Leaf Spy Pro

The Leaf Spy Pro application allows anyone with a Nissan Leaf electric vehicle, Android device with Bluetooth and an ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapter the ability to monitor their battery and other vehicle information normally visible only to the dealer.
Due to a recent cost reduction (and feature reduction) many of the cheap ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapters from Asia no longer work with the Leaf and report themselves to be version 2.1. The only one currently recommended is the Bluetooth Konnwei KW902 which still supports all the needed ELM commands to communicate with the Leaf.

EDIT: Feature request: It would be nice to have a graph of the battery temperature over time. This would allow correlation with battery temperature and driving habits etc. Nice app, I now have a silent car no beeps or other noises...so nice! Wondering if it's possible to have doors unlock on both conditions park or ignition off. I don't always press park before turning the car off.

Big thank you to the developer who fixed my connection issue. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort to create the fix .... it's great to have all the dials/info working again !!

I have been using Leafspy pro since 2016 on a 24Kwh gen 1 leaf and also my 30Kwh techna 2015. This program is so useful and has never let me down, i wouldn't leave home without it. New features been added all the time and Tech support is first rate. Very happy customer.

The app gives useful information about the battery health etc and also has value in being able to clear DTC codes. I had a parking brake problem that I fixed myself by adjusting the cable but the ebrake would only operate when these codes were cleared. Now the brakes are working normally again with no error messages on the dashboard having cleared the codes with this app. This avoided an expensive visit to a Nissan dealer to fix a minor issue so it's well worth it.

I'm a new EV Driver of a 2015 Leaf so it's definitely a learning curve. Unfortunately my 65 year old brain oftentimes has trouble comprehending all apps.

Android 12, Pixel 6 Pro. In portrait split screen 50%, page4, the hundreds digit of GIDS is not displayed. At other splits it does. Occasionally display doesn't update after connect until page is changed.

I confirmed with the developer that most VSP settings can't be modified on 2018 Leafs and newer. That should be prominently displayed on this page as that is the only reason I purchased this and an OBD2 adapter. Refund requested.

Indispensable app for any Leaf owner. The data is highly useful, however the app could do with the input of a UI designer - it's currently not very intuitive for non-technical users, and requires frequently referring to the plaintext user guide, with much scrolling, to learn how to navigate and adjust its UI. Related, it could do with better split screen support too, so it can show vehicle status alongside, say, Google Maps. Right now it can do it, but renders badly with numbers jumping lines and elements getting cut off.

Love the app! Pretty please add the ability to lock the car when turning the ignition on. When waiting in the car I often cycle the ignition with the parking brake on to turn off the headlights. This results in unlocking the doors, but a new setting would make the locking/unlocking seamless in all situations! Alternatively, a setting to make "off" on the light stalk turn the lights completely off (without the rigamarole) would be even better :)

Allows me to lock the doors as soon as I move the car out of Park (or over a certain speed) and let's me permanently turn off the tinnitus-inducing drive sounds. Other tweaks are handy too. There are other things I'd like, but if Nissan don't make them available, there's little an app can do!

I can confirm that this app does work with a Galaxy S10 running Android 10, and a Konnwei KW902 OBD scanner. (2013 Gen 2 Leaf) UI isn't great, but all features seem to work well. Can be a little fiddly at time times to get it to pair, but turning Bluetooth off then on, closing and re opening the app and resetting the adapter seems to solve most issues.

Don't waste your money in either of the paid versions. I bought the recommended OBD2 device for the app but the device only connected twice to my phone. Tried deleting then reinstalling the app many times but nothing. Absolutely no support from the developer and it looks like the app hasn't been updated for 2 years now. Google say it's against their terms and conditions to refund the app but the developer doesn't reply. I repeat, don't waste your money, stick with the version.

great app gives excellent data on your leaf. would be good if you could make the wing mirrors auto fold closed and open when starting and switching off the car. it did that on a newer borrowed car when mine went in for a service. thanks for all your efforts!

Cannot format txt to read on screen, changing screen resolution and txt size does nothing. Using Samsung Galaxy Note 8. From what I can see error messages are returned for most screens but again almost impossible to make any sense of anything. I hope this can be fixed.

Not as good as it was. The new navigation is terrible. My BT vgate iCar 1 OBD dongle used to work perfectly, but now gives me an error. Service view is fiddly to navigate to/from. My Leaf won't charge and I can't read errors any more! This is not good at all

Plenty of information about the Leaf, but UI is terrible (it's not easy to find such horrible screens on any other android app). Good UI designer is obviously missing, especially when taking into account very high price for the app. On the other hand, csv logs contain a lot of useful information. Mentioning "missing", the developer did not respond to any questions on My Nissan Leaf forum from Nov 18th 2018 (on leave, ill or ...?). News: It seems that the developer is still alive.

Great app before update but now it saves the log file in an android/data/com.Turbo3leaf folder not accessible by the standard Android 11 file explorer. I had to download "cx file explorer" in order to access the android/data folders. Quite a pain.

Working fine on my Android phone (Android version 9, Moto G7 Play). Hardware is a LELink2 OBDII device. They paired right up, no hassle (I could not get LeafSpy LIte to find the hardware however, but upgrading to Pro worked immediately). Car is a LEAF 2017, model "S".

The latest update has fixed recent lost pages. I'm loving the new dashboard feature.

Ser. K. Nov 18, 2019

Works great even with Android 9, despite not being updated. I can see all of the information and car settings. The interface could use some work though.

Really useful app to get detailed battery and other info. Handy to be able to change some settings yourself that you would otherwise have to pay someone for (eg changing the dash language).
