There is a typo with the noun 蓄電, which is described as "storage of electicity". Otherwise, extremely useful app, have been using it for a long time now and it's just so convenient and full of content. This is the first typo I have ever seen in this app, apart from that it's really doing a great job and has proven to be ever so useful in my japanese learning journey so far. Would definitely recommend, just recently discovered the pitch accent feature and it's one of the few sources that has it.

My very only problem with tha app is that the anki cards made with the app are too simple, they only have the kanji, reading, and meaning, things like whether it's a transitive or intransitive verb, if it's a noun, adjective, suru verb, godan verb, ichidan verb, adverb are left unspecified and they are really important, so that's something i would love to see implemented as an option, if it's eventually added i can say that this app is perfect, keep up the good work

Great, simple dictionary app, except for one thing. It seems results are cut-off sometimes and not all possible results are shown. This is extremely annoying when trying to look at all the words that contain a particular kanji. For example: when searching for "正", 正しい is not in the results. At the very least there should be a way to see further paginated results.

I've been using this app for years and I really like how easy it is to use plus it's offline so when I don't have wifi or data I can still use it! Perfect for emergencies. However I have one main issue that's becoming really annoying since moving to Japan. There are words that arent used very often, are outdated, or are totally unrelated that show up on the top of the list. It makes it difficult to use it as a dictionary when you're in a time and place where is needed.

Mostly well done app. However, the input methods have a few deficiencies: Forcing the user to switch between Japanese and English within the app is cumbersome. Who studies Japanese and doesn't have a Japanese keyboard installed on their phone? Furthermore, it is not possible to input Japanese text by voice typing because of the way Jsho's input field is configured. Also, it's a bit disappointing that the option to remove ads is greyed out. Hopefully future versions will address these issues.

This used to be my absolute favourite Japanese dictionary app to use. I even paid to remove the ads, which made it 5 star wonderful in every way. Now somehow, the ads have returned??! There is still a button in the settings that says "remove ads" but it is greyed out and despite already paying for this feature, I can't get rid of the ads. Really dislike that this has happened to what was a great ad free dictionary.

It can take a bit of finessing to input a word and sometimes it can be hard to find the one you should use, though it does tell you what words are more commonly used. I use this app mostly because I can input a whole sentence and it'll define each word individually, or when I need to look up the different conjugations of a verb.

The Perfect Experience. I don't know anything about UI or making apps, but this app seems incredibly well thought out, is thorough, and intuitive to use. I use it daily, and, through experience, have come to trust it more than any other translator/dictionary.

Being forced to use the app to language switch is unwieldy as a user with both Japanese and English keyboards installed. Also, the ordering if results doesn't do great job of coming up with the most likely phrases first compared with the dictionary I was using before switching phones (I can't recall the name, sorry!). No technical problems with the app, though- it's well made.

One of the best Japanese dictionaries. I like that you can enter entire sentences and it translates each word for you. However 1) there are so many irrelevant search results 2) if you enter an emoji, it can't run the search 3) it doesn't have sentence examples for the words. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ⚠️ put the language changer icon where I CAN REACH IT. Maybe a floating icon or something! Or maybe allow us to run a search in English and Japanese so we don't have to pick a language! Thanks!

I'm definitely nowhere near fluent in Japanese, (I recognize hiragana, and that's about it) but this is an excellent tool to help translate. Google translate doesn't really handle Japanese well, but with this it can be enough to get a rough translation when Google would otherwise give you nonsense. I use it most often to look up kanji and alternate meanings for words, and it works great.

has some problems with my phone's keyboard, pressing the button to switch between eng and japanese input swaps my keyboard to the wrong language. doesnt happenon my old phone though so idk. also i really appreciate the anki integration. the "common" tag on words is sometimes a little inaccurate it seems, but most of the time its alright. i would recommend using a kanji drawing app with this because radical search is blegh been using this for years though, pretty good

I've been using this app for years and I love it, it's simple, easy to use, works offline and gives me all the information I could need. It's also fairly light so in times were my phone has been suffering of lack of space it had always stayed working flawlessly.

Aym. Feb 14, 2022

It's a great app and has a lot of features, but my only gripe is that looking up words sometimes gives you weird Obscure translations at the top and you need to scroll down until you find the word you wanted.

This full-featured dictionary is excellent for a wide range of Japanese learners. Lookup can filter for just common words or include the full range of homophones. Selected jukugo can then instantly be broken down into component kanji, with core meanings and links to other compounds. One can bookmark up to 1000 entries for later review. Reverse lookup from English words also included.

Simple but quick and useful dictionary. I've been using it for quite some times now. However I must say that the ads are now quite annoying. Considering how much I used the app, I would gladly have pay for a way to remove them.

I've been using this app for a while now, and it is probably the best reference material for English speakers trying to learn Japanese. It's has somewhat similar functionalities to Jisho (the website) with its radical lookup, conjugation, and word frequency features, but unlike Jisho, this app can be used offline (and is much faster to use as a result), and lets you make a ridiculous amount of bookmarks so you can easily revisit difficult words/kanji. この辞書アプリは絶対に一押しします!

Ste. B. Jul 29, 2021

Actually I like the app. It's minimal with what I expect it to do. It doesn't have all the website has but I can live with it. I'm giving one star though because it's unusable. Whilst the website will often suggest you the most appropriate word for a translation, e.g. most used or similar. The app usually suggest some really outdated spelling or word. Often the actual word you would look for is somewhere really down the list. In that way the app became useless unfortunately. 😔 example "repair"

Bry. W. Apr 28, 2021

It's missing pitch information and pronunciations, as well as the ability to not store history. Otherwise, it's good -- it even has information on word frequency, which is very nice to know.

Bec. S. Oct 30, 2018

This is an excellent Japanese to English dictionary. It's very useful in my day to day Japanese study. The only thing I would love to see implemented is the ability to draw kanji (like the website, which I assume is what this app is based on). Other than that, I couldn't recommend this app more for anyone looking for a Japanese to English dictionary.

Kei. W. Oct 28, 2020

I can't recommend this app enough. Not only is it a dictionary - it has a bunch of features I didn't know about upon installing. It can export words directly to Anki cards, it has conjugation chart for verbs, it even has pitch accent information for most words!

Mat. C. Sep 4, 2019

The biggest draw to this app for me was that the entries can display pitch accent, which is perhaps the most crucial element to develop natural-sounding spoken Japanese. I find myself constantly using this dictionary to confirm pitch accent and it's never let me down once!

Jua. D. C. Oct 7, 2018

Would be great if kanji could have okurigana separated by a point on the kun readings. For example 食 should display "く.う、く.らう、た.べる、は.む" instead of "くう、くらう、たべる、はむ". Great app and extremely useful (especially the "Send to AnkiDroid" functionality).

and. b. Apr 26, 2020

The only flaw in this app is that it doesn't uses JMdict, but edict, so some definitions for some words aren't as complete. I'd recommend adding an option to let the user decide the dictionary database. everything else is perfect. even with this flaw I wouldn't choose to use any other app.

Mar. P. Oct 15, 2018

Great app I just wish you could remove the toggle for English and Japanese off on the settings since Google Japanese keyboard already has a button for that. It gets a bit annoying that I have to press two buttons to change between languages over the years

ko. a. s. Nov 24, 2021

5 stars. So many words. Whenever I look up a word, it has it and what I like about it is even if you put a whole sentence and hit the search button, it shows the definition, meaning of each word in the sentence. Really great app.

Chr. B. Jun 20, 2020

I never leave reviews for apps, but I love this app so much and I want to share that! Ever since I installed this on my phone it has become so much easier to look up words in an instant. I was using the website heavily but that is slow to load and requires an internet connection. This app is fast, can be used online, and is simple (no frills that slow it down). It's easy to use and it gives me exactly what I need. I use it every day. Thank you for creating such a great app!
