The only fact the free version is already complete is a reason to support such an app. Really easy to use, well constructed, nice theme choices. As a Japan and japanese fan, I always wanted to learn but couldn't find the right tools for me. A friend recommended me this, and I instantly adopted it. Thank you very much for making a part of my dream come closer to reality.
I haven't have it for long but it works great so far and it has a lot of features. So far, the only two things I found missing is: an option to display the meaning of the kanji in both hiragana and romaji (to practice the former) and an option to go through random kanji you already know, for revision purpose.
This is a life saver as someone who's learning at uni, especially in the fact that it's free! There aren't any ads either :,) There's a clear walkthrough of how everything works when you open it for the first time, which is quite handy. Everything is split up into sections of N1-N5, Grade 1 etc. Really good app, I recommend giving it a go and if it doesn't match up with your learning style, you're not really going to lose anything. Just uninstall. Thank you, Andrew!
It's not the best out there, but it's also certain that i won't be leaving this app anytime soon or in the future. I kept returning back for the writing and reading lessons. It's simple to use and you can choose whatever you want to learn. The ads are non intrusive at all, and all contents are unlocked from the get go. Sure the UI looks outdated but that never bothered me even once. Edit: Holy smokes my bad there are no ads! I must've mistaken something somewhere, sorry Andrew. All in all, I love your app.
Overwhelming. This app, in essence, is digital flash cards. Problem is, learning 10 alien concepts and words at a time is overwhelming. When you get a flash card wrong it'll repeat it when you cycle through the set of ten again, but that doesn't mean much when you know none of them. I just wish i could limit it to 3 or 5 at a time. Currently, no such customization exist, and I'll avoid this app until then.
Seems a bit helpful, though annoyingly laid out to its detriment. "Hints" are less that and more "components" that may or may not be of any help on figuring something out. The forced use of the built in keyboard, as opposed to whatever ones you may have on your phone is also a massive irritant. The dictionary's about the only useful thing here if you get hung up on bad explanations and odd design choices.
This is the BEST app that I know of for learning kanji! It has tons of features and options. It has sections like recognition, reading, writing, and dictionary, along with a few permutations. You can see example uses of the kanji in words, and radical meanings, and it shows you how well you know kanji lists (such as for the JLPT), and re-tests you on what you missed. And most tests consist of one simple button tap per question. What's more, it's free, and I haven't even seen any ads. (If you look hard enough, you'll find the ability to upgrade to a premium version, which adds a few things like saving on multiple devices, but the free version is certainly not handicapped.) It is SO well done. If you are studying kanji, you owe it to yourself to pick this up!
Excellent supplementary kanji learning app. Using this and a notepad, you can learn kanji really quickly. The interface is really smooth, there are tons of options, and it's extremely easy to pick up for just a few minutes here and there. My only suggestion would be to find a way to make finishing a "set" of 10 kanji feel more satisfying (i.e. For the kanji writing mode). Even just a little pop up in the corner that says "nice work!"and a few variations every time you finish a set would be good
love it, but the color scheme choice in options doesn't work for me. edit: I upgraded to Pro version, because this app is amazing at helping me memorize everything, and it's definitely worth supporting. color scheme is still a little wacky in places, but nothing worth complaining about. A suggestion I have is the ability to show meaning and pronunciations at the same time during recognition questions, so you are learning both at the same time.
Very fully featured app, with no ads, to boot! It has 3 very well made learning functions as well as a large and easy to use dictionary in case you are just looking for a single word. On top of all of that, the app is both small and fast, and free! (and did I mention there aren't ads?) Definitely worth getting for learning Japanese or for the dictionary alone. There is a reasonably priced paid version as well that adds a few optional features, but again, this app has everything you could want!
All kanji and vocabulary one could ever need - from beginner and beyond N1 - in a no-nonsense, extremely efficient learning system. Love it and use it every day for at least an hour. This little app lets you actually fully learn hundreds of kanji in a day without effort, and it is free! There are some - very infrequent - data bugs (one or two times a translation showed up as a question mark.). This app is robust and very easy to use. Give the pro version a shot, you will not regret it.
Great for all levels of Japanese skills whether you're a complete beginner, starting in the middle as an intermediate, or trying to go beyond into the advanced levels. Makes study time efficient and effective. I really like that it's improved from last year's version and stoked I can FINALLY study at my skill level (intermediate). Totally worth my time and hey, it's free.
This makes it very easy to squeeze lessons in when I have a bit of spare time. I use it to augment what I learn from Duolingo. I have upgraded to get audio. It was a hassle to get the audio working, but worth it. (Edit) I love the update! Thanks for dropping that annoying buzzer. I like the dark theme, and I am interested in what other options you are going to add.
This probably the best app for learning kanji available on the Play store. It's so good, I bought the pro version less than an hour after trying it out. That said, there are areas where it could be better. There isn't any way to drill kanji based on different readings, which would be a welcome addition. Also, the spaced repetition list is a great feature, but it overlaps the recognition, writing, and reading sections. A seperate list for each section of the app would rock. More 9/10 than 4/5.
I have downloaded a lot of apps trying to learn different things (Japanese, but also other things as well), and just about every single one has had some sort of energy system, or annoying ads, or some obnoxious reminder system. This app is none of that, and it really shines because of it. As a complete novice their method of breaking up the Kanji by grade level and most used words is really helpful, and the flashcard style is really easy to use. I cannot recommend this app enough honestly
I've only been using it for 30 minutes, but I was taken to learning things almost instantly; the short, respectful tutorial trusts in your capabilities as an intelligent human being to know how things will end up working. Besides that, I've already come to a very very basic level of,) recognition! Definitely worth it; it even works offline, to boot!
I rarely write app reviews, but this is by far one of the best Japanese-learning apps out there. I've only really used about half of the features available thus far but already feel so much further ahead than I would be if I hadn't found this. The content is well-organized, the multiple learning and testing modes are easy to work with and effective, and there's a huge amount of useful information packed in there. In particular, the identification of the radicals and sub-components that make up the kanji and the ability to go directly to lists of associated words, etc, have been extremely helpful to pick up and remember new characters quickly. My only real wish would be that it also included hiragana and katakana practice similar to the kanji, as I've had to resort to other apps for those which really weren't as good.
This app is great. It uses simple repetition, and isn't overcomplicated. It's easy to navigate, and does a great job of displaying progress and weak spots. Definitely one of the best kanji apps imo. My only suggestion is to add an option to have word meanings in hiragana/Japanese, as well as English. Some users like myself already have a wide vocabulary from speaking and listening, but really need to practice reading and writing, and I think more hiragana and less english helps this.
Interface isn't always elegant, and the back or cancel button take you way farther back in the menus than I'd expect, making searching for new dictionary words to add to the list more tedious than I like. But! If you use the hardware back button instead of the software 'X' button it's more manageable. Otherwise, this app does what I want to and is pretty fun to use!
Like many others users, I've tried a multitude of apps from the play store, and by far, love this one best. Easy, well organized interface. I don't need fancy bells and whistles, just a good working app. I can recall a lot of Kanji when I see them, but have great difficulty in writing them. This little jewel of an app is helping a lot. I specially like how it is sorted by the JLPT proficiency and grade levels.
One of the few times I will review an app, but I just had to due to have easy to use this is. It gives you the feel of effectively learning kanji, and the splitting of kanji into categories helps you to have a better understanding of pacing and how close you are to being able yo use it in a realistic setting. It's a great app, and I imagine it would be useful to anyone, regardless of their level of Japanese
This app is less for people who are just starting to learn the kanji, because it doesn't really give you a specific way to remember them. But if you've learned a good chunk of kanji like me, it's perfect for reviewing. I like that when you click on the answer it instantly takes you to the next card, so I can do fast-paced reviews. It also has hiragana and katakana parts so if you're just learning those it's helpful. It's also ad-free, which I appreciate a ton. Great app!
An amazing app! By far the best for learning kanji, unlike a lot of others it's very well organized. It teaches you in three stages, first to recognize kanji and their primary (and secondary) meanings, then the kanji's readings and finally how to write them. And again, unlike a lot of other kanji learning apps, the system for writing the kanji when learning them is very smooth. Five stars all the way!
