Kontalk is a secure instant messenger, allowing you to send and receive text, image and voice messages (other file types coming soon) to and from other Kontalk users completely free of charge (*).
• Your phone number is your ID. No usernames or passwords
• It automatically finds other Kontalk users by looking at your address book, making it even easier to start chatting on Kontalk with your friends
• End-to-end encryption ensures safe and private conversations, so that only you and the person you are talking to can read them
• Your and all phone numbers used on the network are irreversibly encrypted
• It supports multiple devices, making it very easy to start chatting on your phone and continue the conversation on your tablet
• Based on open standards: XMPP and OpenPGP
Kontalk is a completely Open Source community project, with all the source code hosted on GitHub (https://github.com/kontalk), allowing everyone to inspect its security and improve it.

After last update the app keeps crashing with "has stopped" message.
Noway matter. Register an chat over phone number = NOWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Than I use WA/Telegram/Signal/ and so on

This app is not working you need to do more work.
Better then whatsapp : - OpenSource - end to end encryption - OpenStandards (XMPP and OpenPGP) - install on more devices possible - no data mining by facebook
I wonder why my previous positive comments were deleted. Is it not sufficient proof that ranking & reviews at Playstore are manipulated by Google in favour of big companies.

Kontalk does what it says, and Kontalk does it well. Privacy and security are mandatory in this app. The developers are also patient and amazingly helpful, certainly a bonus in a community project. I only urge and request these hard-working helpful community not to give up on the basis of some very clearly biased negative comments. Those who use it, use it passionately and one day Kontalk will grow to be much bigger and more widespread! Thank you!
Good secure messaging. Security and privacy is important these days! App looks great, but the iOS emojis look out of place, should use system emojis. Would make app size smaller too.

good application but after updating not working perfectly.
This is a very gud app i like its go offline and hide presence feature but the developer should work on the other features like other media plugins and add themes also.... I m sure this app will going to be the best i will tell to my friends about this app..
great app, could replace whatsapp eventually. I hope more developers join efforts to have a crossplatform whatsapp replacement with better privacy.
The best open source chat app based on XMPP protocol. Please keep going on developing this awesome project. -the messages I received is always "(encrypted)"
The only feature I'm missing is "send on enter". Also it would be great if there were more emoticons & the emoticon selector be on the left side of the typing bar for easier access. Thank you.
This is one of the slickest looking opensource clients available for android. Love to see this project taking off.

Well I recently installed this app and em unable to receive the verification code in Karachi Pakistan ! Is your service available in Pakistan?
In par with whatsapp and better in privacy.
Along with signal private messenger and surespot this is probably the most secure messenger. Open souce? Yes! End-to-end encrypted? Tick! Noncommercial? You bet!
