I love KQED programming, which makes this all the more disappointing. The app crashes stops and starts constantly. I can't get thru one 3-5 segment without it crashing and then I have to reset the feed. Lame
Constantly cuts in and out even with full 5G connection.
I live in an area where listening to KQED is difficult, particularly when moving around. Still, I find the poor sound quality of the FM signal preferable to this app. It totally ruins the listening experience. A commercial KQED with regular ad breaks would be preferable to this. Those channels at least stop the program while having a commercial break. Here you get interrupted by ads playing on top of the programs, usually the same ad repeated over and over again every few minutes. Horrible.
I love KQED. However, every time my phone switches from the cell network to WiFi and vice versa, or when I receive notifications from other apps, or when I switch from using my headphones to listening through the phone's speaker, this app plays a sponsorship message, which can be quite long. This causes me to miss parts of the live stream, which can be an important part of the conversation. Why not play the sponsorship message once per session to eliminate this issue? It is extremely frustrating.
This is the worst phone app I've every used. Í'm a KQED donor, but no way to block pledges on this app like in a browser. Also, plays an ad every time to start-up or change networks moving around. The previous app was very unreliable. I recently updated to the latest version and it is almost completely useless. I've had to rely on listening to KQED on my phone or laptop browser to get a reliable connection at home or on the go.
Edit: I'm so happy you fixed the wifi issue! It is so much better. Thank you! Original: Please fix your app so it doesn't cut the feed and play the intro/sponsored by message everytime a phone switches between wifi and Mobile network. I constantly miss the most important segments of the news because of this. I'm a sustaining member, and this is infuriating.
I've used this app for a few years as a sustaining member, tolerating the ads every time I've had to pause for even a second but now it seems to be completely broken. New update? How about a negative timer on the ads if you've already been listening in the last few minutes. And don't release till glitches are out please. Don't even want to give you a star- can't get the app to turn on at all rn.
Love KQED, but app could use improvement. Every time my connection switches between networks while streaming the radio (wifi or cellular) the sponsored message that is only meant to be played at the very start of listening (when you press play) replays over and over. My house has 4 networks, so when I walk around I get the sponsored message every few minutes, cutting out the radio. Please create a repeat limit for the ad, where it can only repeat every hour or something.
The App has been updated and now works well. If you had trouble before download the update and give it a try!
Drops after a while, have to reopen often.
I am a sustaining member of KQED. The app has been quirky - dropping and requiring me to reconnect. Now, it will not connect. Pressing the start arrow starts a buffering message and then goes back to off with the start arrow again appearing. It is time to completely revise this app for KQED listeners and supporters.
Pretty aggravating to use. Just can't seem to play for even 20 minutes with out having to be paused and restarted multiple times. Does this using the phone speaker or with Bluetooth devices. I have a new pixel with current OS and have reinstalled the app a few times
Worthless. It keeps interrupting the stream by refreshing its intro commerical every 2 or 3 minutes. I followed the help info to refresh the buffer several times, but it was no help.
Frequently just stops playing. Gets stuck rebuffering. Have to stop and restart the app. First app launch crashes in a few seconds second launch usually work. Old app was better as it just worked. Using a Samsung S21 on Tmobile.
I keep getting dropped also and have to reconnect. Now just buffers when I press PLAY and returns to the PAUSE button. I'm also a sustaining member and very disappointed in this app. Help us enjoy KQED
Too much advertising and other annoncements every time you open it. Buffering issues are frequent and I'm on fiber optic. Far too many issues, I have to drop to 1 star.
Keeps dropping - forces multiple sponsor ads. Would love to know why their website streaming never drops but this does. A rare major FAIL for KQED and I resent my support for KQED every time I try to use this app and it buries you in voice ads because of constant dropping of the feed. I don't believe their techs can't detect that you were already listening. It would me a MINOR script in the app. Shame on KQED
Thanks for fixing the bug I complained about. I appreciate you being responsive!
For local bay area news nothing beats kqed podcasts. Bay Curious, the Bay, forum, are my favorites. The single best podcast ever (literally of all time, ever!) is the Bay Curious episode about the POPCORN / telephone time lady. They have an interview with actual popcorn lady. OMG It was such a throwback to growing up in the late 70s early 80s. Anyway 😜
I love KQED, but the audio constantly drops out with this app. I now use "Tune In Radio" instead, and it works perfectly.
Has not worked for over a month. Both on my phone and on my cars Infotainment system. Contacted KQED support, no response. Finally decided to delete it
This has got to be the worst public radio app ever. It stalls, stutters, refuses to play live stream or podcasts, ALL THE TIME. Don't bother as you'll be immensely frustrated. Zero stars. 1 week later, continued stutters, dropped streams, etc. Still zero stars. I will soon be a former supporter of KQED. They clearly cannot get this to work. Big shiny new building in SF but, actual broadcasts don't seem in their priority list.
