Keylight PRO 2.0

Shooting off-camera flash photography is challenging. Optimal exposure settings require a knowledge of how to correctly balance ISO sensitivity, aperture level, strobe power and strobe proximity to the subject. Strobe intensity varies dramatically between manufacturers and models, and when external light modifiers such as umbrellas, soft-boxes and lighting gels are used, quickly determining correct exposure settings can be challenging at best, and frustrating at the worst.
KeyLight PRO was designed to remove all of this guesswork. Easy-to-use calculators quickly and clearly display optimal ISO levels, aperture settings, strobe power levels and strobe-to-subject distances for an endless variety of strobe configurations in an intuitive, familiar interface.

For the more advanced photographer, the Key Falloff calculator will calculate the proximity of the strobe from the subject in order to meet a desired exposure value falloff over a specific distance. For example, the wall behind a subject is 4 feet away, should be 3 stops underexposed, the camera is at ISO 400 and the aperture is f/8. What should the power output be on the strobe, and how far from the subject should it be placed? With KeyLight PRO, the answer is a tap away.

How many strobes does KeyLight PRO support? The Virtual Gear Bag in the Trial Edition allows up to three (3) strobe configurations, while the Premium Edition supports an unlimited number of strobe makes, models and settings.

The Strobe Library provides convenient online access to over 100 pre-loaded strobe model configurations and is available in both the Trial and Premium Editions.

The Gear Bag is readily accessible from all of the calculators, providing quick, easy and accurate exposure settings when swapping between strobe configurations. Only using one strobe? Keep multiple "set ups" in your Gear Bag for a variety of configurations: bare bulbed, gelled, soft-boxed, umbrellaed, neutral-density filtered, wall-bounced, go-bo'd. There is no limit to the number of ways the light from a single strobe can be modified. In the Premium Edition you can create as many configurations for these light modifiers as you need, and know in an instant how to most effectively utilize them.

KeyLight PRO was inspired by the marvelous teachings of David Hobby, a.k.a the Strobist, and many other great off-axis photographers in the Blog-o-sphere.

Great app just what i am looking for. It doesn't have the flash i have but it does have one with same specs so great. Now down side it dont have any neewer speedlight settings would be good if you could add these and also it dont have any studio strobe options just seems to be on/off camera flashes. But over all for what it is its great

No more guesswork and multiple test shots. This app really rocks :) Also, very nice SLR-inspired design. One objection: guys, please put more preconfigured entries to strobes DB. You don't have anything from m4/3 system yet, but Olympus and Panasonic have quite nice range of external flashes. Same goes to Fujifilm and Sony.

I have been a professional photographer and photography instructor for over 40+ years and your program, KeyLight Pro is one of the best photographic tools that I have used. It really makes my shooting more accurate and much quicker. After having tested the “free” unit and finding it outstanding I knew I had to upgrade—glad I did. And I only have one minor suggestion to improve the program. One of the things that I have done and which would benefit most photographers is that I set up my umbrellas (at a fixed distance from the light meter) in every configuration (I.E. shoot through, reflected silver, reflected white,) then I set up my soft boxes and do the same (i.e. diffusion, beauty dish, no diffusion). I shoot these with the flash I normally use (SB910 at full power). At each step I take a light meter reading and enter that data into the KeyLight Pro program. Then the next time I have to shoot I already know the flash settings, camera settings and distance settings that I need and I know them in advance. No more light meter reading. You have made it very simple. I just enter “Silver Umbrella reflected) or whatever the set up is. If a person does not have a light meter they could

Useful to a point, but really should display or calculate a chosen shutter speed. I can only imagine it defaults to 1/125 for compatibility. Those saying it's unimportant, don't assume we are using lights inside! I would like support for multiple lights, ie key light + fill + hair light. This is important as setting multiple lights based on distance to subject alone will result in overexposing the subject.

Although a good app for making speedlight calculations, it is seriously out of date as far as more recent (and older) speedlight models are concerned... Given that this app hasn't been updated for a few years now also the developer website and email address nolonger exist, I doubt there will be anymore updates, sadly 🙁🙁

KeyLight Pro hangs and crashes when I attempt to list pre defined flash models or when I simply open the list of my gear after registering 1 flash. So it seems that it hangs on the network access when it tries to validate the license (whether i can use the 2nd flash unit), or when it attempts to download the list of standard flash models. The device in question is LG G4 running the stock version of Android 5.1. Needless to say that I have no problems acessing other content on my high speed network.

This app is a great help and takes the guess work out of setting up lighting - which before now had been a bit trial and error for me. The upgrade to the premium version is well worth it, costing only pennies. I would suggest you ignore reviews complaining about lack of shutter speed, as this doesn't apply to flash/strobe photography. The shutter speed controls the amount of ambient light effecting the exposure - most flashes fire for a very short period of time (e.g. 1/10000s), far shorter than the fastest shutter speed supported on many SLRs, so shutter speed is irrelevant. This app is about calculating set-up for flash lighting, not ambient, and it does a very good job of that, taking the guess work out of the process.

Yongnuo 568 flash for Nikon which has been out for a long time. Not supported/listed. Probably a great app IF your flash manufacturer AND model are in its database. Not for me.

As a previous reviewer has stated, this app now hangs when trying to access the flash list.

Fundamentally, this could be a great App. Just don't purchase it unless you are using dated equipment. This app is badly in need of gear updates

If one purchases the upgrade, it is possible to put an entire guide number table in this app for handy access during calculations. Very useful I think...

Easy app to use that takes the guess work out of power strobe setting and placement. What a nice application for assisting users with power, placement, and camera settings.

Easy to use. But I want to buy premium version thur official google play store, rather than in-app purchase.

Mar. G. Oct 27, 2014

Easy to use and takes a lot of the guess work out of manual flash.

Brilliant app! Makes lighting with flash simple and accurate. It's wizard! The only issue I have is that when trying to upgrade to premium, the app crashes, so I can't upgrade... It'd be very useful if I could! Otherwise, it's absolutely brilliant!

This is by far the best app I have ever bought for photography
