I've been using this app to edit fanfics on the go for years I love it. However I have one request, can you give us the ability to input 'return' or new line within the search box? It'd really make editing documents much easier.
Recently open file dialog always sorts files by date by default but I wish to sort by name by default.
I just tried it now it's really beautiful.. 👠💜 but having that pro advertisement right under the bottom is not that attractive it's much better just the blue without such a strong advertisement to go proITS A BIT DISTRACTING BUT VERY INTELLIGENT DESIGN AND WOW WHAT AMAZING APP
A 'sticky' option for [History] >> [Recent files...]: In [Jota+ 2021.08.], I'm finding that I'm losing bits of [History] >> [Recent files...], so I need a 'sticky' option on selected files by long-pressing the files that I wish to always keep, maybe making the list double the scrollable size that it is, and by keeping those ones I've chosen to appear at the top of the list. This long-pressing action should also allow these more common [template] files, to be repositioned and ordered.
Save permissions are not enabled by default, and enabling them has no affect. I keep hoping that this will be fixed, but so far it goes through changes and it still has no file write permissions outside of loading and saving files from within the editor. It cannot be used as a default editor, and saving your text. You just get the message, Can't save file. This doesn't happen when you open the app and load the file directly, but you can't use the app as the default editor. It needs fixed!
The app is a decent text file editor. But it has its hiccups, such as messing up my text entry anytime I type after I highlight / select a word. But after finding out I can only save into the Google Drive only once per file, before needing to upgrade is a turn off for me. I don't think having to pay to be able to save into my personal cloud storage that has nothing to do with this app is worth it.
I liked the tabbed interface, convenient tools access, even the performance. What I disliked is that when I open a pre-existing text file by tapping on it (or from a shortcut, using open with ...), I can't save the edits made. If you want to save tge edits, you have to necessarily open file from within the app (which is not convenient when editing existing files) ... can't understand why it can't be implemented here, when the other text editing apps (even free ones) can do it !@??
Coming from PC text editors, it was frustrating not having Undo and other basic editing functions in Android ones. But Jota+ is a real editor, and the customizable toolbar is great! [EDIT:] Thanks for adding the (newer) long-tap-select option! I also now realize that, even though the pop-up menu doesn't appear when you tap and hold in a new or empty document, you _can_ paste into it using the "Paste" toolbar button.
The only text editor for Android that does all I need it to do including storing and opening from cloud services. Not sync, accessing files and storing them in the cloud. The look and feel is a bit "dated" but I do not care since it's like no other as far as features go.
The app is perfectly functional as a text editor, but falls short of my expectations -- when you initially open it and open a file; a multiple-minute load time when opening a file less than 2k bytes in size is incredibly slow. If you simply open the app and begin writing, there is no delay; once the first file is loaded subsequent files open with no delay; the lag when loading the first file is more annoying for being an impediment to being able to open the app and immediately work on a file.
I like it but if you are using the free version the "try pro for 30 minutes" every other time you try to save something. stopping me from saving until i hit try it and every time it does that it messes up my script if i do save it. i dont know why. also it is opening the cached copy of my file and not the one i am selecting as values are not showing that they changed when i open it. have to clear cache a lot.
It's super frustrating how the cursor and the view are repositioned constantly. It's almost impossible to just scroll around a large document to read something. Please add an option to allow the cursor to be off the screen and only snap back if I start typing. Amazing editor otherwise.
Good app, but "auto indent" doesn't work. Please fix it so that text will start indented if the previous line was intended. And: when selecting text, the screen continuously scrolls up and down a bit so that it is impossible to stay in one line. Please fix!
When I upgraded to Android 10 it didn't work at all - just hung with a blank screen. But a developer responded almost immediately to my cry for help. Turns out that clearing data and cache for the app fixed it. I'm now a happy camper again!
The best, most powerful and flexible text editor that I, an old-school typer who likes line numbers and powerful syntax formatting and decent search/replace functions, have found on Android. I've now taken it with me through three phones and I use it daily. Very happy to buy the pro key to support it
It is a very good editor, I use every day and I had buy the pro license! But I given 1 star only because after 1 year after my review I never had a feedback! It is optimum but it doesn't support: 1) FIND in FILES, like grep that can finding a word in many txt files in the same folder. and 2) the CODE FOLDING features that can group rows between bracket like {...}, see notepad++. These features are very important for all SW programmers and people that store his notes on txt files!
My go-to app. I write music and I've been using this app for years for my lyrics. It's clean, simple and straightforward. I can easily save and share files, search within files, or just drop a quick note. I have NEVER paid for it and I have NEVER had a single problem. I always recommend it when I can.
Can Not save changes to a txt file if the file is opened through a file manager, Error Message : "Can't save file". However, if the txt file is opened directly from the App (Jota+ Pro) , allows to save changes. Edit: Seems the issue is only with the txt files on SD Card.
Despite 2 updates in 2 days I still CANNOT even open a text file on Android 10. I copied the file from my Windows PC. That used to work on my Android 5 phone. Writing, saving and reopening a file on the phone DOES work. But I have to do that from the editor, I cannot open-with in the file browser.
I was a "can't save file" griper too but they do say in like bullet point 2 of the app description you have to enable this storage framework in the app's options. It's in the File section of the settings of the app. Other than, it's just an ok app.
Great app but still needs it's own keyboard or at least arrow keys & an option to turn off the standard Android selection & have a start here button & use either the added arrow keys or use certain letters to select the following word/s - lines centances or even paragraphs etc since default selection often fails or comes on accidentally & even totally messes up whatever you just done by deleting or moving selected passage especially on smaller screens where the selection markers can be impossibl
Wonderfully useful app!!! I use it with the Dropbox feature. User-configured phrases (including macros for date/time), button to quickly go to the bottom of the file, and auto-save are my most-used features.
Nice simple text editor Can be used for all your note and organisational needs. Simple productivity tool that allows you to do what ever you want. Best used with a file explorer. Remember to save your file...
I like the interface on this notepad like editor it's easy to navigate. I don't like the fact that as soon as I selected the "Try Pro" features IT IMMEDIATELY STARTS SHOWING ADS! Thanks but that just ended any chance of my purchasing the apparent ad riddled "Pro" version!
I have a lot of text files on my Windows PC that I wanted to have access to from my Samsung cell phone. The Jota+ app works perfectly for me, and integrates nicely with DropBox.
Full screen adds and unresponsive input. Goes to start of text file randomly when typing preferred jota I just want a text file editor may install vi clone (emacs has too many ctrl keys on mobile). Seemed to work almost ok for a while and liked jota the earlier version, hence 3stars.
An app with no support is useless. Unfortunately that's Jota+. Look elsewhere, there are options that are just as good and the developer will respond. For context, I have tried several times and have waited months.
EDIT: fixed the problem below by going to settings and enabling the Android file chooser. Not quite 5* for me as the interface is a bit clunky. It reminds me of a pure X-windows program. Back to being indispensable. END EDIT Was my goto text editor. Now, I can neither open nor save files. The file dialog can't even see directories, apart from goin up the tree. I wonder if it's related to it only having permission to "allow media only"?
