Kanji Garden Japanese

Kanji Garden is designed from the ground up for Japanese as a second language learners. Whether you're learning your first kanji, or skip 2000 to start, it adapts to your ability level and time commitments.

PERSONALIZED STUDY:

Set a goal of how many kanji you'd like to learn each day, and using proven learning techniques like spaced repetition, the app creates a personalized study plan based on what memories you need to strengthen.

Kanji you forget will be reviewed more often, while enough correct reviews will fill up its progress ring—which means you won't review it again for a full year. This allows you to maintain progress for hundreds and even thousands of kanji at once, while maintaining a reasonable amount to study each day.

CUSTOM LEARNING ORDER:

Kanji Garden is built on a simple idea: Learn all the components for a kanji first. When you can break down a character into its components, even kanji with many strokes become easy to recognize. Plus it enables you to take advantage of phono-semantic components that give hints at what the character means, and what it sounds like:

建: Build
健: Health (亻:Person + 建:Build)
鍵: Key (金:metal + 建:Build)

Here, 建 is a phonetic component. Now you know all three have the same on'yomi ケン (ken)!

There's also a heavy focus on easily confused kanji. Kanji Garden teaches these characters together and tests you on their differences to ensure you know how to differentiate them from the start, saving a lot of pain down the road.

料: Material
科: Department

SMARTER REVIEWING:

Get tested on all the common readings for each kanji. Kanji Garden uses vocabulary words made of kanji you've already learned to test in context. Multiple choice answers include commonly confused answers to help you catch your mistakes. Or type in kanji readings to practice Japanese input.

AMAZING STATS:

Visualize your unlocked kanji history or upcoming reviews on the graph. Track your learning streak and earn grace days as you study more. Time travel through your learning history, and save a wallpaper image or animated video of your current progress.

This is the first Kanji app that didn't force me to pull out my hair. I find the learning system logic and it keeps me going every day. Only one minus is that it doesn't pay much attention to vocabulary. It is there, but the app is not really testing it. I personally don't mind because the kanji are challenging as it is. But a second app or o section for vocabulary learned with these kanji might be an improvement. Otherwise, 5 stars and big thanks to an author. ❤️🎌

This is a gorgeous and clever app, and I wanted to like it. But the free version only lets you learn 2 kanji at a time (and "learning" takes at least a week) which is far too slow to be counted as learning. And I can't justify $5 a month to learn more when there's so many more kanji apps out there. An ads based approach with a slightly higher limit would have been preferable.

This app helps you learn kanji in a similar way to WaniKani (which I also use because I like using multiple methods at once). The free version limits how quickly you can progress, but that can be a good thing, especially if you're busy or you want to take your time learning kanji. It's especially good if you struggle to memorize individual characters and prefer to learn them in a logical way that actually helps you remember them. I have tried a lot of kanji apps - this is one of my favorites.

Love it! The system they use is really smart and manageable. I particularly love that it has reviews following an SRS schedule. While I love the minimalist style in the UI, I think it would be much easier on the eyes if there were a bit more color (such as in the sections or in the review explanation). Having a white blank background and black text on top can be daunting or confusing 😊

This has become one of my favorite tools for learning kanji, but it does have some flaws which I hope will be addressed. For one, it's not clear how the app works when you first start using it. You just have to figure out the workflow. On top of that, for beginners it offers an option to teach onyomi readings in hiragana instead of katakana, which would be quite helpful, except for one problem -- it still quizzes you in katakana. So as a beginner you'll be hopelessly lost until you realize this, disable the option, and get comfortable with both hiragana and katakana. Finally, it's missing audio samples for some of the most basic readings you encounter in the introductory kanji.

If you're looking for an effective tool to help you memorize kanji, look no further. After a dozen different apps and years, trying more conventional methods, this is the only one that sticks. It has room for improvement e.g. more comprehensive sentence examples, graphic representation of phonetic connections. Still, this app is so much more than a simple flashcard shuffle built upon a dictionary. It's not the cheapest out there but worth the price.

If you're serious about learning kanji for the long run, this app is perfect. I've used lots of Japanese study apps for both iOS and Android, and this is the first one I've ever come across that made studying easier instead of harder. It's order feels natural, and it includes many different and thoughtful ways to help you remember instead of just memorize. It's also the first I've ever used that let's you just mark a kanji as known, and not study the basics again. I cannot recommrnd it enough.

I love Kanji garden. I've been doing it, little by little, everyday for a over a year. I find it to be good for review. I really enjoyed the trial version, but never really upgraded afterwards. After the trial ends, it's mostly one to two Kanji with only a bit or review. But slow progress is better than no progress in my opinion. Honestly, I like it more than wanikani because it's just easier to understand.

This app is great! And I reccomend it for anyone learning kanji, but especially for people who have a hard time with consistent studying. Kanji are really easy to forget if you don't see them everyday and this is a really easy way to do that. It does what I could never manage to do on Anki, and it does it pretty well. My only complaint is that I can't aee the details of kanji I'm still reviewing. It makes it hard to takes notes on what I've learned.

The idea was great and I liked to use it during the free trial. But the price is way too high (and it's a subscription, not a 1-time purchase). Also, it looks like the app has been abandoned, so, unless the developer starts to take it seriously again, I advise to look for another app

The slow drip of new Kanji they allow you outside of a subscription is really not viable. Changes a 6-8 month process into several years if you don't sub. Feel like there are other ways they could restrict it and have the app still be useful without one. It's a pretty app that is easy to use...but for new learners I'd dedicate the time to something with more production instead of just multiple choice. Learners like me coming back for a refresher will definitely be held back by the drip feed.

I am using 2 Apps for Kanji learning. One App is better for how to write them and this one is better for learning the readings. For this App, you get a free 30 day trial. So I thought, I'll see how good it is and afterwards I might buy it. The concept is interesting but learning with it is not as effective for me as I have hoped. I also miss a few features but it still was a good addition for learning Japanese. I got ready to pay around 30$ - turns out it is 125(!!)$... kinda unjustified price

Always loved this app. The simplicity makes it really easy to learn the kanji, the analytics are very pretty, and I can easily mix in whatever other kanji I learn out of order. ... The confusable-shapes learning order is very clever and well executed. It points you right at the key recognition points. ... I had a brief problem just now with it getting stuck on a spinning loading animation, but I tried again later and now it's fine.

This app really did good for me. I found it hard to memorize the on and kunyomi but I am glad I found this app and have learnt more than 1800. But, 4 stars for its high cost. It is, well, very expensive since I pay less than 5$ for another kanji learning tool for a lifetime. And another thing is, since I have come so far, I found many kanjis is not provided with example. Like in a lot of cases, only the on and kun without even further translation. It seems like the app still is not complete.

The app is cool and the interface is minimal but easy to navigate. I really benefit from learning kanji thru this app and i'm definitely subscribing for the upcoming months. But I hope the review can have more diversed formats (maybe a sentence gap-fill exercise? So i actually remember some occassions when the kanji are used instead of just learning to recognize them singularly). Waiting for that update, then the app would be my primary source for kanji learning.

A good app, but it's lacking in many ways. At the time of writing, I've used this app daily for 4 months with slow progress (at 464 kanji). PRO: - easy to understand - aids you in learning a kanji based on its components - usually provides vocabulary for context - has a nice poster-style progress visualization CON: - sometimes asks for information it's never tested you on before and treats it as a single piece of knowledge (inconsistent + annoying SRS) - learning readings without vocabulary(!)

WARNING!!!!!! Do not install this app unless you plan on never starting a subscription. They ignore emails and phone calls about cancellation and continue to charge you every month. Google can't help because the subscription is through Stripe. Stripe only directs you to contact the app creator. I had to cancel my bank card to get it to stop.

I really liked using the app, very easy to use and just a great way to learn. However since a while back I have not been able to access the app. When I open it I am shown a loading sign on a black screen and the app never opens. A shame if this can't be fixed.

Would be 5 star if the developer was more forward about the cost. This is absolutely an amazing app for kanji. I find myself just reviewing when I have down time and it's legitimately sticking. Even if I don't necessarily remember every reading the meaning itself sticks. In addition to that the example sentences are way more helpful that I would have imagined. TL:DR App good, Better than wanikani Have to pay after a month for full features

1. App is crashing whenever vocabs option is selected. - I suggest to group the vocabs in noun, adjectives, verbs then limit the query. 2. No sample sentence. -It would be very efficient if there's at least 1 example. I'll rate it 5 stars once applied.

Absolutely phenomenal app/website. The system in place here is amazing for learning, the UI is clean and very easy to use and the user experience is great. I can not recommend this service enough for anyone who wants to start learning Japanese seriously.

Jam. R. Jan 15, 2020

It would be nice to have a reset function, so when I return after not using it for months I can start again. I know it's an app to be uses consistently, but given the price of a lifetime account I would expect to have control over things like that. Reduced to 1 star because the developer doesn't respond, which given the cost of membership to the application is unacceptable.

Best app to learn Kanji. Kanji is introduced slowly on radical basis, Parallelly similar looking kanji or with same reading is shown for comprehensive learning. Long term and short term based memory quiz. After an extensive research on best way to learn Kanji by meanings n readings, I found this is best way n I started to learn Kanji this way manually. I'm fortunate, I stumbled upon this app which THE MOST UNDERRATED n BEST app for KANJI LEARNING n PRACTICE but is not there in top search results

I do like this app, but I am currently unable to access all of its features! To use all the features, you must add an email address to your account, which requires you to enter an activation code sent to your email inbox. Except they never send me the code! I have tried many times and it doesn't work.
