Kanji Drop

F.A.Q./Troubleshooting - http://www.kangenius.com/app/kanjidrop/data/faq.html

Blocks with Japanese Kanji on them fall and you try to eliminate them by forming words and and activating kanji-related powerups by combining them into more complex Kanji. It's a great way to learn kanji for beginners, a fun alternative to flashcards for advanced learners as you can import your Anki, WaniKani, and Koohii decks, and a fun game overall! :D

Tired of playing games where you spend a lot of time - a LOT of time - and have nothing to show for it? You compare yourself before and after and you're just ... less bored. Well, if you'd rather spend your time more productively and have fun, try KanGenius Japanese Kanji Drop where you - yes, YOU - can learn how to read Japanese without any effort at all!

Japanese kanji are the ideograms found in Japanese that are kind of like letters, but represent an idea, like gold, fish, sun, etc.! Now learn them in this falling block puzzle kanji game where you'll find emoji to help you learn kanji, POWERUPS that relate to the kanji, and a fully functional glossary. You can even narrow down your learning list to kanji from the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Levels 1 to 5! You can even review kanji from your text book lesson - Nakama, Genki, & Tobira! You can also play in a learning mode with more time between kanji! Learning kanji has never been easier or more fun!

Learn Japanese kanji by dropping blocks to make kanji and words! Make kanji from their parts and words from other kanji! Blow them up by making words or filling your limit meter and they all EXPLODE!

Learn all Japanese jouyou kanji for fun or proficiency. Every time you make a word or kanji, its meaning is spoken and you also hear the pronunciation of words. You also learn how to make kanji from their parts, just like in Remembering the Kanji, Vol. 1, by James Heisig. You can find a story from that book as well as animated stroke order diagrams and a list of your favorite kanji.

Open to all skill levels! It starts off easy and gives you hints when you're stuck. Keep playing and you'll find yourself recognizing more and more kanji!

[Note: Please set Text-to-Speech Engine to Google Text-to-Speech Engine to hear spoken Japanese under Language and Input in device settings - more at the Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) http://www.kangenius.com/app/kanjidrop/data/faq.html]

I really liked the game! It's fun and you learn a lot! Best thing that you can close down the sounds effects for an only speech option 😊

It's hard to find an educational game that is actually addicting; this is the first one. It teaches you the parts making up a kanji, making it easier to memorize them. That said, the design could be better and less cluttered. Some buttons, such as the "x" button are too small, and having too many functionalities right away can be very overwhelming for someone using the app for the first time a button to toggle advanced options would be awesome.

This is fantastic. I'm having a lot of fun. I have two suggestions: please make swipe controls an option (it would be more comfortable to me) and also can we have a font size setting? I have a 6 inch screen and I feel a lot of the scrollable text would fit perfectly well in the same space if the font was smaller. Anyway, thank you so much for this! It's an awesome learning tool!

It could be useful if you are already very advanced and know a lot of kanjis (500+). A good improvement would be to show suggestions (list of 3 words) or have matching blocks highlighted when a new block comes. The UI is very hart to navigate on a phone. The controls are not very intuitive (if you click on the bottom left corner, it'll register only bottom, not left). Otherwise the fact that each word is read in Japanese and English is very helpful. I'll probably search for another app for now.

A very good learning game. The user interface looks and feels rather sketchy. It offers a lot to help learn kanji, and, as a consequence, it has a lot to improve in usability. Not perfect, but spanning, serious, educative, nice, funny, helpful. I play it a lot, meanwhile having fun, learning, enjoying its virtues, and longing for improvements.

You deserve a great appreciation as a solo maker of this awesomely awesome app!!!πŸ˜†πŸ‘ But i have a small humble request. Could you please add more words in the seperate kanji? I feel like they are just a little bit less. It would be great if it happens. Still it is the best japanese learning app in the playstore!!! Even a group of people all together haven't made such an app but your work is exceptionally unique and impressive! Keep it up!😁

I love this app. I have been trying to study kanji but it has been very slow and tedious. This app has helped me to see the components of each kanji and how they connect to make new ones. I am finally remembering them. Being able to customize which level I want to focus on is awesome. I am finally learning the kanji faster and retaining their meaning and having fun at the same time.

Hi! So i love the whole concept of this game. Though, I recommend to lessen the number of colors? Stick to a color scheme and a neater more solid color theme, just to not overdue the number of colors and it would look cleaner. The first thing i noticed was, 1 - it's hard to focus since there's a lot of colors going on (based on the tutorial tab), 2 - the types of fonts, I recommend 3 fonts? one for the titles, one for the fonts besides the gaming grid and one for the tabs that always pops up.)

As a teacher I can say it provides me a good mental exercise. I love the way this app teaches us a new kanji. Especially the mini game part. But I wish the font size in the mini game part could be increased (the related words for the particular kanji) because I find it difficult to read it without my glasses. Thank you.

Blocks falling from the center and then controlling where it falls until you can't anymore due to the speed is unnecesary. Would make more sense to just choose the row where the kanji drops. Or 2048 spinnoff maybe? Also ability to choose whether to merge or make a word would be great. Some shining Kanji powerups seem underpowered. Acquiring coins is too slow and they are too expensive. I bought 100 for 0.99 just to get rid of adds. Ability to add own 単θͺž and ζΌ’ε— is very nice. Very addicting.

good for learning kanji. it just i dun like the speed become too fast as the game progress. end up i focusing on clearning the game instead of taking my time to learn and remember the combination of the kanji. should have option to allow user for 1. learning and 2. challenging the game. so that different people can enjoy the game at thier own preferences.

Absolutely Brilliant. I don't usually write reviews but this one's exceptional. I think that It's a brilliant idea to make Japanese learning fun by making it into the game, not to forget to mention the detailed explanation on each kanji, you just don't get that on other apps quite often. The interface takes some time to get used to, sure. But that doesn't matter. It's an extremely useful Japanese learning game. ζœ¬ε½“γ«γ‚γ‚ŠγŒγ¨γ†γ”γ–γ„γΎγ™οΌ

I really like the idea, but navigation is difficult. I can't figure out what each of the buttons do, like new game vs resetting progress. I tried selecting lessons but it didn't do anything that I can tell.

My biggest problem is the ads: unskippable, after every game, & they hang (black screen after the ad), making me reopen the app. I misunderstood the controls initially but gameplay works well enough, and the vocab lists you work with are excellent.

I have tried a Russian version of the app, and translations are bad. Please stick only to languages you are 100% sure about. Otherwise those who only start learning will fill their heads with misleading information. I really I appreciate your effort though!

Is there anyway to disable the romaji and disable the Kanji meanings. Thx. Edit: is there something I'm missing? I don't want to be able to see the English definition of the kanji in the game, only in the dictionary. Also disable the romaji that is written next to "reading" at the top. I've already selected kana that's all fine and dandy but I'd rather look at the top for kanji that's falling and their reading but NOT the definition.

Really enjoyed what i played, but THE ADS ARE SO BAD. I could not close the ad, EVEN AFTER IT WAS FINISHED. I was forced to close the app entirely. It was also a particular ad that i have come to hate so much it left a very poor impression of this app.

I like the application, but sometimes when several kanji are combined and eliminated at the same time, the top part (meaning and sound) starts to fall apart with the kanji that keep falling and each time the delay increases.

Pro. Jun 15, 2019

I appreciate the effort behind this and I understand that there has to be an incentive to make money with this app, but the later speed of the game is just ridiculous. If you have god-llike reflexes, it's fine, but I don't have those. Still, pretty effective, even if I have trouble combining some of the Kanji

Update (11/15/19) Great app! Over 500 hours happily played since 2018. Just wish there was an "are you sure you wish to restart?" warning. I have lost very long highscores due to accidentally restarting

Rob. S. Oct 15, 2019

I felt the blocks were a bit big and that the voices of gameplay were defeated in purpose because they were not always in sync with game action. If you study Kanji, you'll probably enjoy this game and hope for a sequel that improves over this one's variety of quirkiness.

Eaq. Aug 15, 2019

It has a lot of incorrect radical combinations. A simple example would be 口plus 寸 makes 舌 which is completely senseless. Game is not fun, slow, ugly, an hard to control. Developer hasn't includes many of the promised suggestions.

This game is super fun! It took me a few tries to get the settings to where the game was helpful (vs feeling like I wasn't really aware of what was happening) but once I got it sorted, it's been fun!

Mol. Dec 21, 2019

Way better than I expected, actually getting use out of this game. Very well made, bravo to the makers. Definitely worth it when it's free, I'm going to pay a dollar to get rid of the ads, which are rare, honestly. Thank you Devs!

I booted my phone on safe mode l, deleted the cache then redownloaded the game, then I rebooted on normal mode and the game is working, and I got all my progress saved due to the cool online save server of the app 😍 thank you so much for your cool game and fast assistance, this is definitely the best kanji app ever! The person who made this game is simply a genius ❀❀❀❀❀
