JB Workaround Cloud Contacts

This is just a workaround app for a bug in Android 4.1 (alias Jelly Bean). See http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34880 for details.
Info for Samsung users: at present you'll need this app too, see http://developer.samsung.com/forum/board/thread/view.do?boardName=GeneralB&messageId=232748

Under Android 4.4.2 it's recommended to install this app as well. There is a new issue in Android that causes accounts to be removed during an app update, see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=66905

The bug causes accounts of paid apps to be removed when Android boots up. To work around this issue this app pretends to provide the same account type that SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts provides. That's enough to convince Jelly Bean to keep the account.

That's all this app does.

Please open the app at least once from within Google Play to "enable" the workaround. It may not work properly otherwise. On some devices you'll have to install this app before you install SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts. Please try that if you still have problems.

Also, to hand over the account to SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts the workaround disables itself for a couple of seconds.

Please note that the bug is in Android 4.1, not in SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts!

If you're not using SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts on Jelly Bean, you don't need this app. There is no need to give it a bad rating in that case! Please don't install it in that case.

I used this on my galaxy tab, worked great. Now it ruined "whipped out" my contacts on my samsung s5 and also in my icloud. I realize there's a change in the contacts app, but it's there gonna be an update anytime soon??

This used to work flawlessly keeping my Note II, Macbook Air, and iPad all synced. Lately, my contacts in my Note II keep disappearing forcing me to have to login with my iCloud password and then wait forever while it repopulates. Please fix this. 5/13/13 thanks for the update. It is working again. Great app!

It synced only a small portion of my contacts and then stopped. After syncing it again, it does nothing.

I really appreciate this fix. I have been an iPhone user since day 1. My first time using Android with Xperia Z. Thanks again for fix.

Used to work perfectly.... now it doesn't work at all... EDIT: Yep, your update has fixed everything. SmoothSync is back to the amazing app it used to be, cheers!

I have been using the Smoothsync for both Contacts and Calendar to sync my PC, iPad and Galaxy Note II. I had to also install the JB add on and then all was great. The last month my Contact sync stops and literally deletes itself. I have to go in almost daily to re-enter my login info and have it sync. A must after a restart and randomly for no reason it just deletes the account. Not sure what changed but please fix. I end up with 95% contacts I can't access.

I can finally give this product a great review...Biggest problem I had was that once my phone was shut down all my calendar info was erased and I had to enter my account info again...the jb workaround bug fix solved everything! Highly recommend this product...works very well.

Used to work for me before. But recently, everytime I reboot, I have to re-enter my account ID to re-sync. JB workaround is installed, opened from playstore as instructed. :( Not sure if i've done anything wrongly. Running on 4.1.1. Love the Smoothsync for contacts!

This patch is essential if you use smooth sync on JB or you lose sync when you reboot.
