Kauai GPS Driving Tours

Maui and Big Island Guides worked well on Ipad. Had difficulty with Kauai app on Android. Only worked going backwards on the route. Ignored all the markers going forward. Poipu and Waimea routes acted the same way. Didn't seem to understand which way we were going. Thanks for the response. As I said, we are familiar with the tours and have never had issues before. Worth the money - though the narrator's code switching between overly excited narrator to "Hawaiian Native" was a bit offputting, the app tells really interesting stories and takes you to places you may not find out about otherwise. Very happy I got it. Especially good if you hike because it has a lot of them of varying difficulties.

We've used four trips on two islands and enjoyed them all. The clear effective instructions come automatically with plenty of time to react. Stories are interesting and appropriate. Our only challenge was interfacing with three different rental cars. In one case Bluetooth connection worked. Another it would stop after 5 seconds if the USB cable was connected. In the last we had to use phone speaker. I had a battery backup which I recharged the phone as needed. I recommend Shaka Guide.

I agree it needs a pandemic update. I loved someone else being my tour guide. Unfortunately, even though it says it is downloaded, when I lost cell service I lost the tour. When it was working it was great!

Great app. Took a bit to figure out the navigation when starting from a different point than was suggested. Very informative. Can be a bit confusing with the directions, but I always found my way back. Took us to the typical tourist spots and to others I had never heard about. Had music and stories about hawaii history and folklore. You only need one per car. Great for a self driving tour . Connect to car audio. You need a car and car charger/ USB cord. Definately recommend!!

The Shaka Guide is amazing! You learn so much about the history of the island and you don't miss a thing! I'm impressed on how accurate the navigation is and appreciated the notice in advance on where to slow down, turn and stop. Every spot is a site to see!

Great app. Wish I could start from a specific stop when the app glitches and doesn't automatically start with the next stop. Other than that, found the tour to be entertaining and informative.

Absolutely wonderful and worth it! A great way to learn while navigating the island. You get to hear history, stories, and get tips for where to stop, plus trusted directions. Do it!

Fantastic guide for a fantastic island! Give yourself at least as much time as suggested for each tour as with excursions, hikes, etc. they can easily go over the estimated time. Tremendous value!

Seriously amazing. We enjoyed the big Island volcano tour so much, we bought the full package for this island. All tours were awesome. Helps your easily see all the big spots on the island.

This is a great app!!! If your debating about buying it, just do it. it's a great way to see many attractions at your own pace and way cheaper than any guided tour.

We had no idea there was this much about the island we didn't know. if you love learning new things, you'll love this guide.

Took 3 of the 4 tours. Well worth the money. We found and stopped at places we would have never seen ourselves. And the Hawaiian folklore was an interesting way to pass the time. Thoroughly enjoyed, thanks!

This is the BEST way to tour Kauai! We saw SO MANY things we would have missed on our own, never once got lost, and cost next to nothing compared to a tour! The directions were spot on, the history and legends were fascinating, the views were amazing, and the beaches were perfect! The jokes were a little corny, but made us chuckle. Fabulous, funny, engaging, educational...we did all four tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. This app was well worth the money and will use them again if we come back. We really have a taste of the island and a sense of the history in Kauai.

I cannot imagine a better way to tour Kauai! The narrator was awesome, funny, and the stories about the local lore made our day tours very enjoyable. Paying for a personal tour guide is totally unnecessary. The apps were easy to navigate after a very short learning curve while yet allowing us to tour at our own pace. The use of GPS instead of cellular data was a very smart and necessary option.

Loved this app, used it on both Oahu and Kauai to get around. Really liked the stories and history shared, it was like having your own tour guide while you drove at your own pace omitting whatever stops you chose along the way. Made us feel comfortable going out on our own. The only downside, and this could have been user error, was almost every time we would get back in the car, we would have to play with the settings to get the app to play through the stereo on 2 different car rentals.

Great Guide!! we loved it and it made driving fun. We even bought extra for our travel companions and used it on multiple islands. Navigation was well done, entertaining and informative. We rely enjoyed it alot. My only complaint is it's a bit quirky when changing between tours and shutting down. I had to delete and reinstall multiple times which was a bit challenging on island with bad cell phone coverage.

Shaka Guide saved our trip to Hawaii. We were traveling just as coronavirus / COVID-19 was just getting aggressive and restaurants/activities were getting shut down all over the islands. Thanks to Shaka Guide, we were able to cover a lot of ground and see most of Kauai, plus learn a lot about its history, culture, language, mythology, and industries along the way. The narrations were current so far as we could tell and we liked the musical interludes. The directions were accurate, though sometimes there was a little delay with the GPS signal and a turn would come up faster than expected, but that was never too much of a problem. Thanks, Shaka Guide!

App took us to some amazing sites! We learned a lot about the culture of Hawaii and definitely have found a new respect for the island. The GPS to get us to the starting point of the tour was sometimes a little funky and tried to get us to make multiple illegal u-turns, so pay attention to signs. Boy, does this app KILL your battery! Even though I was charging my phone the entire time the app was on, my phone was literally on 0% and I was unable to take pictures or videos on my phone.

App works extremely well, no issues there. Good sites, information, directions, etc... Everything about this is great, except for one thing. The bad jokes are awful. Like, really bad. I wish the narrator would have taken a more informative approach and tried less to be funny. I'd still recommend it, though. Great tour overall.

Highly recommend for those who have rented a car and are interested in seeing a lot around the island and learning a bit along the way. A bit corny, but for the most part spot on and kid friendly. Saw way more than we would have on our own and it was very easy to use. It does drain the battery (as the app itself calls out), so be prepared with a battery pack or USB charger.

A must have for first time visitors! This app really makes it feel like you have a local tour guide riding in the car with you. We experienced so many amazing things that we would never have found without this app. It even tells you where to park for each attraction. Between stops there are some great local legends and historical backgrounds. This works perfectly as a full tour experience or you can use it for specific spots. I highly recommend!

This app is fantastic! We would never have found some of the places/turn off roads without it. And then we would have missed, some of the best stops along the way! It is really like having a FUNNY and ENTERTAINING local come along with you, Brah, hahaha! So very, very happy we found it! Thanks for a great and memorable experience!
