Iron Tracker - Hemochromatosis

Iron Tracker provides graphical tools to deepen understanding of hemochromatosis treatment. This genetic disorder is characterized by over absorption of dietary iron, leading to dangerously high iron levels. If left untreated this can cause many systemic problems, from fatigue, pain and generally poor wellness to severe damage and disease of the liver, heart and other organ systems. Treatment is performed through regular therapeutic phlebotomies, the drawing of a patient’s blood, and is monitored through blood samples tracking hemoglobin and ferritin, an iron-bearing protein found throughout the body.
The Iron Tracker App gives patients a single place where treatment and life-long progress can be tracked, combining appointment management with tracking and visualization of bodily hemoglobin and ferritin values, providing a clear visualization of this data to better understand and share progress with friends, family and physicians. The app also tracks phlebotomy appointments and details, helping patients manage their lifestyle and wellness.

This application has been developed by faculty and students at two Canadian Universities led by Dr. G. Grewal of the University of Guelph, and Dr. A. Hamilton-Wright of Mount Allison University.

Many, many thanks to the various students who have worked on this project: Andrew D'Angelo, Jiexin Frank Liu, John Carter, Sarah van der Laan and Thomas Alexander.

Not all that useful. If you could include more test results, like transferin, T iron binding cap, %sat, wbc, rbc, vb12 and more. There are alot of blood work tests that are done when they are looking. So a way to enter this information would he great. Also it woild be good for us to up the entire number into the entry(7.9 or 2.2) thisnis important. Would be good if there was a way to enter information regarding if we got a blood transfusion and how much and an iron infusion and how much.

Great app! Highly recommended I'm actively involved in keeping my medical records so this app fits my purpose. Work on those updates and suggestions by previous reviewers. Also, I'm interested in having this on a lap top or desk top? Hope this can be part of the updates.

Overall I like the app but there are a few things that I wish were added like being able to enter in the TIBC, UIBC, Iron serum, and Iron saturation along with the transferrin and ferritin. Since those levels are important.

This app is a great tool for those with iron overload and even for those with an iron deficiency. Great job on the recent update. Thanks so much for this. IN ADDITION: It would be great if there was some sort of cloud back up and sync to multiple devices. I recently had to change phones and had to re-input all my numbers. Luckily I maintain hard copies of my blood work as well as a duplicate on my tablet.

I downloaded this for my friend and the hemoglobin entry needs one more decimal place of precision. Right now you can only enter in whole numbers. Will comment more later on after some more data can be entered. Looks like an excellent program!!!

I'm gastroenterologist. I have two patients that get it and it runs smoothly, is well design, easy to understand and is a great tool in the management and follow up of my patients. They are excited to follow their progress in their smartphones and they are happy not to carry a tons of lab results to the office. Great job!

There is nowhere to record saturation. May of us have normal or below normal ferritin but are still overloaded with iron. Without a saturation this is not accurate.
