- install Torque Pro first and start Knock Detector from Torque's main menu and make sure OBD2 adapter is connected. While driving at low rpm on 3rd gear just press throttle to max position and wait a safe period of time. Test will start automatically and finish as you depress pedal. Notification sounds will be played. Test will cover the passed rev range. If testing on automatic gear box ensure that gears are not switched during the test. Warning

In order to work on all car models Knock Detector uses heuristic algorithm to find detonations. It is based on analysis of timing advance, throttle, revs and speed. On some ECUs it may report knocks but the reason could be timing retard because of specific factory tune.
Knock Detector will not report minor car specific knock events so it can also miss some detonations. However it will report ECU learned detonations. Such knock events will likely disappear at some moment. Detonations can be real or fake, they can appear and disappear, so there is no reason to worry if such are reported. Detonation may be caused just by depressing the throttle at high revs. Some stock ECUs pull timing 0.5
- 1.00 even on WOT so fake knock will be detected.
Engine coolant and intake air temperaturesare also monitored as major knock factors. Avoid spirited driving or testing when both values are not green
- too cold or too hot temperatures can cause detonations.

Works, accidentally put 5 gallons of diesel in my car and it detected it
Use with Torque
Assuming it's hooked up/in correctly, it doesn't seem to do anything. The air temp always reads 32®, no matter the outside temp. The little bar moves, but never enuff to give a reading. I can only hold the pedal floored for so long. I"ll keep trying.
Soooo... I have 5 stars because After reading the reviews I saw the Developer was very quick to respond to each person, BUT! No instructions...Really? I am a girl and how am I supposed to know you need the car in 3rd gear? I ran the test in park and the app held my RPM's at 3000 and said no detonation were detected. I was really freaked out before I realized I wasn't going to red line if I floored it...Actually it gave me a huge adrenalin rush! Not so good at the time but funny now...lol So, what does it mean is wrong with your car if you do have detonations and what exactly causes the problem and what exactly do you need repaired when detonations are detected? Last, but not least of all.... Thank you for all the hard work you have done in creating this app... :)
First off... Instructions on how to use it would be nice. I believe you are to floor it in 3rd gear. Is that supposed to be from a stop... Don't know. I see the throttle indicator move, and temps move around, but I keep having to back off because of speed and engine rpm. Don't think it is necessary to go 100mph in third to test it. Am I not doing something right? Or does it do nothing if there is no knock? Using it on a 2013 f150 ecoboost.
This crashes every time I try to open it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times.
I rev to redline but it only puts me at 55%. I will try again tomorrow
I can tell which gas stations give a little bit less than 93 octane now :-) My car doesn't really give full throttle until it's nearly at its maximum RPM, but close enough to work.
Price and easy access make this a great light wieght app for both code and sensor readings
Soo, doing more studies using this add on and it needs an update. I test on the streets going maybe 45mph max and it shows on the results I'm going about 90mph.
I can't get this to work with a 2003 v6 Saturn vue. Shows throttle is not at 100% when it is to the floor.
Does not work for my 2010 civic. Full throttle does not respond or the rev limit kicks in
It did what it would say, but it doesn't test for knocks under partial throttle, which my car is undergoing right now. But thanks so much for the app.
Hooked it up, got on the interstate with it, test never ended. The status bar fluctuated and got as high as your screen shot for the app preview (63%)and thats it. I got the prius to 101mph and this thing never completed its task.
Doesn't provide knock counts, Doesn't tell you which cylinder is knocking, Can't read knock unless you hold wot for many seconds, Can't read knock at idle, Overall more of a gimmick than a useful tool.
I downloaded this app and used it with torque pro on my 2005 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor and tested it twice. Both times the app stated no detonations
Other than the throttle percent gauge showing 88% while at full throttle, the plugin worked perfectly on my G8 GT. I'm running an 87 octane tune and the car runs strong so this plugin makes me feel confident in running the car hard.
I was worried my engine has detonations, but made 5 tests wit this app and now I can sit back and enjoy my margarita - no detonations ;) Cheers
On my X's ara Picasso I have it in 3rd gear then when I put my foot down revs go all the way up but the test don't start .also full throttle is only 65%
I have not yet tryout the app but soon i do let you know.
Seems to work well. Just start the app, open the throttle fully (press the gas pedal all the way down) and wait a few seconds until it says it is done.
Hope i can find the things in need to do stuff.

Doesnt allow you to save, log or even use the normal GS4's screen shot to log the valuable info on the engine vitals of when the detonation is occurring... Wth?
Its OK but behaving trouble with Afr not working which is one of the reasons I bought this setup
