Keyboard Designer: Create and design keyboards
A keyboard must match the following requirements:
1. No connection to the internet
A keyboard is used to enter very private data like passwords. Due to this a keyboard must not request a connection to the internet. Only by this it is possible to ensure that no data can be send by the device! Also contacts or similar private data must not be accessed by the keyboard. This means: no permissions for the app!
2. Individual adjustments
The keyboard is the most used app on a mobile device. Therefore ist must be perfectly adjustable to the needs of the user! The position of the keys, it dimensions, labels, colors and borders do define the look. By the assignment of a powerfull function the user can enter a text very fast. So with this app you can create the keyboard like you need it. This means: all options to you!
3. Easy usage
As the screen size is very limited, entering a text is not easy. The present functions and their smart accessability allow the usage even in hard conditions (walk with mobile device in one hand and a coffee in the other) or for handicaped people. An edit bar shows the entered letters in a hughe way and allows to manipulate them directly. If it is not obvious which key was pressed, a resized view of the keyboard is shown with big keys. And if you ever want to do any changes on the keyboard, you can hit a key to open the designer and make it so!
4. Speed
A keyboard must react on a keypress very fast - otherwise errors are the logical consequence. This app does not use the functions to implement a keyboard that are provided by the system, but it shows all keys in a graphic. If a key is touched, its assigned function is send to the editor. Its very fast due to this simplified structure.
After the installation some example designs are shown. They alread contain all necessary keys and can be used or modified (e.g. to add your own special characters like umlauts, glyphs, change duration of pressed keys or make big keys). It is also possible to make completely new designs.

HINT 1: When the keyboard is selected, a hint is shown by the system, that the keyboard can collect data. This is shown even when a keyboard has no internet connection and it cannot send any data!
HINT 2: In future a chargeable version will be provided which contains additional functionality (e.g export and import of designs).

This app is great and I very rarely type reviews, but the thing is I don't like how it's set up when you start with the keyboard first things first. I wish it started out with just a normal keyboard for you to edit instead of the slow delete button, no auto correct, and having to delete and replace every single annoying symbol on the key one by one. Just a regular keyboard. It takes forever, and I genuinely wish it was easier and more simple to use. I wish I had more space to write this thing.
Very Useful for Phones with Physical Keyboards! With this app I was able to make a quick and easy symbols bar for typing symbols that aren't on my phone's keyboard. However, I am annoyed that while using this app I cannot disable auto-capitalisation (and other automatic features like double space period) as I can with almost every other keyboard on the market. Loses a star for that, but everything else is perfect.
If you want a truly custom keyboard then this is the app for you. The default settings are bafflingly terrible, but once you figure out how to fix them (the app can show you how theres a help section) youll have a field day getting rid of all the annoying keys and settings that other "custom" keyboards have. The only problem is customisation takes forever but once its done youll have your dream keyboard. I NEVER write reviews for anything but this app was just what i needed. Thank you.
Finally! I can get exactly what I want out of my keyboard! The only things I wish this had the ability to do is the tap and drag on the space bar and the delete button to seek or delete multiple words respectively. There is a workaround, but it would be totally awesome if this functionality was added.
Loving this app. The minds behind it must be amazing. I think there should be clearer detail on how the special key functions work though. I would like the key swipe function to be a shorter distance but thats just me being picky. Otherwse perfect! 5 stars!
Simply amazing. By far the most configurable and powerful keyboard out there. Thanks to the developers for this gem. Highly recommended. A LOT of patience required, be warned. Purchasing the extended packages sure makes things easier, and the price is reasonable.
Was learning the workman layout which gboard doesn't seem to support, so I downloaded this app. Setup took me about a day but the final result is really nice. You can fully customize the color and size of your layout too.
Exceptionally excellent and customizable! I used to use Chrooma for its definable top row, where I put my favourite punctuation and emojis. KB Designer lets me have 2 custom rows, and more! I enjoy the process of building and refining my personalized KB. I like that my keystrokes are kept private. The developer is responsive and the app is powerful and clever. Thank you!
I used this to make a keyboard for a conlang with a weird writing system. Takes a while to set up, and there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's actually very customizable and exactly what I was looking for.
Still getting familiar with all the features in, and flexibility offered by, this keyboard. So far, I love it! Customer support is phenomenal... received a reply from the developer within 10 minutes of asking a question... on a Saturday!!
After taking a step back and recuperating my losses (Rage Quit) I had a second go-around with the Keyboard Designer. Realize the function of the "design" and "mod," the design gives the new composition/layout of the keyboard while the mod changes the function of the keys. The App isn't easy to use and that is expected when it comes to full customisation without encoding. This app is one-of-a-kind and gives me exactly what I need. (Thanks for the Redo button! I appreciate it very much!)
Fantastic App. Different in lots of good ways and excellent for a power user like me. I've got copy and paste (etc) assigned to quick down swipes of appropriate keys. Also the simple fact that I can just change anything I want is fantastic! If you're struggling to find a keyboard that's right for you then please give it a try. Great bonus feature is the edit bar. A little different to what I've seen before but worth considering.
It takes some getting used to, not everything is intuitive, but it was just what we needed. Typing quirks are usually quite frustrating to do, but this keyboard is so immensely customizable that it makes it easy. We can create quick keys, menus for any number of things from tone indicators, to emojis to bot commands. Its just been really helpful, even if it took a while to set up. Worth the effort.
An excellent app, and the only one in the entire Play Store that offers such a fully customizabe keyboard. Being able to place each key and resize all of them is amazing. The only thing i dislike about the current version is that it doesn't seem to have an autocorrect feature. Even with the ability to customize the keys with such high precision, autocorrect is essential for effective phone typing. Other than that, I'm really liking this keyboard!
I love this app! It does a LOT more than I expected, so I bought the upgrades right away. The amount of customization is fantastic! Still, it's not perfect. There seems to be a bug where after I share and save the file to my Drive, hitting 'OK' or hitting back doesn't do anything. I have to leave the app (not necessarily close it) to back out of the save dialog box and get back to the app. Uploading a pic froze it. Had to reinstall which has made me reluctant to try that again.
An seems to be an incredible improvement since I last reviewed this keyboard. There's a lot to check before I can complete this review but my initial reaction was that I thought the app broken because nothing happens when tapping the keyboard name in the list of installed keyboards to configure. This must launch the configuration screen! Also, the language used needs reviewing including the many incorrect uses of "it's." "It's" can only mean "it is" or "it has" -- there's no ownership of "its."
It's the best keyboard I've ever used. Others let me customise, but not to this extent, and they can lag, or have some other issue in use. The import/export method is a bit wonky, and doesn't work unless your clipboard can take fifty two thousand characters, which my new phone can't do. Maybe a bitly link to a temporary webpage, which does some computer wizardy? I dunno, I just use these things. Aside from the importing, it's an amazing keyboard, and I shill it to my friends every other month.
This. App. Rules. PERIOD. Make your dream keyboard the exact way you want it with no compromises. Incredibly detailed so it has a slight learning curve and can take a little time to get everything perfect but you only have yourself to blame for any issues. Seriously amazing. Also offers many unique features I haven't seen anywhere else. Bravo dev!!!
If you takw your time to create your own keyboard layout. For me as a linguist and conlanger, is was useful to be able to self-define the pop-up keys, these are those you have to keep pressed to see, because for the different IPA symbols I need dayly. One downside includes the time and afford you have to put into it, because you are unable to copy-paste a design, mode, or key, into another one. A very positive thing in my opinion is that you can also bind actions to a key, like cursor-movement.
I love this app. I'm learning how to code and coding on a phone is obviously not as quick as on a computer...but this app has allowed me to design my own keyboard tailored specifically to my needs. I am able to use so many different symbols and shortcuts without having to go through multiple pages of keys. I purchased the add ons to customize it even further. My only issue is I can't figure out how to enable AutoCorrect/predictive text while using a custom keyboard. That would truly complete it!
Downloaded this app earlier and I've been messing with it all day, it's a very powerful tool that does everything I wanted but didn't know was available. The only thing I'm missing is predictive text/auto correct, but apparently that is in the works. My only criticsm is that the GUI could use a little love but that can be forgiven in favour of all the functionality. Excellent app!
Designing my own keyboard just as I like it is FABULOUS! To each key, you can assign separate actions to tap, hold, swipe up, down, left, and right! You can choose the number of rows, the sizes and colors of the keys, and the colors of the markings on the keys. I did the optional in-app purchases so I could assign long phrases and F1 through F12 to some of the actions. The app comes with many keyboards, even one for your smartwatch!
1/10, do not recommend. I spent about half an hour customizing to my liking, making the keyboard as short or as tall as I wanted. I removed keys that I never really used and were useless in the long run. But then I tested it out and found it nearly impossible to type without having to confirm that, yes, I was clicking that letter. I had to double tap letters to get what I wanted, no matter what setting I changed
Best custom keyboard app ever. Everything I could theoretically want is possible, the customization is unreal. This is the compliment to the default keyboard I've been looking for. Only critique is that it would be nice to have a sliding menu option, similar to how the default keyboard lets you choose emojis. I would be willing to pay for a feature like that.
