Just a Line - Draw Anywhere, with AR

Just a Line is an AR Experiment that lets you make simple drawings in augmented reality, then share your creation with a short video. Draw on your own or with a friend, then hit record and share what you made with #justaline. Just a Line works on any AR-enabled device. To learn more, visit g.co/ARExperiments.

If this is to demonstrate the performance of ARcore then I must say I don't find it very convincing so far. It doesn't really recognize a flat surface. When you draw on something that should be a flat surface and then move the phone, your drawing moves. In particular when you move to a different distance. I hope that ARcore can do better than that?

This would be a five star app if one simple little feature was added: the ability to change the distance at which you're drawing. It's practically impossible to see what you're doing if you draw anything large. Being able to draw something that shows up 5ft away instead of right next to your phone would be amazing. Smaller brushes, different colors, different brushes would all be great additions too

I love the concept and the app. No doubt there is a lot of room for improvements and new features but a great initiative by the developer. You can also add predefined objects such as table, chair and other stuff and also the option to select the depth for an object/drawing. Depth in term of making an object near or far. Pinch zoom to make it near or vice versa. A good quality gif maybe, to mimic the motion of a fan for instance. Waiting for the updates from your side. Wish you luck.

Mixed feelings, the concept itself is innovative and will likely get far, but my problems are that the line is never actually gets drawn where my is placed on the screen, aside from that, there aren't many options for what you can do (more flexible brush sizes, different brushes, colours for the brush, etc) and also the stability of the doodle could be better, they sometimes move a lot. Overall, it's fun, but it could use a lot of work

Interesting concept. I am excited to see how this new tech application evolves into a useful everyday service. For now, I will try to discover how to fully utilize it. For the devs: I have noticed the anchors do not always pin to a particular point in space. I have seen them pin to multiple places, and at different distances away from the camera. Adding an option to define (numerically or visually) how far away the anchors should be pinned is essential. Please consider. You may PM me to discuss.

You see that lovely cursive squiggle in the marketing photos for this app? You'll never be able to draw that, unless maybe you set up an easel and put your phone on it then draw with a stylus. The lines shake all over the place, so what you end up with is a shaky video with a shaky white line on top. Also, the line needs some way of going into the photo. It's always drawn at the same depth from you. This is the least interesting AR app I've seen so far.

So cool! I love drawing circles the going through them The fact that it is free is so great! I would definitely recommend this app to anyone who want to have some fun. When ever I am bored, this app is fun and entertaining! If you drew something the walked to the other side of the room the drawing would be there- backwards! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because you could make it so it is in selfie mode and have more colors too.

Wow, this app has an amazing concept, but there's many things to be fixed and implemented, like make it more stable, add new colors and brushes and add a way to determine the depth at which you draw, if they develop this concept in the right way this could become an essential and very creative app

Its amazing. I can draw my gesture on it. Multiple gesture in fact. Without connecting them. And record all of them in one video. Although the video limited to 10 secs. And if the line color could be changed, it would be totally awesome.

My fingertips are too big to enjoy this app. I'd need to carry a stylus for it to get the results that I saw in the app store. Options for even smaller lines and different line colors would be ideal. Then I could enjoy this app. That's not possible in it's current state 😠

I would love the app even when it has only 1 line thickness and color. but it won't save the videos I take and tell me to try again. I don't know what the problem is but hope you fix it soon. My phone is the original Pixel XL with all required permissions granted for the app.

This is a cool app. It's quite resource intensive and it gets glitchy the longer it is used. Huge potential though... It would be cool if the lines could change colour too and if it could recognize that the line is wrapped around something.

my pixel XL was crashing for almost a year. ive did a complete reset from the bootloader as per Google's customer care rep instructions. have been slowly adding back the old apps to figure out which one is causing issues.... guess which one trigger my first freezup... yup. just a line. fix. your. app.

in the beginning I loved it.... I used it all the time... now for some reason it keeps saying can't find a place to draw line.... I tried uninstalling it and installing it again but still no luck. until then its lucky it got 2 stars instead of 1 to be honest.

this has so much potential. One of the few things that Google does that I fully agree with. This really needs to be expanded on. scan a QR code that contains a fully rendered map of the current area with illustrations and diagrams of what to do in a certain area. That would be great.

good AR app. Very useful. but i don't understand where these videos are saved. I checked in Pictures folder as toast msg suggests after hitting the save button but i could find the folder in the storage. can anyone help me on this?

It's really a good experience.. want to share some genuine review.. The virtual Drawings are getting shifted sometimes It needs improvement on Design Needs more feature like Saving a atmosphere, colour pallets, readymade design catalogue.. i personally love this app so much!! Thanks for making this app and i hope it will get these updates!!

Unfortunately when using a finger to make messages, the font is too thick. This app makes sense with a device that is stylus enabled and can take advantage of that specific sylus. But without that this app does not work.

Akh. S. Jan 29, 2019

great feature. but can't record video. it says couldn't save your video. then the app just close itself and goes back to home screen. edit:- save option now works after update.

If it had more options for colors, it would almost take over art platform. and yea minor bugs, still. i hope google looks more on it, it could be a real game changer.

The idea is really great. But the lines are not staying in the position I draw. How about recognizing an object and sticking to it? Also add some stabilization. I want to draw a straight line but I can't.

Sta. S. Jun 19, 2019

Great improvements have been made since this was released last year. Lines are now more stable and can retain their position better. Advances with ARCore can further improve stability in the long run. Overall, a great app for AR drawing.

A brilliant and easy-to-use app, but the fact that it has to duplicate already-existent camera functions makes me think that it should definitely be a plugin for Google Camera rather than a standalone application itself.

doesn't work. get an error every time you try to record or take a picture. the smallest line you can draw is too big and your text frequently gets lost and you have to rotate around to find it again
