Very fun app to mess around with. Good controls to quickly make interesting beats. I really don't like the way the app looks though. Looks very.. unfinished? Amateurish? Idk, I just hate the UI. Also wish there was a few more controls, effects, or customizable XY parameters. Those are small complaints though. It's a solid app all around and easy to use. I highly recommend it for anyone who is into making music.

There's one MAJOR PROBLEM that ruins this app: it has NO GRID showing where one note ends and another begins. So when you're playing, you have to remember exactly where to touch to get the correct note. Doing this on a small screen is almost impossible. It's really quite a shame, because otherwise the app would be fantastic. But the lack of a visible reference makes it nearly useless as a serious instrument. Who knows - perhaps that was Korg's intention all along.

This is really great. Had a real kaossilator a while ago but it broke. This is almost as good as the real thing. Though one thing would really improve it, aside from expanding it to do more, is: add a simple auto-adjusting grid just to show note and filter changes. The blinking lights look nice I guess but doesn't help produce anything that sounds intentional, rather, overly experimental as notes are missed.

I was hoping the app's controls would be a bit more accessible since I'm blind and use the TalkBack screen reader. I would understand if the pad for the sounds needed TalkBack to be turned off in order for it to be used, but not one single button can be focused. This is very disheartening, as the app is fully usable on iOS with the VoiceOver screen reader. There are limitations to how well they can make it work on Android, but it can definitely be made so that blind folks can use it. Please look into this. Feel free to reach out, and I'd be glad to assist.

Great potential. Ridiculously difficult to turn mute or solo on a part as 9/10 times the tiny gesture causes the part to change or worse yet you might lose your data by switching parts accidentally while enraged at the impossibility of playing live because you know you definitely aren't going to mute or solo a part at any given time. It's a 10 second struggle, but then you finally change the part, sometimes. Other times you destroy everything because the mini nano swipe you have to pull off is surrounded by all sorts of commands, much more easily triggered than the mini swipe. Overall quite great, but I would love easier to use controls tool overcome the limitations of using on phone. Bigger buttons, gestures that don't conflict with other commands so easily and also not restarting itself so often, somehow be able to give it permission to take the system priority and cancel/lockout the ability to swipe from the top frame and use the home/bottom buttons, so that accidentally going too far off the pad in performance doesn't start a bunch of silly nonsense. I'd love the app to take itself seriously enough that it can be used in performance, so it needs to be able to lock out incoming calls and Android system prompts if possible.

I was initially skeptical. At first it felt limited and I was ready to return it for refund. But once I started messing around, tweaking the built-in grooves to make them less cheesy, I discovered that I can import my own samples! Then power of this way of working opened up! Understanding how saving works and locating the file folder in /Android/data/jp.korg.kaossiltaor.android/ was annoying. But this app is fun, sounds great, and is powerful. I'm adding this to my live setup!

Great having it for free. However, this app is "meh" at best. It produces some ok things. I like the pad design, however it is impossible to get accurate notes played when you want as u cant see buttons, just black square. Again i like this pad style, but its no good for accuracy. I cannot believe this costs nearly £20 normally! What an absolute rip off. There are apps out there that are always free and produce far better audio and offer far more accuracy. 2 stars cause its free.

The "light show" you see during playback of the supplied loops is SO cool. And creating your own loops is straightforward. So why only 4 stars? (Even tho it was free) Note entry is just too frustrating. It DESPERATELY needs a horizontal grid to indicate the note. I realize that a violin, for example, has no "grid" to show the note. But I'm not gonna practice for months to create a two bar loop. I'm on the feature request slippery slope here. Note volume, octave, etc? For now I demand the grid.

I've been playing with it for about a day now so this is an early review. It's fun to make loops with and I think with practice it would be good for live performances. That said the interface is a little confusing with little to no instructions. I still don't fully understand the file saving. Not sure if you can save a project, looks like exporting a wav is the only option. I'd love to save it so I can try something else and then come back to the current project later. Ideally I'd like a timeline to mix the loops I make or at least an easy way to save out the loop as separate instruments so I can mix them in another program.

Having purchased the hardware version previously, this app is far more advanced than it's predecessor. I recommend this app for any budding, or advanced, electronic musicians. Fun, easy to use, and for all ages. Hours of fun, beats, chords, and noise!

Could best app Ive used... currently in limbo though. I was lucky to grab this for free at beginning of covid lockdown. Took some time to workout how to control it and I made quite few things... but it doesnt work all of a sudden. Immediately crashes on launch. I have quite a bit of material locked up in the play list that I cant access now. Can I reinstall?... I dont want to uninstall and lose everything. Plesse let me know... Thanks... hoping I can get back what I've created at least.

It'd be nice to put somewhere on the app that is a reoccurring charge of 1999. For 1999 a month being recharged this app isn't worth it unless you were a professional making money off that one song or that one album you might as well save up a little money and buy. The Korg kp3 or the newer version with the 1999 a month. Save it for 6 months and by herself a used version of the full tangible kp3. Rather than having limited options on a phone app and having a reoccurring charge. What a scam

This app wouldn't be too bad if it didn't randomly overwrite loop save files. Comments in these reviews about this issue go back to 05/31/17. I've had this same issue myself--from the version I first downloaded, and in each of the three updates Korg has releases since, including the latest. I did email Korg more details earlier this year, but that didn't get anywhere. On the bright side my battery lasts days longer when I don't use this app.

I'm gonna give it to Korg for making this kaossilator. It's really brought out some musical inspiration in myself. My one and only complaint is that sometimes loops I make end up "Corrupted" When I select them they won't play and I lose that loop forever. It makes me sad. If that issues was resolved I would give this app a full rating.

Got this for free during the start of the pandemic in 2020. I would not purchase it if it was not free though. Can't say it's super useful for audio production but it's a fun little gadget to mess around with and get some cool sounds from. Will require quite a bit of tinkering and practice to make it useful, but still fun!

I had the original physical kaossilator and it was great. This gets a lot of what made that so good. But and it's a big but, it randomly crashes when loading songs I saved. Why would I want to work on something in this if it's just going to destroy it on me. This app is so close to being awesome you guys just need to properly QA it and add some of things people are asking for here. It would be worth the 20 bucks then. Right now it isn't.

I really have no clue about music and audio. A dj friend of mine mentioned this in passing while we were at dinner. I saw it on sale the next day in the play store. It is amazing what you can do with this app. I love apps that increase my knowledge of stuff and being able to explore sound with this thing when bored is amazing.

Art. B. Mar 22, 2020

Been enjoying using Kaossilator in the past few days since it was announced for free. I made and saved a bunch of quality loops. That is, until it suddenly decided not to run anymore. Now it just crashes upon starting the app. Only option is to re-install. All my work gone.

Jam. N. Mar 17, 2020

Easy to learn and a lot of fun to use, but has a tendency to freeze and lock up my device. Varies a little in severity but typically I end up getting stuck on a single screen. I can bring up the power menu but the buttons just get dismissed upon touch, necessitating a force reset of my device.

Sha. G. May 12, 2022

It's great but so annoying not having a grid to know what notes your playing. Feels impossible to play a deliberate melody without clearing the part and waiting for the loop to start again over and over until you get it right

Chr. R. Oct 23, 2019

This is a fun app but it lacks any means of synchronising with other devices. If it could send a timing pulse to my Pocket Operators or Volcas then it would become vastly more useful. As it is, it's a tool for playing and inspiration bit no more. (Hint for Korg: please add a timing pulse!)

Dav. L. Aug 4, 2020

It does what it does and fairly well. Given the state of audio latency on Android, it's no surprise that Kaossilator is the only app Korg has released, but I'm still surprised at how fluidly it runs on Android devices- it really is amazing I'm not giving it 5 stars because precision playing with notes is too difficult, due to how close the semitones are. If Korg added midi keyboard support, I'd say this is a "must have" for Android users and easily worthy of the money

Phi. G. Mar 20, 2020

This is a very capable synth app that is easy to learn and addicting to explore and play. Korg outdid themselves by making it a free app at a time when people need some fun things to distract them from stressful situations and "social distancing." Kudos to Korg, and thanks!
