Frustrating to use. As a paying subscriber I want to use the enewspaper, which reproduces the layout of the print edition. However... If I touch the screen over an article it jumps to that particular article. Once that happens, going back to the enewspaper format has problems. The enewspaper loses count of which page it's on. I.e., it will indicate it is showing the 1st page but actually display the 2nd page. The 1st page is then innaccessible.

As a subscriber, I'm sad to see this app being so broken when it matters most. The app sends a breaking news notification, you tap on it.... and then wait up to 20 seconds on a modern phone. When the app shows up, a good chunk of the time it thinks you are not a subscriber, claims you are out of articles, and redirects you to the homepage to find the article that brought you there on your own. I'm unsubscribing, due to this app's poor behavior making it feel useless.

Can the billing and account management side of this app please be updated? It will not remove delivery address no longer applicable and although my paper copy is delivered to the correct current address, the old address is forever labeled as " current" in the app and website. There is no edit option. Paying for the subscription through the app is always hit or miss also.......mostly miss. Please update. It's too limiting on that side of the app.

Mostly good experience, but the settings page shows only section headers and toggle buttons. I have to guess where to touch to get to the page where I can put my paper on hold.

The app used to be better. You can't highlight small articles (like obituaries) anymore. Suddenly the ability to print or share articles is gone too. Waiting for a response from LA Times.

Android version is outdated compared to iOS. Still has the clunky download option where you have to select pages and generate a PDF. But once generated the link doesn't work--I click it repeatedly but nothing happens.

"You've reached your monthly free article limit." That's the warning I get whenever I click on a news notification. I am logged into the app and have been subscribed for years and can read any article that I don't access a notification.

Jam. B. Mar 16, 2022

Dismal handling of notifications. Most of the time I click, wait 30 seconds, when the app comes up, it incorrectly says I'm not a subscriber and kicks me to the front page. But when I check, it shows I'm signed in and subscribed.

The news is fine -- although I would prefer more weekly delivery options for digital only. The deal breaker is still having ads even though I pay for a subscription. This is absolutely not acceptable. Period. Companies seem to think the problem is targeted ads vs non-targeted ads and "protecting user data". No! The problem is advertising itself when I already pay with my wallet! This is entirely user hostile and exactly why LA Times has such high turnover for digital subscriptions.

Lui. C. May 1, 2022

Awful loading times. It takes more than 20 seconds to load an article.

Canceling my subscription due to a combination of things. Seeing the same story appear multiple times in multiple sections. Seeing the same story at the top of a section for over a week. The app is very sensitive and will scroll left or right to a new article while trying to scroll up or down in the current one I'm reading. No way to just see a list of all articles instead of a "curated" list that repeats articles multiple times. Buttons for changing font, bookmarking and sharing pop up on the side if you scroll up even slightly, obscuring article text. Finally, getting emails almost every day with subscription deals after I've already subscribed.

How is there no "night mode"? Clearly someone thought through the required color scheme, as it's in place if you click on the "Settings" icon in the top right-hand corner. When clicking on their lead article (while I was already logged-in to the app), I was prompted to login again as though I were using a web browser. How does a newspaper with the 4th largest circulation in the U.S. have such a mediocre app? It's jaw-dropping when compared with the apps for WaPo or the NYT.

The content is fantastic, however there are two fundamental issues with this app: 1. The advertisements at the bottom of the enewspaper. So freaking annoying! We are already paid subscribers. For a few pennies, why on earth would you anoy the ---- out of us by making us click to get rid of an advertisement and then accidently click on it. 2. Upload all of the content when opening the app. I am sick and tired of waiting for content to load when it could have all been loaded when I opened the app

Photos will not load in this version. I am a long time subscriber to the LA Times and am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with this latest version. I have to use a Web browser if I want to see photos. The Times makes certain that the adverts load but no photos. You need to make the headline photos smaller and loadable. The tablet and phone version help me on the go. But, are of little value if I have to go to a desktop to read the LA Times.

If you thought previous versions of the obnoxious and pop-up heavy Los Angeles Times app was horrible, try the new one that just came out. Awful. And to the extent this is even possible the supposedly improved website is even worse than the app. Crashes my PC after freezing up every time. The Los Angeles Times: The gang that couldn't shoot straight.

The mobile app team for the LA times is great with customer communication and receiving feedback. I'm super happy about the dark mode in this latest release. Definitely impressed with how smooth it runs, the layout, and overall feel of the app. You can tell that they put some thought into it and how well organized it is. I'm a newer subscriber who thought I would just like the print version, but this mobile app has been an amazing addition what with everything Covid. Keep up the great work!

Updated 12/7/20: Re. the app: love the ongoing improvements. I can now share articles to more than just FB! (lost that ability several weeks ago.) I still can't highlight text to copy/share as a quote (although a call to customer support showed me how to do this via the eNewspaper. just a pain.) Good linking to related stories. Re. the content: as a non-native, I love the coverage of local and regional stories, as well as the perspective on broader issues and events. Glad I decided to subscribe.

I'm a paid subscriber and reading online from browser or app on my galaxy note is so aggravating. 75% of text is out of focus in main sections but once you tap an article to zoom in it clears up. So in order to view the text clearly every article must be clicked on which is a complete waste of time. Compared to say the AP News app which is brillant. Get it together Times or you'll lose yet another paying customer.

Worst news app I've used to date. Ads near the top menu bar interfere with menu choices. CONSTANTLY asks to show me the new features, regardless of which option you pick. Rather than a home page that lets you scroll through everything, you get the top stories, which simply repeat in different formats further down the page. An uninstalling.

Kel. C. Jun 7, 2019

I uninstalled this app last year because it failed to load properly. Have just tried it out again today. It is still terrible: articles repeatedly fail to load but will display an inane "Whoops!..." error message or they fail to load but will display a shimmering white screen making you think that maybe it will load. Fails about 2/3rds of the time.

Bar. C. Jul 16, 2019

Not very good. 1st grade app code Everytime it does an update I have to log in again. The link to email an article is broken. Worst of all it keeps on telling me to subscribe. I am a subscriber, to both print and digital. WaPo, NY Times, and others don't have these issues, my home town paper... not so much

Rox. R. Apr 14, 2019

Love using the app to read articles, but every time I go back to the home page, I get a pop up asking me if I'd like a tour of the new features. Lately none of the photos have been loading for articles. I have a paid subscription, and when I tried contacting support for the app, they couldn't find any record of my account.

Often blocks access (says 4 free items reached while setup shows me logged in and having unlimited access) and because of this requires FREQUENT logout/login to access. Imagine getting an alert, clicking to learn more, and BAM! Ad to subscribe pops up with Limit Reached notice! Love LATimes but app stinks. Reported problem but was advised to logout/login. Really?! Repeatedly throughout the day?! Seriously considering dropping subscription.

Tim. W. Dec 24, 2021

App constantly supplies notifications about new articles. Click on the news story and it'll tell you you've used up your free articles... Even if you're a signed-in, paying subscriber! I wonder how many subscribers end their subscriptions because the app didn't work properly on Android 11, and doesn't work properly on Android 12. App devs: instead of telling people to uninstall and reinstall and hope they go away... Why don't you fix your chronically malfunctioning app? Shameful.

J. S. Oct 19, 2019

Generally sucky & Does *not* allow use of sd card to install itself onto so instead bloats internally until that requires it be uninstalled completely so other apps or saved pages/open tab cache's in chrome etc. can bloat instead. "mini opera", "earth" ETC!!! can be moved to CARD &! cache MOST data to it ALSO freeing up hundreds of megs additional! Apps default to being locked internally residing from inept negligence without cause. It is by far the easiest improvement. UNINSTALLED!

Tho. S. Feb 13, 2019

ability to scroll and magnify articles is great. only real complaint is how much battery power app uses when its closed! i read 2 articles and then closed the app and even an hour later its used 12% of my battery! thats huge. i cant find a way to scale back how much computing power it uses but if i go on a long trip where im away from a charger. im going to straight up delete it. fix this guys!

Food coverage: great Comic (on e newspaper last page or whatever)s :funny STOP, HYDRATE, writers witty reporters snitchy

Jua. J. Aug 19, 2019

8/20 - you state its a know issue, and to solve, do what doesnt work ? how is thst a solution ? 8/19Embarrassing that it never works right. every single version has had the same issue, downloading for offline viewing never works. once downloaded, you still need internet access. whats the point ! Ive put up with extreme leftist journalism ( im a dem ) to atleast have news to read while supporting my local paper. i no longer feel need to continue my subscription.

Tim. S. Feb 3, 2020

This app is an inferior newspaper app that doesn't allow downloading of all or at least most of the newspaper for offline viewing. The android app for the New York Times allows such. Also, the android apps for the Sacramento Bee and the Fresno Bee. If the LA Times is working to achieve this for its app, it shouldn't waste time. Do it now!

Ash. N. Mar 23, 2020

Basic news app style, good enough. Better search than the NYT app. One annoying thing: clicking a link in an article that is for a different LA Times article opens the new one in a web browser rather than in the app.
