It cannot give me the route to Tama Station, the first route I searched for. No, I don't want to go to Tamagawa, etc, I want to go to Tama Station.
A really great app! The transport features are a huge help, it shows exactly how to get where you need to go. Just one thing that could be improved; it would be great to be able to select a JR pass option when you are making a plan, not just inthe route search. If there was a way to do that it would be 10/10, but as it is would still reccomend to anyone!
I came with my parents as tourists to Japan. We had been facing some non-trivial issues as to how to use the highly advanced public transit system in a foreign country. But with the help of this app, we were eventually able to surpass our difficulties, and were able to enjoy our tour. Anything less than 5 stars would be a serious understatement about this public transit system, and the app as well.
We travelled on public transport from Fukuoka in the south west to Hokkaido over 2 weeks and our confidence in the app grew every day. The platform numbers for the trains was especially useful. And now I've found the History and Planning tool! (although I still have to figure out the latter.) We also like the fact that it factors in the JR Pass that we are using. We haven't used attractions etc, but only because are visiting friends rather than sightseeing.
This app is fabulous and indispensable when planning a public transport journey in Japan. It however would be great if the search option had "via" for origination and destination, just as its original Japanese edition cousin. Without this via entry box, the search results can be poor. A better route you get in the Japanese edition using the via box cannot be obtained in this English edition by the lack of the via box.
Great apps. But, there are some cons that I found so far: 1. If you reduce some first trip days, it only can cut the the last itinerary days. So, all itineraries that already made will shift to the number of days cut afterwards. There is no option to cut the first days, so, the itineraries already made still remain on the dates. 2. No date shifting feature to move all your day itinerary to another day.
Just brilliant! After a trip around Japan I can advise that if you are intending to use trains and buses then you absolutely need to get this app. It also allows you to prioritize trips available with your Japan Rail Pass. Contains a great range of articles on a wide range of places and activities. This surely is the Gold standard of travel apps.
Really nice. One suggestion would be to give the app some kind of memory. For example it's annoying to have to reenter information and then scroll down when I'm going to the same 5 places each week. I'd say that's one area where Google maps still wins out
So disappointed! 😓 Google map is far more useful! This app does not tell the train line, only station name. It is not useful & is confusing for new people. The developers seem to have not usability tested the product at all; certainly not with new to Japan visitors.
That was a great app before updated. Now it says 'cannot search a route because you're too far' every time. Even though embedded map shows my position correctly. Even though I search a route between two stations so my position is not required. App became useless because of this bug.
This app saved me from being stranded in between Kyoto and Nagoya by providing accurate train timings that Google doesn't have. Love the new update which adds automatic trip planning. I wish all countries had apps like these. It would be even better if I could share a plan with my friends who are also travelling with me.
Easy to use however you have to pay for step by step navigation if you are walking somewhere. Also if you have a jr pass and search with pass priority this app will have you walking an hour instead of recommending a bus/train that isn't covered by the pass. So it is either pass or no pass travel. I personally would like a combination of pass travel and pay travel options, whichever is the fastest and/or cheapest.
Once you're slightly familiar with the railways and you have your JR pass this app was awesome. I used it the most along with Google maps to find routes that utilized the JR pass (not all subway lines accept it). You can save trips you search frequently. Used it a ton for our first trip to Japan!
An absolute must for those wanting the get the most out of there JRPass. Works best if you also have Google maps since the walking directions leave a lot to be desired. Traveled by train for 2 weeks over hundreds of kilometers and the app was 100% accurate each time.
Absolutely recommend it whenever you're going to Japan. This app is perfect for commuting in and around the major cities by train. It also gives you a fair estimate of how much your taxi fare would cost. Great travel app overall!
It helps when I travel in Japan. But comparing with my Japanese friend. I found the search results in English version are different from and not as good as Japanese version, normally don"t include the best routes which Japanese version has.
Looks great for planning a holiday. Only confusion is JR Pass. This App shows the best information I can find for train travel. Sometimes you have to pay extra, BUT how do you find that? Would be nice to explain how to read the itinerary and where the additional costs are shown or identified. IF anyone can help, Id appreciate the help.
Was really fast and convenient route map but latest update added a bunch of other information I don't find useful. Route lookup isn't even the default tab. 3/26 edit: They added back the color coding on the train routes.
This app made my first ever trip to Japan as easy as it could be, given how reliant you will be on trains whilst you're there. You can adjust the departure time, it tells you which station, what platform you need to go to, how much the ticket will cost! Slightly over estimates walking time so you're never in a rush. I loved it so much, I showed other tourist I met in Japan the app
Good app, with limitations. The options don't have a 'travelling on JR railpass' button. This means you can't find timetable information on eligible Shinkansen It always defaults to Nozomi. The app also doesn't provide walking instructions. I found I had to use this along with Google maps.
Excellent for traveling around Japan. We got to all of our stations perfectly. It even let us put in our passes so that it could search for routes that wouldn't cost us much. All in all great app to download for a person that gets lost easily
We have just spent four weeks travelling all overJapan by train and bus and we could not have managed without this fantastic app. So accurate and easy to use, if you are heading to Japan don't go without this. It's invaluable!
great app , excellent navigation options. And I love the quick list of conversational item. however only the greeting section has English, written japanese, and pronunciation (for english). it would be great if the rest of the section like hotel
Good application for travelling in japan by train. However, there are lack of some information for some routes. For example, platform number, car number that are reserved or go to other destination.
This app was very handy for my first time travelling in Japan. I bought a JR Pass and you can customise your travel options on the app to include routes that utilise the pass/other passes you can purchase. It also gives you fare prices which was great. Highly recommend if you are using public transport frequently in Japan!
Update for EU citizens: Because of GDPR the app devolopers decided to cancel login and so saving collections for people living in EU. As I moved onto a new mobile device I lost all my collected places. Still, this app is very useful for people traveling in Japan. I have been in Japan multiple times and still will use this app as it helps finding places and commuting. I removed one star because of the login topic.
