I like that the inkl subscription provides access to multiple periodicals and a philosophy of not personalizing the Lead Stories feed.
Fantastic at what it does; curate news sources (sometimes) locked behind pay walls into one easy to nagivate source. There's something like 60 world news sites housed under this roof, with some outstanding notables (Reuters, NYT, etc.). What is missing are NPR, AP, and WaPo though, a little bummed about those (although AP and NPR are typically free). Otherwise, if you want an aggregator service, I highly suggest this one. Pricing is good, 10$ a month. Worth it!
This app is only a 7 day trial, not a full app. Dishonest marketing. Exorbitantly expensive.
Finally a news app that brings together selected stories across the world. Love the deep dive option to read further on a story. Reducing 1 star 🌟 because I would like to see more diverse stories.
It's great to be able to read news without ads and endless cookie requests, but I have found the jerky scrolling through the articles list a little annoying. It's hardly like I'm using a low end phone. Some sections also seem to be dominated by one publisher, not sure why this is the case if you're striving for balanced content. Also please add a disable option for notifications - I shouldn't have to force my phone to block them
I've been looking for a news source that is comprehensive and allows me to get the news without advertising...and this is it! Reading the news is faster, since my phone isn't loading ads. I also find it more thought-provoking, since getting to the end of the article has fewer distractions. More news sources would make this better...I like the methodology used to select news sources and articles, but I would like to see more news sources.
A wonderful news source that curates articles from publications around the world. The small subscription charge is more than worth the money as it supports those who create the articles in the first place. In short a brilliant service.
Fantastic app. Easily the best source for high quality journalism in a single place and the interface makes it a pleasure to read. Just one suggestion though - the search feature could be improved to allow easier access old articles from the publishers. More often than not, I am unable to find the articles I've read earlier on the app. Would be immensely helpful if that functionality could be added as well.
The app is good, but I don't think I'll subscribe. Partly for a really petty reason: at one point during the trial the app came up with a "one time offer to subscribe for a reduced price". I just wasn't in a position to grab my card and put my details in at the time. Now paying full price just feels... wrong. Also, the app never let me access NYT articles during the trial, which was annoying. That all said, I have about 30 news apps on my phone, and can see the appeal in this one. Worth trying.
It's an ok service. Keeps asking me to pay for a subscription. That's ok with me, but I already have a subscription to several papers that it hosts. Since paying for them in addition to paying for Inkl would be redundant, and I hate being prompted to pay for a subscription each time I open the app, I'm going to uninstall. I like the interface and functionality, though. Sometimes it took a while to load, but overall a nice looking app.
The app claims to have no advertising, but if you click any in-text links within a story you will be taken to another article which may in fact contain ads and click bait links. Not only does this defeat the purpose of paying for an ad-free news model, it creates an inconsistent user experience. The deep dive feature is a great idea, and the quality of articles is high.
Excellent app and service, but a few tweaks here and there would only enhance. May I suggest that some sort of dictionary be added similar to the way that the amazon kindle one works... Also, on some news articles there appear to be images that are missing. Sometimes the images (pictures) are needed for reference. Besides that... Great app, even better service and selection of news articles. Oh, could you add a feed from the financial Times?
Inkl isn't bad and I do appreciate having an app that includes multiple news sources for a more broader overview and to minimise media bias. I have found the app to be stable on my Galaxy Note 10+. Unfortunately, all of this doesn't matter when out of frustration I uninstall it because of the number of notifications received each day. The notifications are not relevant to my news interests, there are far too many of them and there is no setting in the menu I can see to disable them.
Beautiful interface, especially in the dark mode. I really like the Dive Deeper part at the end of an article so you can read about the same topic but from different sources. The Good News and the Inkl Picks are my favorite because I get to read about different stories I normally wouldn't have come across through my normal news channels and feeds. It is really quite good! 👍 👌
At the risk of sounding jaded, Inkl's value proposition for me is somewhat cynical math. Much of the world's media has been degraded in recent years by competition from social media. There are few news outlets that are worth their full subscription prices. But many of them have many good stories. If I can get a good selection of stories every day from all of them, I don't mind paying what I'd have to stump up for a full year's NYT digital subscription (or thereabouts, last I checked). Easy!
I'm reviewing the app specifically here rather than the service in general (I've been very happy with the currated content, lack of adverts etc and would reccomend). Changes to the app which would get this up to a 5 for me: * Support for landscape orientation. A news app is likely to be used like a magazine or newspaper. Tablet on a kickstand, cup of coffee, enjoy. * Offline mode for saved articles (commuting). * The homepage suffers from bad judder on scrolling - articles themselves are fine.
Update: It happened again. I'm done. Old: Been hit multie times now by having the app be unable to complete loading. Open the app and the 'loading splash screen' is endless, 5+ minutes sometimes until I get board and quit. Notifications still get pushed, but I can never read any of the articles. This is a 'permenant' issue in that it can be multipe times over multiple days I try to open the app and fail. Have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times now just for this.
Interesting approach but missing a lot of controls and features to make the subscription worthwhile.
I love seeing a little splash of refreshing good news first in the Inkl morning edition email. Today for instance, it gave me a little mood lift that lasted right through reading the other headlines and I ended feeling positive about the day instead of down about what a mess the world is. I can't seem to stop looking at my phone and the news first thing, and I do want to keep aware of current events, so I'm so grateful to have good news lead, and such diverse and excellent articles.
Absolutely perfect. It is perfectly crafted to allow quick browsing by scanning and reading without heavy visuals or videos. Too many sites are media heavy. We hate that. We want to read not watch! I love the per article membership. I plan to do that! Best out there!
I had been on the lookout for a news app without Ads which is the best feature . Inkl is by far one of the best apps I have come across. Simple to use interface and good collection of articles from various sources. This is the second time I have started using the app after having tried many other apps and I find a huge improvement in the app including more sources. I hope this improvement will continue.
inkl pulls highly respected news outlets and journals together in a perfect package of national and global news without the hype. It is also economical too, if you enjoy reading from a variety of sources like the Economist, New York Times, Guardian UK -- to name a few -- but are strapped for subscription cash. I appreciate that the articles presented have been considered for what I need to know in the long run, and doesn't clutter my morning with bits that won't matter before the day's end.
Good content if you are willing to pay the price, which is not too bad in my opinion. The subscription options are decent, fair and at par with it's competitors. Also, there is a lenghty catalogue of sources to choose from, which is great. Love the interface, easy to navigate and pleasant to use.
Anybody else find the scrolling up, down ,L & R a bit twitchie since the last update? I can no longer use it one handed. Otherwise I like it. No ads is the way to go. Yes, you pay.
This has become my go-to daily news app. Many great sources you won't find in other apps. These are paid sources so the app and service not free. These sources combined with no ads does it for me.
Should have read the ridiculous long "about" to see this is just a pay us instead of them thing. Only 7 day trial? Not worth the download. I regret downloading this, you'll only want this if you want to pay and pay them for what I looked over and found mediocre anyway. I'd pay someone else if I was gonna pay. 🤷♀️
I downloaded this app because to read paywall article, guess what this entire app is a paywall. When you have 7 days free trial, you still ask for premium membership for some articles within the trial period.
The team behind inkl have clearly put a lot of thought into providing the user with a broad, balanced and ethical selection of world news. I've tried a number of news apps, and this is by far the best experience I've had. The monthly subscription fee is a small price to pay for the assurance of quality journalism, thoughtful curation, and data transparency.
Good effort but it doesn't do it for me. Most of the news it shows me is not relevant to me. There's no option to specify my interests or a way to up vote or down vote stories for the app to learn my interests. And most importantly, it's a news app that doesn't have a date and time stamp on story lists!
