Jiminy does a wonderful job of helping us to help our kids navigate through the tricky terrain that is kids on mobile phones. Like any good parenting tool, it doesn't replace honest conversation. But it does ensure no one is taking advantage of a child's inexperience, and that our kids are growing into smart, thoughtful, healthy mobile (and digital) users.
this app has been useful in trying to keep my son safe in having his own phone and maintaining some of his privacy i like the features it has and it's good to have peace of mind with it. Update: this app went from free to paid subscription, i understand things cost money to maintain but perhaps the option to remain free with ads would have been useful
I am a parent who has only had this service a short period of time. Unfortunately, an app he downloaded to use for messaging somehow slipped through and I thought he was safe. That wasn't the case. He was having sexting, and sometimes violent conversations with a "cult" bi this app. I have unsubscribed because this truly needs to be a feature in this app. There are way too many loopholes. He will soon have nothing but a flip phone.
I like this app, it does what it says kind of. I don't get notices about what my daughter is doing but I can scan her phone. I would like to see an option where both parents can monitor one child. I also have an inactive child account that I can't delete. That would be helpful. My favorite thing is all the negative reviews from kids. It's wild!
Jiminy has been amazing. I was very unsure about giving my 9 y.o her first phone and even more unsure about using parental controls. Jiminy was recommended to me by a friend and I feel so comfortable using it! I know my daughter's privacy is respected but I still feel protective and in the loop. Very easy to use and highly recommended!
The app lets me know that my parents are making sure I'm not doing bad things but it eats WAY too much of my storage space. It doesn't even constitute as a viewable app. You can't open it and see what's going on so why does it need to take up so much storage space? I find it highly unnecessary with the storage it takes up. If you can, please fix this.
I got it mainly for location purposes. It could tell me everything but. Everytime I would scan location it would always tell me unable to locate child, even when I know for a fact my son was on his phone. Would not recommend for someone who wants to know where there child is.
This app has been great. I love that it send messages strait to my phone wuth the information i want and need. It allows me to keep an eye on what they do without having to spend hours searching threw their phones. Kids are smart enough to delete stuff and this app tells you when they do and saves me so much time and worry. I love this app.
Beautifully designed solution to a very important problem. I'm a "free range" parent, and I love the fact that I can get insight into what my son is experiencing online while still respecting their right to privacy. I don't understand why some commenters are saying the app invades kids' privacy. They obviously haven't used it. This is no more an invasion of privacy than e.g. asking a teacher how my kid behaves at school.
App won't even work correctly for me to know if it's worth anything. You guys charge 7.99 a month for an app that doesn't work? I would have purchased it if it worked. Update: I uninstalled this app the first day I downloaded it and they still charged me a subscription fee. If the app is gone why on earth would you guys still charge my account?
I was excited when I read the description of this app. I downloaded it and went through the set up steps. At the very end it wanted my payment info. No free trial to see if I liked the app before I had to give my payment info or pay. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I am uninstalling this app
Sorry, my last review might have been a bit critical, but I still just don't think monitoring is a good idea in non-desperate circumstances if it looks mainstream, especially counting what could happen. I'll rate it 4 stars for the people it does help, but I personally don't think making it look mainstream and regular in the ad is exactly a good idea
Excellent app. Very easy to set up and use. Does what it claims without being too alarmist or annoying. Beautiful graphics and super easy to set up. I highly recommend it.
This is a great app, which helps balance kids' need for privacy with parents' need for oversight. As with anything, open communication between parents and kids is key, and no app can replace that. What this does, is make sure dangerous situations don't develop which the parents aren't aware of.
I reviewed the app and cancelled my subscription the same day. It shows my cancellation, but they have billed me for the last 4 months without my knowledge. Don't sign up. This is fraud!
This is wrong.Idk if it's this app or another, but my friend has been uncomfortable for years. His mother pays and looks at his activity and goes through his phone every often. My friend talks back to his mother a lot, only because she's always snooping and assuming the worst. Even just watching a YouTube video with swears in it. HE IS 16. parents need to learn to understand their children and accept that we're growing up. I hope you rethink this, and try to communicate instead of doing this.
I honestly think this is dumb. it says in one of there pictures that this app is used to keep your child safe and limit them from dissapering behind there phone screens. first off how are you keeping your child safe by basicly saying that spying and invading privacy is good. second off my parents dissapere behind their phone screens more than I do. and honestly it sucks to be in that situation. if you don't trust your child don't give them a phone it's that simple don't spy and invade!
I accidentally set the app on my son's phone first and it logged him as the parent. i tried to re do it on my phone and it keeps telling me that child is already registered to another parent. I cant figure it our and it's very frustrating and the messanger option doesnt let me write to ask how to fix this. !!!!!
App works as described, however I wish it was easier to ask questions! I saw an email once to send questions to and now that I have questions I can not find it. it would be much easier to be able just to message questions through fb messenger.
Excellent!. For you people complaining about your childs privacy...they are children.... they don't deserve privacy. additionally it doesn't tell you exactly everything....like all your childs text convos.... so children are still getting some type of privacy thats really not needed. if you dont want to monitor your kids then dont. but if you do. than this is a great app.
Installed and thought it would be great. Until it kept saying I needed to uninstall amd reinstall repeatedly. So I had this in my son's phone a whole 10 minutes. I can see why the rating is so low.
Was not very specific with details and with my child's behavioral problems I did not find it very useful. GPS was always wrong, it only gave names of who was talked to most in a 24 period not everyone who was messaged or called and you never know when you start and end your 24 hour period. I know not everyone believes in keeping up with child but mine has too many problems not to have details or more specific about things especially if I'm paying.
This app is an invasion of privacy and it will not get far. By enabling parents to snoop on thier children in a sneaky manner. It will cause more problems than good between the parent and child and make the living place/home a stessful and unwanted one for the child. If you value your relationship with your kids. Learn to talk to them instead of spying on them. Horrible parenting app.
Dear Jiminy Dev Team, I believe that your idea to keep kids safe and keep the parents in the know is a wonderful concept, however, this is a blatant disregard for the child's personal privacy. The whole app is basically spyware for the parent. It watches and digs through the child's device while throwing decency right out the window. Unfortunately I am only given 500 characters to use for my review, because there are many problems I would like to adress. I am sorry for all the kids.
Ive been able to stay on top of my sons activities more with this app. Unfortunatly it doesnt give you details or screen shots but it gives me enough to know when he is where he shouldnt be. Maybe give me the name of the XXX site a kid goes on would be helpful and maybe how long they were on it... But thank you for the info you do provide.
I didn't even had time to installed this into my phone because I realized really not need it.. and cancelled before the trial and now Im still being charge for it... I M not happy about this and wish I can have a phone number to call them because I M not going to paid anything that didn't even use.. and this people they should be able to tell that I didn't even download anything I m not a happy parent at this time, because they should cancelled when I requested before the trial time.
The problem with this app is bad parents. Protecting your children is something every parent should do, but this isn't a good way. Overprotective, overreligious, and harsh parents can, and most likely will, use this app to spy on their children to over protect or punish them. A child should be able to find things out and work through difficult situations on their own, and ask for help when needed. This app stops that natural discovery, thus becoming a detriment. 2 stars because it works
This app is really innovative, and wise. It honors the child's privacy and helps you make better calls. I wish there was such a "Jiminy" app for every field in life.
I have to assume that the majority of the people angry about this app are children. It is womderdul. It allows them the freedom to do as they want on line, but notifies me if anything weird happens. If they click on and adult site, if they're on it past bedtime, if they recieve a picture that is inappropriate. It doesn't tell you what the message is, just that you may need to talk about some content. As for privacy, i'm more concerned with the trashy weirdos out there who mean to do a child harm.
its very useful! It doesnt tell you exactly what your child is doing on their phone but it does give you a great broad ovetview of screentime, most used apps and alerts for the out of ordinary events like being on the phone in the middle of the night. It is not a "spy" app so if you want something more specific, this may not be for you. However, if youre looking for a screening tool to just keep an eye on the type of usage then I highly recommend it!
