Horribly designed. Ads everywhere. A confusing selection of choices greets you with no relationship to the non-mobile site. a search on the web site gives you a result. The same search on the app does not. Useless for me.
Poor app. Too many annoying ads, and the search feature is confusing. Also hard to properly filter items. It is better to run this from your browser.
Installed and was then directed to pay for an adfree version on the book reader. As soon as I opened up the 'adfree' book reader, I got an advertisement! I uninstalled but still can't get to the mythical ad free version. Disappointing.
It's okay. Pretty crowded and could do with bigger space dedicated to reading even in full screen mode. Having said that the availablity of books is awesome.
Lots of good vontent, but the app kind of sux. Best to download a file and read it in Adobe Digital Editions. It would sure be nice if you could sync it up directly to a Kindle.
Slow to respond. maybe it's the connection but there us no way to tell. Suggest some sort of indicator so I don't have to keep tapping and wondering what is going on. Also ads are obnoxious. Suggest a pay feature to remove ads.
Does not adapt to Smart Phones as well as it should. Fine besides the scree ratio problems. It is hard to get a readble page without zooming in and adding a toggle bar which is annoying. Fullscreen is not large enough with the bottom ads and OL index on the top
Could be a little better organized. But I love the Internet Archive and everything they do, and the content they provide is well worth the clunky navigation
Finding and discovering hard to find items. Great trips down Memory Lane. This represents true perspectives, especially to those who were unborn at certain times.
Very glichy. Screen hangs a lot. Download doesn't work. Difficult to navigate. Can't find books I checked out.. Most of the screen space is completely wasted.
Jumbled, confusing, and omitting large portions of the actual Internet Archive. I've used the Internet Archive for over a decade to enjoy vast libraries of classic movies, television and radio shows, comic books, and much more. This app launches a menu with no logical order to seperate books, audio content, videos, etc. Much of the content available on the site can not be accessed through the app, and what can seems to be found as much by happenstance as opposed to any understandable structure.
