Horrible app! Must be within Bluetooth range to connect and even then it has a hard time finding the lock. Can't add multiple users for other people that live in the home and takes way too long to sense and find the lock. It's much easier and faster to just put your key into the door

I've had my Kevo lock for 3 years. Buying it was a big mistake. Even when it is working, (i.e. opening the lock when you touch the lock), you have to have your phone IN YOUR HAND AND HOLD IT CLOSE TO THE LOCK. So the advantage of not having to fumble getting a key out of your pocket is gone if you have to fumble getting your phone out. But >50% of the time it doesn't work. So you shut off Bluetooth, close app, turn Bluetooth back on, restart app. Repeat ad nauseum.. until you give up and get key

This is quite possibly the most frustrating app I've ever used. Very rarely works, often times caught out in the rain or cold while the app "searches" for the device. Usually takes a dozen attempts. Bluetooth range is very short. Touch feature work approx 1/50 attempts. Better off having a key pad or key.

What a simple installation; it was so easy I thought for sure it wasn't going to work. It did work and it does work beautifully. I purchased a fob to go along with the lock and it was simple to program. And re-keying the lock was again one of the easiest things I've ever done; a 6 year old could install this thing. You DO have to make sure that the KEVO app is constantly running in your background which might put a drain on your mobile phone battery. A bridge is needed for the remote features.

The app is terrible and the product isn't much better. The app is very slow to connect with the lock even when you are standing right in front of it. It only works across Bluetooth for free if you want to access it with wifi (or Alexa) you have to pay a monthly fee. When it does connect with the lock (finds it) it then might take another 30 seconds to 2 minutes (I've timed it) to unlock the lock or time out. I don't know if the alternative options out there are better but I'd recommended not purchasing this smart lock and save yourself the headaches. As an example the other day I took my son to the park and my wife left the house and locked the door. I didn't bring anything but my phone with me. When I got back I tried to use the app to unlock the door. My son was tired and anyone with kids knows that can be a hassle. Standing right at the door the lock would not connect (yes the batteries are fine and Bluetooth was on) we were stuck outside! Not reliable! not worth it!

Pathetically unreliable. always has been, latest update made it useless. I have to use my physical key or open the app. Half the time the app doesn't even report the lock status. Looking into other options to replace this piece of junk. It has been an endless source of frustration for years. Now, when I try to edit any app settings, the app responds with a page not found error. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, same thing. This happens on WiFi (verified working) or network data. POS.

Hasn't worked at all for months. Very frustrated they have not made it compatible with Android 10. It tries to open for a second then immediately closes down. My attempts to contact them have resulted in no response. I hope they'll update it at some point. Update Oct. 10 - I updated the app and it now works. It took me about an hour, though, to calibrate the lock. The instructions were hard to find and there was no alert my batteries were low. Updated from 2 to 3 star.

I realize that probably 99.995% of users will never be in the reception hole that is my house to uncover this little quirk, but... Why on earth does the app hit the web to check for device compatibility EVERY SINGLE TIME you open it, as opposed to first install? And then fail to open if there's no internet? It opens and closes the lock...eventually. Sometimes it does it with the phone in your pocket, sometimes you have to wake it up, and I haven't figured out the difference. Invariably, you have to open the app at least once if you should reboot your phone (which is how I discovered that it checks for compatability each time). It's convenient, mostly, but I wouldn't trust my life to it.

I can't even give it one star. It doesn't work at all. When you try to open app it crashes. Said that my android phone was compatible running on a 7.0 ahh no. Even if you get ahold of someone when you call the # that's if they don't hang up after sitting on hold for a hlf hr. The company said it was a compatible phone. Two months later e-mailed saying they will update the app for that phone wait for the update. As you can see app hasn't been updated since May! Really super cool lock if it worked

Works less than half the time now. App shuts down if you turn Bluetooth off, and doesn't restart if Bluetooth is turned back on, but that doesn't seem to matter because even if you restart the app manually, it still doesn't work. Being for opening of deadbolts & locks, this should be extremely reliable, and it's extremely unreliable, rendering it useless.

It's been insanely unreliable since I've used it, which has been for like 2 years now. Half the time, the touch to open feature just straight up doesn't work and I have to use the physical key. The app loads up too slow for it to even matter at that point. If I have to use the key half the time, what's the point of having paid like $250 for the set?

Lar. Nov 21, 2019

App is not reliable. It's a real pos in my opinion. It only works while touching the rose ring maybe half the time. The rest of the time you have to get your phone out and open the app. Much faster to use a key. Update 11/21/19. App is still unreliable. About 80 percent of the time I have to open app, identify lock and then use phone to lock / unlock. Using key is much easier. Really surprised they can't get this to work better.

Up until the release of Android 10, I would have given it 4 stars. It worked great on my Pixel, not so great on my wife's phone. Ever since updating to Android 10, it has not worked at all and the app crashes when I try going in. I have tried to contact the company on more than one occasion. While I would not expect a personal response, there have no updates either. I can't be the only customer experiencing this. Very disappointed.

The shared office space in which I currently work uses Kevo for its members' access. Everyone seems to have varying levels of trouble with the app, for me it crashes before it even gets to the normal menu screen about half the time. This could be due to a bug or non-support of my common phone OS (Android 7.1.1). Either way it's not a good app experience.

Slow slow slow. Takes forever to find the lock, app is always on and using battery. As a backup if you don't have your keys it works fine, but I'm standing at the front door waiting for at least a minute for it to open. Wifi would be a better comms solution to keys. than Bluetooth. Works as advertised I guess, just not a helpful alt solution. Meh

The convenience of not having to carry keys is completely pointless when it takes longer to constantly re-log in in order to unlock via bluetooth. Half the time when it is connected the delay is extreme and sometimes doesnt work at all until the app is refreshed. It was a bit more reliable when first purchased, I'm not sure if it is app support and updates that are lacking but it really has gotten worse for reliability and consistency.

Mal. Jan 11, 2021

Very frustrating. 1% of the time it works well. 80% of the time it requires multiple attempts to work resulting in you standing there waiting for it to timeout so you can try again. 19% of the time it outright fails. Its always faster to just use your key thus making this lock pointless. On top of all this, the app is a huge battery drain. They should really open source the firmware so the community can fix it. I have several of these locks and they all suffer the same problems.

The Kevo app keeps crashing on our Samsung Galaxy phones. After all the trouble and expense of switching to the latest technology from our old clunky keypad, I'm now considering just going back to old reliable technology... a key. Edit: I had to delete the app, it was in a cycle of crashing and it took a while to force it to stop so I could uninstall.

This app is so bad. It just crashes and crashes. it worked once when I first got it but even then it wouldn't unlock half the time until I restarted my phone. Now it just crashes everytime. I got this for a short term rental property. Gotta uninstall the lock and return it now, because if it doesn't even work for me reliably then how can I trust it for visitors and guests to get into their rental. Version 2.1 is the latest available in my play store. Release your fix in 2.6 for all androids.

The whole system is a POS. The lock and Kevo plus hub were included with the smart home package in my new Lennar house. The app is jenky AF, doesn't connect either directly or through the hub consistently and when it does takes a minute or two to activate the lock. When connecting remotely through the hub the app doesn't know the current status of the lock so it isn't trustworthy without visually verifying lock status so what's the point of this connectivity? It's faster and more reliable to use the physical key...there is no point to this entire system.

Have yet to unlock my door via touch. The app would unlock the door, but each time it would have to reconnect, taking at least 10 to 15 seconds. Restarted my phone trying to get touch to work, but now the app crashes constantly. Supposedly can authenticate with my wear OS watch, but that's never worked. When I installed the lock, it was setup for a door that swings other way. No mention in manual and Google search results were wrong. Support was quick to answer when called.

This app doesn't work. I've been locked out 3 times in 2 months because the app will not pair/connect with my phone and I left without the key (which is huge). I've reinstalled the app 4 times and reset the lock twice. I've gotten it to work once. I purchased this lock so I could give access to house guests but can't risk leaving them stranded outside. A total waste.

Really great. Looks good.. Easy set up, the app gives an easy how-to with simple steps and pictures for Bluetooth connection. The app does run all the time. You can select silent notifications however it is in the notifications bar. There might be a way to change this setting, I haven't found it, I also didn't look very hard.

J. L. Nov 16, 2018

I would give this a better review but it doesn't want to close out once you are done using it it keeps running in the background and gives you no way to close out the app without having to go into your options menu. It's extremely frustrating and I feel as if it is almost intentionally done by developers so that you keep using their application but it's a freaking door lock once I'm in the house that's the end of my use.

Doesn't work well with Samsung Galaxy s7 edge. The lock/app will not maintain a connection to the phone. Equally important is that updating the lock is a nightmare. You can stand in front of the lock and keep tapping the device but it won't update. I was able to operate everything easily with my wife's iPhone with no problem.
