Kana Town: Hiragana & Katakana

Overall great app! I love this app and it has definitely helped with my vocabulary. However, the last update caused the definition of some of the words to be unreadable (これ、それ、この、その) these definitions are almost the same except for at the very end where it specifies the speaker or listener. Please fix so we can read the complete definition.

I love this app. It's the only app that helps me learn and remember the word completely. Other apps, and I've tried many, it doesn't seem to do it for me. The app bundles was not working for a bit, but after contacting support, they have fixed the issue with a speedy reply. I encourage everyone to get the cheap bundles, it really helped with my memorization of the words when other apps could not.

Beautiful & clear app! It performs its job perfectly. I especially like the fact that it focuses on your weak items thus balancing smoothly the learning experience. My only nit pick is not being able to easily practice "all my ongoing items" without manually selecting them again. Besides that, it works & feels great. Definitely recommended!

WORK AROUND Kana town is a really good app, fantastic actually. However the servers are horrid so downloading extra bundles is hard. Basically in order to download any bundles, buy the ones you want(itll take a long time to connect) , reset the app or sync with database (this takes many tries, like half an hour) then the bundles will have "download" next to them, it takes a long time but keep tapping download and it'll eventually connect, and for a few seconds you can download multiple packs.

After installation "Migration in progress.." to get the database connected just end in "Oops timeout". No matter if I try while connected to wifi or mobile... even the suggested workaround in the comments doesn't work in this case because there is nothing to reset!?

I used this to study hiragana and katakana and it was super helpful. It also has other vocabulary that you can purchase that is worth it. This app is easier to use and better built than a lot of other ones I've used in the past. The spaced repetition is really helpful when trying to memorize vocab.

This app seems to do a good job teaching basic kana, that's all I really wanted from it. However, for some reason, the app opens on its own randomly. I didn't see any settings to turn that off, it's very frustrating. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S8 with Android 9.

It is a REALLY good app, very good, especially from my transition from computer. Except that the fact a few characters are wrong. The katakana "wo" is suppose to be just o. There's a few more like that, but otherwise fantastic app. I'd just be worried to the people who JUST use this app to study, I wouldnt want them to get the incorrect answers.

Great app for learning Kana( katakana + hiragana), haven't tried the kanji though. In combination with some mnemonics can help you easily learn. I used it and I learned to recognize them well at around 1 month( it may vary to how much you feel like learning and how you keep your learning schedule). がんばって！

Prior to Kana town I had a very, very difficult time reading hiragana and katakana. I tried studying on Duolingo but the Japanese in Duo Lingo ia for people who are intermediate at Japanese. Now I can practice on Duo Lingo and I do much better becauee of this app! I also do so much better reading when I am in Japan. Excellent app!

It was a very good app but lately has been crashing a lot and the app doesn't seem to download the bundles bought. Tried reinstalling but the database migration didn't work and I lost all my progress. This was a very good app in helping me learn hiragana and katakana so please do fix the app or the rating stays at 2 stars.

I Highly recommend this app for beginners. It's a Great little tool for learning Japanese Characters (Kana) or just refreshing your memory. The ability to design your own tests by selecting kana you're having difficulty memorising is extremely handy.

This is honestly an outstanding app for if you want to learn the basics and the Hiragana and Katakana alphabet! It's not too pricey and it's well worth the money, it helps you memorize things you forget or can't remember. I recommend this app to anyone who wishes to learn!

Absolutely phenomenal way of practicing hiragana and katakana. There's a decent amount of vocabulary that can also be added to it's review system, too. Thanks to this, and challenging myself regularly, I have my kana solidly memorised now.

I Nearly learnt all hiragana in two-three days!! The only problem I have is after doing test I have to re-select the all of them to do the test again (Also I recommend doing one or two lines until you learn them and the moving on. Also go back on them.)

Get the free version and stick to it. The basic app gets 5 starts - it's well made and the SRS implementation is fantastic. Don't bother get the bundles. I've tried buying them and the payment goes through but the app never downloads them. Contacting the app developer doesn't help. The only choice is to ask Google for a refund.

I had downloaded this again since I absolutely loved it, but I noticed it no longer highlighted the kanas I got wrong like it used to. In the mockup exam, if I get the answer wrong, it no longer goes to the next kana. I have to exit completely and restart. Can this be fixed, please?

Excellent app. Great implementation of SRS, although the 30 day limit is a bit low. Would be amazing if there was an option to display Kanji on the vocab flashcards and also if reverse flashcards could be added for vocab i.e. display kana and ask for english translation.

Great app! The UI is clean and neat, and the SRS and mock exams are very helpful. The one problem I have is that this app used to have a function where the kana would turn yellow if you got it wrong, letting you know which ones to practice. I wish you'd bring it back!

I like the app very much, I can keep learning and practicing everyday so I never forget the kana. But please, I wish you devs could implement a way to display notifications when there are items ready to practice, it would be very good, thanks.

Perfect app, lacking only SRS syncing. Might require some basic knowledge or following included typing tutorial, but other than that, it's just perfect.

awsome app. really useful. well i just wish that it also teach us the writting of kana. like showing an animation on how you should write a kana. 4/5 score for now. I'll make it a 5/5 if you added kana animations.

This is the absolute best app to memorize Hiragana and Katakana. It has a great Spaced Repetition System integrated and the app has no ads! Truly an amazing app and I recommend it to anyone who wants to memorize Kana!

It is good for learning kana and hiragana, though tofugu (on the internet) has easier systems to remember. For the word flashcard it misses pronounciation and pictures. So remembering is very hard by this app allone.

Great app! Would it be possible to add in a daily reminders to open the app (at customisable time?). I would love to get a reminder twice a day e.g at lunch and then before bed to go over some vocab etc.
