Very functional, one of the best. It has one sub-optimal feature though. What I mean is: when I type IPA in say French, I need ʁ the most, butthat symbol is in the "r" submenu, and it is cumbersome to always open the drop menu for extra symbols (very slow and tiresome). It would be helpful if the symbol would be ready for quick one-tap access for better workflow, and for that I need to be able to create a templates for a language so I can type it faster. I'd even buy that as an extra feature 😉.
I love this keyboard. It makes it very convenient to enter phonetic symbols, and even confirm that I remember their sound values. It even has a paɡe with mathematical symbols. Only one problem drives me nuts with it. The enter is in the place where all my other keyboards have the backspace, so when I want to delete something, I accidentally submit it instead. Maybe the backspace and enter could be moved down a row or two? (Also please check the alternate characters in the tone and quote pages?)
I changed my review. On a previous version, and a previous phone, the app did not work properly. The developer wrote me back after making changes and asked me to check it out. I got the app on my new phone and it works exactly as originally expected. I can now use my phone keboard to supply IPA transcriptions of words in several languages. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, developers!
Very good keyboard, could add more customizabilities though, especially when I don't see any difference between "pro" version and the normal one. I wish I could turn off the pop-up words, they could be really annoying sometimes. And the height of the keyboard should be adjustable.
This is a good application. It is very useful. However, I would recommend the creator of this app to add the audio version of the different phonemes that are on the keyboard such as the velar nasal consonant / ŋ / , the mid central vowel / ə / etc. This will ease the learning of these phonemic symbols. As a linguist, I think it is a good instructional tool. But lay persons may find these phonemes difficult to understand without sounds.
I downloaded it and enabled it, but I can' switch keyboards, there are no options to toggle IPA keyboard. I use an LG Stylus 2, I have to go to settings and manually switch the keyboards. It's clanky and inconvenient. It work perfectly in my old phone but not here. Please fix it.
[Samsung S10+] It won't show up in my keyboard options after enabling and restarting phone. It works fine on a coworker's phone so it seems like it's a device compatibility issue. Your applications should at least work with flagship phones, sorry.
Used to be the best IPA keyboard on the market and I've bought the upgrade for it. With the newest update it has become even less useable: now the top row simply goes out of the left edge of the window, and in landscape mode it instantly crashes upon long press.
Been a great app. A minor issue is that somehow typographical variants like "dotless j" and "dotless i" is available without the Pro Version but actual symbols like the Voiceless Uvular Fricative, Voiced Epiglottal Fricative and Epiglottal Stop is not? Not to mention the fact that the Click series is entirely absent.
Edit: I have some ideas for new features for future updates! -The ability to change the color of the keyboard, for example red, blue, etc. -Superscript variants of all letters doesn't require IPA Keyboard Pro. -Add favorite characters by holding characters in the IPA symbol selecter. -Upside-down ʔ is avalible for free. -Greek setting so all greek letters are available. -Optional English to IPA system. -Pre-made emoticons -Clicks get their own character spot on the main keyboard I'm not saying this is a bad keyboard, in fact it's amazing. These are just ideas that would be cool in my opinion.
I am generally quite pleased with this tool and its content, however I am left wondering why on some choices about the paywall. Chi is unavailable as well as some epiglottals and a few others quite common in noneuropean languages, preventing basic representation of these languages. This is a kind of censorship; troubling to say the least. Additionally, I can't find a single thing about your privacy policy, so I do not feel safe leaving it on, increasing difficulty of use. Please address this!
Doesn't work with messenger, disqus, or really anything - and I enabled the keyboard. I can copy-paste from Wikipedia the symbols I need, but I'd rather type it. Oh well. Update: Appears to be a phone issue (Samsung), so I'll upgrade stars to 3 since I can only assume it works on other phones.
Buggy, Low Effort To start, too many IPA symbols are locked unless you pay for the premium version; common sounds too. To add to that, after a few days the keyboard crashes and makes it so you can't even switch to your other keyboards. Making for a frustrating experience.
Okay... So when I try to enter tones with the accents e.ɡ.̂ , an Arabic letter appears instead of the modified tone! Other than that, this application is AWESOME!
Givinɡ this five stars because it deserves it. My one request is that /i/ and /u/ be offered as alternate /iː/ and /uː/ with diacritical marks already in place, as commonly shown in many IPA-Enɡlish tranliterations. Five plus stars (whatever that means) if you did that! Or...ɡive the ː mark as a selection on the same screen as the characters that use them.
Wow , what I asked for , but it deosnt provide a tutorial for using it . It may have word error corrector but I couldnt find it . And comma and fullstop must be with alphabet keypad screen. Instead , those are with symbol and no. screen . 'G' in alphabets spaces before it like ' usin g'.These are some problems . Otherwise multiply , divide and other symbols are helpful and greek letters are too helpful
it doesn't have autocorrect automatically, the comma is two clicks away from the main set of letters, and it keeps sayinɡ 'voiced alveolar plosive' every time I try to write anythinɡ, clutterinɡ the screen. too doffocult to useʔ also, ʔ sits where the full stop should be ʔ
It works well aside from not havinɡ punctuation close by if you ever need to use it as a regular keyboard and that you have to pay for some symbols without an option for them to not show up.
Literally wouldn't even let me use it to see if it was worth it or not. From the rest of the reviews, clearly this isn't a problem for everyone, but on my Galaxy S9 Plus it won't even show up as an option for a keyboard. Deleted.
When I'm enabling this app This message is shown to me IPA Keyboard"? IPA Keyboard" may collect all your inputs, including passwords, credit card information, and other personal information. Still use it? Is this app safe?
I'd like to ask you to remove the keys that need Upgrade for typing from the unpaid version. It is a huge distraction in case you hit them accidently.
I heard a lot about this app that is good and other things, but I have an issue and I would really like if you help me.i just wanted to enable it and use it.i restarted my phone but it's not working at all.. :(
Quite well and easy to handle it. I hope it next update will bring more attractive features for ease usage.
Its controls sub-par, there's almost no customization options, and so many important diacritics are locked behind a paywall.
nice app...but there is no option of subscript and superscript of Substract '-' and addition '+' for chemistry and math. please add...i am usinɡ a paid version.
Unable to switch to this keyboard at all. I have the keyboard enabled, restarted my phone, but there's no way to use it.
Most characters I needed required the upgrade right away. It was very invasive as well.
NOT SAFE!!!!! This app collects text that you type, such as credit card info and passwords. BE CAREFUL.
It's incredibly useful, the only thing I think could use some improvement is the animations of the keyboard. I type quickly, and having to slow down or remove and correct text because of the spacing of the keys and the movements can be frustrating. (Granted, it could also be because I'm used to using a default keyboard.) But otherwise it's fantastic, great way to learn. Thanks :)
