Japan Trains

Japan Trains is the first application for Android in Romaji that allows us to find train routes and schedules in Japan, in the vein of: Hyperdia, Jorudan...
If you cannot find desired station, you can use % character as wildcard. For example: AZA%BAN will display AZABU-JUBAN station. SHIN%KOBE will display SHIN-KOBE...

Important: Hyperdia has changed stations names, so it is necessary to upgrade. No support will be given unless you upgrade the application to the latest version.

I thought that going to the hyperdia website would be enough, but this app is just so easy to use. I love the send to calendar feature, which was broken in the previous version, but quickly fixed by the developer. Some suggestions: -I just wish you could add your monthly subsidy into the equation for more accurate accounting. -First and last train for the day, just like the Hyperdia app

The app works really well. Very straight forward and helps plan your route fairly well. However, it requires an internet connection in order to work which essentially makes it useless when I need it most. If I have an internet connection, I can just look up the route on Google Maps. This app needs offline support in order to actually be useful.

Bern absolutely vital to my travel around Japan, has all the major rail lines and even a lot of the smaller private ones as well. Have not found a station it didn't have yet. Just wish you could get more information on some lines, like how many stops the train has before yours, and/or a list of the stations so you know what the ones before it are

3 days into my holiday in Japan and this app had been incredibly useful. It has saved me so much time wandering around wondering where to go. With little effort I'm navigating through Tokyo like a local. The exporting to calendar is really useful for journeys with multiple transfers.

This was a great app when I could use it. It was fast and only had 1 mistake or of the hundreds of times I've used it. It even had routes Google missed. However, I haven't been able to use it since getting my new phone. When I press search, it brings me back to a blank search screen. So, 5 stars for when I could use it, 0 for now.

It's broken ... the one best train app for Japan. This is catastrophic. I've used it for two trips. Specifically, when you enter the start and end points, NOTHING comes up. This is REALLY depressing. Note: I see this app hasn't been updated in years. I expect that it no longer works on current Android.

This app is God sent. Not only it tells you the quickest way from one station to another anywhere in Japan, it also tells you which way brings you there earliest, and suggests the alternate routes. Also provides fare information and platform number where available. I was dependent on this app during my stay in Japan. The only glitch I faced was a misreported departure time. Looks like Hyperdia database is to blame though.

This App is good to check which train service and fastest route to take. The short coming is that may does not show Nozomi Shinkansen (Bullet) train as the fastest route to go from 1 city to another. Only sakura train is shown. The app will receive full star from me if all possible fast trains service was shown.

I'll be going to Japan so I downloaded this app. I tested this app to see if it matches the schedules shown by Hyperdia. All the train schedules in my itinerary are correct with this app except one: I'll be going from Hachinohe to Ueno on May 24 at around 15:00. Hyperdia gives me Shinkansen at 15:06 which goes to Ueno by Hayabusa. However, this app does not show this train. Don't know why. Could the developer try to find out and correct anything wrong.

Used it on my trip to Tokyo last year, super efficient in finding the cheapest/fastest route with the least changes to my destination, can't recommend it enough! (get the suica/related cards to make travelling even easier as you won't be restricted to just the JR loop)

This app was very helpful on our 2 week trip from Osaka to Tokyo & Kamakura. Our travel to every destination was easy & fast most especially when we planned ahead by taking express trains (no stop from pt. A to B) saved us a lot of time. Can't wait to use this app next week when we explore Kanagawa & Fukuoka. #Happyuser

Excellent app to use...checking every rail JR and private. Accurate and fast. Only problem is the every time have to enter names of stations in departure and arrival boxes. Does not save the previously entered info after going back. No saved route or search histories. With those fixed...it would be an easy 5 star.

It used to work on my phone Samsung s7 plus like a charm. But it does not work anymore. After typed in the stations and search. It just cleared all I have typed and no search result :( So sad, I have to take much longer time to look at other alternative means ;( Without this problem, I would give it a 10 stars out of 5 tho

Needs updates for the two new shinkansen lines to Kanazawa and Hakodate. For the rest, it is awesome. What it can't do, is include all trains you can use with a Japan Rail Pass, but that is because Hyperdia (the engine used) has been screwing that up since 2010.

This app is one of the most useful apps ever. I'd pay for it if it wasn't free! This made our Japan holiday easier because we had all the info we needed for getting around, especially getting the most out of our JR pass. For those complaining about not having access offline, plan your day ahead and just screeshot the route!

I love this app. But the map only shows Japan at the center of the world. It's so far out it doesn't list cities. I can also find no way to send a route to my calendar. Once these problems are fixed I can easely give this app 5 stars.

Dus. D. Apr 6, 2016

It finds the routes I'm looking for and presents them in a clean and readable way. There is no charge for searching shinkansen that JR pass holders are restricted to. Sunrise Trains also come up in the results when I filter for them, which is something the other app had problems with. It's a great app.

Used it every day while I was in Japan. Simple and fast. Some settings are not that obvious (like memorising your last search - which is off by default, but can be turned on in Settings/History ) Wish there was a way to turn on/off individual rail/ metro providers (to accommodate daily tickets in Tokyo) Overall great app, so thank you!

This was a great app until a while ago but right now it is not working at all and desperately needs an update. Prior to that it would easily have been 5 stars with ease of use and info given. For those traveling to Japan the best option now is to simply use the Hyperdia website to search train routes

Great app, with a much better interface than Hyperdia, and the ability to pull up your recent searched offline without having to re-search (something Hyperdia can't do). I wonder if the train information is up to date though? The app has not been updated in 3 years now, and maybe trains have changed schedules since then? So far, it's been very accurate, but I worry now... Could use a small fix to remove the   in the "for " lines under the train line name. That line is cut off by 1-2 pixels also, and sometimes it's missing completely, but the same text shows up on Hyperdia's website, so it's probably in the database.

A. G. u. Jul 13, 2017

Not too bad. It doesn't remember time and date, ever. When typing a station name and switch to and back from another app, station names are reset. First screen is therefore terrible. After that it's okay (but not brilliant).

Awesome app! Train information are accurate and it even calculates walking time when transiting between train lines. This app had been a total life saver during my stay in Japan. The only thing I disliked was that the search history doesn't really work for me and it does not show my searched stations when I press back so I have to retype the station name all over again. I also needed sometime to get used to seeing the 'lane' since the font is so small.

A. G. u. Feb 25, 2018

I put in a basic search between 2 stations and nothing happens, except typed stations disappear I'm using Samsung Note 3. Don't understand why it doesn't work

Requires data, but very useful for finding a route at the last minute. Easier to navigate than the Web site on a phone

Jan. K. May 24, 2014

I tried to check train route from Kitakashiwa to Komuro but this says it cannot find Komuro station. I don't recommend this.
