Not updated for over a year. Spotify has recently disappeared from the list, the Music app is redundant as is the Contacts app, the car/phone take care of those functions, the Memo app has disappeared, but then that never worked in the first place, and the Calendar app doesn't have much use anyway. There are 2 (expensive) navigation apps (why would you need more, and why are the better than the one in the car?). No common Android apps at all. All in all a complete waste of electrons!
Connectivity is flaky, at best, non-existence at worst and also locks the phone out when connected via the USB. Very limited number of apps (14 at the time of this review), 3 of which are SatNav apps (none of which work properly) and most of the rest pretty uninspiring. The only real use is for Spotify. There are also problems with the volume difference between the main media functions and bluetooth. Jaguar should stick to building cars and not dabbling in apps, especially when there are perfectly good solutions off the shelf (e.g. Android Auto and Apple Car Play). This app is not worthy of a premium brand and lets the whole car package down badly.
Limited number of compatible apps lets this down. There have not been any new apps added for quite some time but some have been withdrawn. With Tom Tom and Spotify apps being discontinued, without any real reasons given, there's little point in using this app. If Jaguar put some effort into developing this app and adding more compatible apps then using this could be a much better experience. Very annoyed with removal of Spotify, so downgraded rating to 1 star.
Unfortunately 1 star rating is lowest. This has only 8 apps. None which add any real value to my driving experience. Since I first installed and uninstalled , I reinstalled to see if any improvement. Number of apps has even been reduced. It seems to be developed purely for the sake of advertising, to say we have an incontrol app. Useless and was a waste of my time trying it out.
Have to say the choice of apps on here are absolutely abysmal, this is a waste of space really. Would be a much better app if I could choose what I'd like to use when connected through this, like Waze or Google Maps, Spotify - although that's been removed now, soundcloud etc... Will be uninstalling until I hear of a significant improvement of the app.
On my car Spotify crashes the system in the car, displaying only a black screen when Incontrol Apps is selected and not recovering until the car is turned off and on. TomTom have failed to keep their app up to date, it doesn't work with Android 9 This is an awful system (made by Bosch and called mySpin), JLR knows it and Android Auto has replaced it in newer models. Better to use in-built sat nav and Bluetooth did music.
This app is useless with useless applications. Nothing in it is worth using. It hasn't been updated since 2019 and no one looks at any of the comments on here. You can't reach anyone to complain about it. The developers email is no longer valid. My conclusion is, Jaguar has abandoned the entire app. Truly sad and says a lot!
Jaguar you are so close with this one! in my opinion this has the potential to be better than both mirrior link and Android connect! I hate the skins on both, Jaguar Apps is clean and the spotify controls are much better than both the aformentioned Apps. This app is just missing one thing and that messaging connectivity. If i could add whattsapp, messanger and my phones messaging system i would give this 5 stars.
The USB only connectivity and lack of supported apps don't really make this App an essential requirement for the owners of a Jaguar vehicle. The only reason I have used this App in the past is down to the availability of Spotify but now that seems to have been removed leaving only a poor selection of paid for premium or not very useful apps. Will be unlikely to use this app again and n the future and will most likely uninstall.
The only useful thing was spotify, they have removed support for this which makes the inControl apps pretty useless. I believe it works on new models of jag. However I have a 97plate xe, it worked before its 2nd service where they updated the in car software, since then it doesn't work and no going back 🤨🙁
Useless. I thought this might be a way to replace the awful and out-of-date (the most recent maps are over 3 years old) satnav on my 4 yo XE, but it isn't. Previously, it let me load SygicAuto but not use it; now I can't even get that far - the car just displays a "hardware not supported" message.
Does Jaguar really think that this is a useful set of apps? Where are the promised: "A variety of approved vehicle optimised apps such as: Contacts, Calendar and Music Player will be available, with more third party vehicle optimised apps becoming compatible over time for a continually fresh and personal user experience."?? I totally agree with the other reviewers here. Come on Jaguar - lets have some replies to the criticism - or preferably some better more useful apps.
Totally Rubbish, can't use navigation app as you can't buy premium edition as app doesn't work in UK. All other apps are totally useless as well. Come on JLR update the app. I have a 2017 XF, what other 4yr old car doesn't have Android Auto or Apple car Play as standard. Should have gone for BMW 5 series. Would have given 0 stars but unfortunately 1 is the minimum.
Very poor, just like all other reviews, app does not work. Very basic, phone has to be connected and unlocked, Spotify will only work in offline mode at best, which you may as well just use Bluetooth for. Please fix this.
Would rate 0 if possible. No Bluetooth support, no Google maps, no audible, in fact, as I've been a smartphone user since 2007 and I've never used one of these apps except Spotify. Really poor show and explains why jag are so behind with in car technology.
Since the last update whereby you have removed the spotify app it basically renders this useless. Even the cheapest cars on the market today have the ability to run spotify through the media system and control all aspects of that app.
The only decent app was Spotify which was removed on 30th Sept 2019. Now completely useless! Infotainment is a big tick for me when choosing a car and Jaguar is such a let down. There is no consideration given to the customer and miles behind rivals. Sorry Jaguar, next car will definitely not be one of yours!
Since removing Spotify, which was the only useful app that JLR allowed has made this app a very poor app indeed. Not to mention the lack of development in making more apps available such as Google maps, Waze etc. It is clear that JLR has focused on their Touch Pro system and not accommodate for those with the standard Touch system which is very disappointing!!
Awfull it gives you access to a collection of useless paid for apps. The one worth having was Spotify and now for some reason that has stopped working through it. Edit- Jaguar have clearly now abandoned this eco system and the cars that use it ( my car is only 2 years old!) Shocking service from jaguar.
Connection problems - takes many attempts to connect phone to car..maybe works 1 in 6 attempts...Added to that the choice of compatible apps is very poor and the majority of those that do work are only free for a limited period of time....
As close to Android auto as I can get in my F type, but the lack of Waze,or even Google Maps support is bloody silly. I love the app for the Spotify support. Shame it isn't wireless though. Using a Note 8.
This app and the InControl Touch model infotainment system used to be passable because at least it had Spotify. That app just dissapeared from the selection of seven total apps available. Jaguar could have at least worked with Google to add an Android Auto app to InControl before abandoning Jaguar owners with a car that's still under factory warranty.
Rubbish. Two and a half year and still can't get a version to work. This one states that it can not be installed if Land Rover's version is present. IT ISN'T! This after going through all the installation Q and A. School boy programming errors. Only found out last month Android Auto will not work on pre 2019 motors too. Back to BMW's next time.
Shockingly bad how few apps there are to choose from. You would think they'd want to make it better with android auto and apple play out there, but don't seem to care. Been trying for 3 years to get a sat nav update from them too with no joy. If they're not going to update it then why not add Google maps to this app, as the 2 they have available cost a fortune. Plus why have spotify on it then take it off? Last jaguar I'll be buying too as they don't keep the spec up to date.
so difficult to use, limited apps, you have to plug in to the USB and unlock your phone. it is only marginally better than a 1980s dial up modem! come on Jaguar, I spent over £80,000 on an F Type and this is what you get!!! very disappointing.
Laughably poor. It's like using a Nokia 5110. I had a Ford Ranger before the Jaguar and it was leaps and bounds above the level of this. 7 apps to choose from, one of them doesn't work in the UK. I had more choice on the appstore of my Blackberry back in 15 years ago. Wouldn't buy another Jag in a hurry.
As of 30th Sept 2019 they have withdrawn Spotify from in control apps. Well done Jaguar this was the only useful app for the car and i used it every day. I will be spending my money elsewhere in future. Even the cheapest city car can control spotify these days!
Absolutely horrendous! Trys to reconnect to the car every millisecond it's hooked up. This in turn renders the phone useless and you cant even charge it in the car if your using it for directions because as I said it locks your phone down with a flickering trying to connect screen of some sort. I would give it no stars if it allowed me.
